@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 11:25 AM)

Also I still have to figure out how to set up our e-mail accounts on the new host.

@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 08:19 AM)

As soon as I figure out how to restore it. Sorry, I know I said it'd be done by now, but I didn't expect to have to put up with this DNS crap and other issues that popped up.

@  Uncle Ben : (24 July 2015 - 07:56 AM)

So when's the black theme coming back??

@  Uncle Ben : (24 July 2015 - 07:56 AM)

"Should"

@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 07:27 AM)

That DNS took longer to propagate properly than I thought it would. *Now* we should be back for good, though.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 08:48 PM)

Or it might be because Bluehost *finally* got around to that server wipe (one week after we'd asked for it) and that wiped out our DNS settings. I'm not sure which and I don't really care. In any case, we've severed our last ties with Bluehost, so this will not happen again.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 08:08 PM)

Looks like Bluehost yanked our DNS since our hosting account expired. That's why the site went down a while ago. But as you can see, it's fixed now.

@  Misk : (23 July 2015 - 04:55 PM)

No, they do not.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 04:27 AM)

The goggles do nothing?

@  Misk : (22 July 2015 - 05:50 PM)

My eyes.

@  furrykef : (22 July 2015 - 12:24 PM)

Looks like forum uploads might have been broken since last night. That should be fixed now too.

@  furrykef : (22 July 2015 - 01:33 AM)

Heh, whoops! Server went down for a few mins when I borked the config. Looks like it's back up now.

@  Uncle Ben : (21 July 2015 - 09:09 PM)

It looked like a napkin

@  ILOVEVHS : (21 July 2015 - 09:04 PM)

Fan-fuckin-tastic.

@  furrykef : (21 July 2015 - 08:25 PM)

As for the beaver picture while the forum was down, I think Tim drew it. On a napkin.

@  furrykef : (21 July 2015 - 08:24 PM)

No kiddin' about that "Finally!", Shadow. I am *so mad* at Bluehost for never responding to our support ticket. I submitted it early Friday morning and they *still* haven't answered it!

@  Uncle Ben : (21 July 2015 - 06:37 PM)

Maybe he did that himself

@  Shadow : (21 July 2015 - 05:25 PM)

Say, who made the cute picture of Beaver Chief?

@  Shadow : (21 July 2015 - 05:24 PM)

Finally!

@  RedMenace : (21 July 2015 - 05:02 PM)

Woooo! The site's back up! Three cheers for Kef!

Have they made any mention on whether or not this producer prick deserved it? Some people need a good clip around the ears every now and then.

Cheers guys. :)

Paul: Well, unfortunately for me my wife dreams about visiting Canada (and loves ice hockey for some bloody damn reason!). So hopefully one day not too far in the distant future we can finally meet up, share some beers and beat the shit out of each other once and for all.

It's been, what, over ten years in the making? Stuff me sideways.

I got bloody married!

It has been what seems like a very long time since I've posted anything of relevance here at FUS. I figured what a perfect opportunity it is to share this news with you all - even though there are that many new people here I barely recognise the place... And then there's Kef.

Fuck you, Kef.

Anyway! I would like to introduce to you all... my wife. :) We were married on the 29th day of November, 2014.

(Hell, it HAS been a long time. I could barely remember how to attach a photo to this bastard.)

Can see the whole thing right here on a blog my photographer set up http://theartofzowie...a-resort-moama/

Let it be said... weddings are fucking expensive. REALLY expensive. And I would do it all over again if it meant being married to this amazing and brilliant woman for the rest of my life.

And if you're thinking "why should we care?" Look, we mentioned that Sea3on was in trouble so if you help us we would be far more inclined to return the favor.

Prime has and always will be as blunt as a bag full of hammers. And I just so happen to share his view: don't like the comic? Don't bloody worry about.

By all means though, talk, discuss, digest, call for help, or whatever-you-want. I'm sure many people here would agree with you and would want to join in. But you can drop the 'scratch my back and we'll maybe be inclined to scratch yours' vibe. We are not in the business of doing favours for financial assistance. Don't ever imply that crap again, thank you very much.

For the record, Sea3on is not in trouble - we have talented professionals doing their thing. I am just unable to pay them like I used to. FUS is also not in trouble - we just need to cut the server costs down a tad. FUS is not on the verge of disappearing. I will never let that happen.

