@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 11:25 AM)

Also I still have to figure out how to set up our e-mail accounts on the new host.

@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 08:19 AM)

As soon as I figure out how to restore it. Sorry, I know I said it'd be done by now, but I didn't expect to have to put up with this DNS crap and other issues that popped up.

@  Uncle Ben : (24 July 2015 - 07:56 AM)

So when's the black theme coming back??

@  Uncle Ben : (24 July 2015 - 07:56 AM)

"Should"

@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 07:27 AM)

That DNS took longer to propagate properly than I thought it would. *Now* we should be back for good, though.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 08:48 PM)

Or it might be because Bluehost *finally* got around to that server wipe (one week after we'd asked for it) and that wiped out our DNS settings. I'm not sure which and I don't really care. In any case, we've severed our last ties with Bluehost, so this will not happen again.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 08:08 PM)

Looks like Bluehost yanked our DNS since our hosting account expired. That's why the site went down a while ago. But as you can see, it's fixed now.

@  Misk : (23 July 2015 - 04:55 PM)

No, they do not.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 04:27 AM)

The goggles do nothing?

@  Misk : (22 July 2015 - 05:50 PM)

My eyes.

@  furrykef : (22 July 2015 - 12:24 PM)

Looks like forum uploads might have been broken since last night. That should be fixed now too.

@  furrykef : (22 July 2015 - 01:33 AM)

Heh, whoops! Server went down for a few mins when I borked the config. Looks like it's back up now.

@  Uncle Ben : (21 July 2015 - 09:09 PM)

It looked like a napkin

@  ILOVEVHS : (21 July 2015 - 09:04 PM)

Fan-fuckin-tastic.

@  furrykef : (21 July 2015 - 08:25 PM)

As for the beaver picture while the forum was down, I think Tim drew it. On a napkin.

@  furrykef : (21 July 2015 - 08:24 PM)

No kiddin' about that "Finally!", Shadow. I am *so mad* at Bluehost for never responding to our support ticket. I submitted it early Friday morning and they *still* haven't answered it!

@  Uncle Ben : (21 July 2015 - 06:37 PM)

Maybe he did that himself

@  Shadow : (21 July 2015 - 05:25 PM)

Say, who made the cute picture of Beaver Chief?

@  Shadow : (21 July 2015 - 05:24 PM)

Finally!

@  RedMenace : (21 July 2015 - 05:02 PM)

Woooo! The site's back up! Three cheers for Kef!

Topics I've Started

Huh, Apparently I Was Gone...

14 July 2010 - 02:26 PM

I kinda feel like I've not been away, I've been trapped in some weird vortex of time without any internet where I lost all concept of time.

Went to Aberystwyth in Wales for a couple days to check out the uni and go get drunk. Was odd when the train entered Wales, the view from the window was literally: field... big field... field with sheep... another field with sheep... small field... big field with sheep... small field with sheep... field... field.... old church... field with sheep... big field with sheep... and so on.

Then soon as I got back home I went off to film a local music festival who commissioned a group of us to make a documentary for promotional purposes. REALLY long and tough work, but all worth it and it was an amazing experience.

So yeah, hi again! biggrin.gif

Controversial Images - Reservoir Dogs

26 May 2010 - 09:59 AM

On my college course at the moment we're looking at Controversial Images and how audiences react to them. Basically we've been given free reign to choose any piece of controversial media (advertising campaigns, computer games, etc) and we've got to test it out on an audience via focus groups, questionnaires, etc and write up our findings.

I've chosen the famous ear cutting scene from Reservoir Dogs set to "Stuck in the Middle with You" by Stealers Wheel, where psychopathic criminal "Mr. Blonde" torments a cop he's kidnapped after a botched jewelry heist.

Now, I don't usually come to the internet to conduct audience research (mostly because I think it seems cheeky tongue.gif) but I figured I might get some interesting and intelligent responses here, if any of you have 10-15 minutes spare and are feeling super nice, that is. ^^

If you are; watch the scene (linky below) and respond with any thoughts you have about it; there are set points to consider, but it's not a questionnaire so write whatever it makes you feel. Maybe it could even spark up an interesting debate for the forum and lead to a long running feature; personally I find this sorta thing really interesting, but maybe that's just me. tongue.gif

Any feedback you can give will be very much appreciated. Thank you! smile.gif

Reservoir Dogs - Ear Cutting Scene (I'm obliged to warn that if you're not comfortable with watching this type of imagery please please please don't click!)

Points to consider:

Your immediate thoughts on watching the scene.

What affect does the music have on you?

Do you find the music distracting, does it make the scene easier or harder to watch and why?

Is the scene more powerful because it doesn't actually show the act of the mutilation?

What affect does the silence have on you when he walks back outside halfway through the scene?

'Tis the SatAM Season #1 RESULTS!!

22 December 2009 - 05:57 PM

'Tis The SatAM Season #1, Official FUS Contest Winner!

So, with Christmas only a few days away, it's about time we announced the winner to the first FUS seasonally-themed fanction competition! The judging panel has taken a blow with John absent from the internet (we still haven't ruled out the possibility one of you took him out to increase your chances in this contest) so it's only been myself and Chief that have picked the winner, though we're confident John would agree. tongue.gif

Disappointingly we only had four entries, which is better than the two it originally looked like we'd get, and because of the lack of entries we haven't chosen a runner-up. So without further ado…

… the winner of the first official FUS Seasonal SatAM Fanfiction Competetion is:

Gojira007 and his adaption of the Christmas Special 'Twas the Night Before Christmas'

And you win the totally awesome prize of a game of your choice, which John will sort out with you upon his return, provided you're not the one who took him out of course.

Although it was a little too long, Chief and I chose Gojira's entry because we felt it integrated the SatAM cast into the story in the best way whilst keeping them in character and sticking close enough to the original story without copying it word for word. And of course it felt nice and Christmassy too and all that jazz!

An honorable mention goes out to the other entrants Kef, Massagraf, and The_Man, who also gave us some nice Christmassy fics to read and get us into the holiday spirit with too!

All the fics are available to download and read at the bottom of this post. (Once Chief uploads them)

So yeah, thanks for entering guys, great work from you all and congrats Gojira!

Wuh, I was Gone?

10 December 2009 - 10:00 AM

Yeah, apparently so. ohmy.gif

Been in the process of converting my home to a wireless network, partly enforced by the fact my previous modem was a POS. To make things difficult I couldn't remember the password I have with my ISP, so changed it before placing an order which I was gonna do online because I have a huge pet hate for call centres. Eventually reset the password and when I went into my modem to put in the new details the HTML interface was well and truly buggered beyond any recognition and I couldn't input my changed details.

Okay, so I gotta do what I didn't want to in the first place and call in the order. Fair enough, not great being on hold for 20 minutes but at least the new package and equipment will get ordered. Told it would take 3-5 working days and after about two weeks nothing arrived. So I call up and, guess fucking what, they had no record of the order! AUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGHHHHHHH! 1132.png.gif

Somehow the daft cow on the other end of the phone went through the entire order with me, I even asked specifically how long the equipment would take to arrive, and she still somehow managed not to click 'add to basket' and 'confirm order' or whatever equivalent they have. Only plus side is I'm getting a goodwill gesture of Ł20 to make up for it, not a bad profit for two and a half weeks without the net, but still a right pain in the arse. tongue.gif

So yeah, long story short, I R back.