A quick history lesson:
I also lost my ADMIN/mod status on FUS at around the same time as Prime for exactly the same reasons. Rocky was an idiot driving this place into the gutter. We turned that around though. ;)

#167399 A Short Hello, A Big Thank You, And A Long-Ish Goodbye

Posted by John Roberts on 18 April 2013 - 07:35 PM

(Yeah, I am totally this full of myself to post in the news section. Come at me, mods!)

Really warms my heart to see how far Sea3on has expanded from those few years ago when Paul and I took over Fus. Back then we (the bloody Canadian and I) wanted to finally give Fus and Sea3on that little push it needed to get out from the shadows and the mess we found it in. We both believed it could go far. It had the strong creative talent behind it, dedicated to pushing it forward. We just needed other people to believe in it. To notice it.

And holy hell have people noticed it. The Website has never looked better; hits have been on a steady increase for years now; we helped produce a fairly successful fan movie; we have a news section going strong with numerous interesting updates; and Sea3on. Well, shit. Its about to turn into a friggen animation series for Christ Sake!

A lot of time, money and hard work from many hard working bastards over the years have made this all become a reality for Fus. I cannot thank everyone enough (partly because I can't remember everyone's name, and mostly because we can't have Paul's already swollen head grow much larger), but from all of those in our wonderful staff, thank you.

And to our equally wonderful and supportive members (except for Kef ), from the bottom of my heart, thank you. Thank you for sticking with us and making this once little fansite a massive community to be reckoned with.

Unfortunately I have not been as involved or as hands on as I would like to be due to work commitments, and sadly that is not about change because very shortly I will be deploying to Afghanistan for a second and far longer time. Paul keeps me up to date on the important things going on in the world of Fus, even the things I don't want to know about (the filthy mongrel), however I just wanted to take the time to drop by and pass on my best wishes and goodbyes personally. I'll always be in the background helping and supporting when I can, and if that means continuing my current role covering all the server costs and telling Paul he's gay on a monthly basis, then so be it!

Keep it real guys. See you all (if I haven't been blown up) sometime in the new year.

Speak for yourself, champ. Season 1 Antoine was a lot of fun. Season 2... not so much.

Same here. I've heard about too many lives and families that's been destroyed due to drinking problems...and yeah, that doesn't happen to everyone, but I wouldn't even dare step into that territory. No alcoholic drinks for me.

Alcohole doesn't destroy families; stupid, weak people do that all on their own. My father was a full time alcoholic and mum eventually divorced him. Beer fueled his problems but it didn't cause them.

Moral of this story? Drink and be hearty! But only if you're not one I those mental whack jobs with 'issues'. :)

Speaking of which I am enjoying my last few cold beers before flying back to Afghan tomorrow arvo. If I don't pop in again before I go then I shall say my bye-byes here and now.

Bye-byes!

#78000 Satam Reboot

Posted by John Roberts on 25 January 2012 - 07:34 PM

:o Alright, I don't quite remember the things Kuta did that was so damaging, but couldn't we just give him a little chance like we did with MA-X? Or can I at least get a quick reminder of why he's to be avoided at all costs?

Oh, well, and this is as far as the discussion will go (please) - it's all water-under-the-bridge-hakuna-matata as far as I am concerned with Rich. I'm just very proud of where FUS has traveled in the short time myself and Paul have owner her, and the last thing I want to do now is let it slide back to the not-so good times with old faces that always (ALWAYS) cause, directly and or indirectly, her to slide. I can see how it seems a tad unfair, Inhibitor, but I'm only getting rid of a possible problem before it possibly appears. I appreciate you speaking out like you did; I'm always happy to answer comments and concerns from out lil' community. :)

As for Max? I was barely involved with that bit of the past so it can't be my call (or vote, or whatever) one way or the other.

#77985 Satam Reboot

Posted by John Roberts on 25 January 2012 - 07:17 PM

WOAH, this place has drastically changed since I was here. Such a commendable job on the redesign. Its refreshing to see a new coat of paint on a site that hasnt been updated in half a decade. Awesome work!

Now, you're probably all wondering what compelled me to comb through the outskirts of FUS after all this time. For one, passive curiosity since its been well over a year when I last visited this place. Two, I noticed that my name has been brought up a couple times on here from a random google search. Its how discovered how this place was still active cause on occasion, I will search my name to see if anyone has finally dropped the whole “Green Eye” controversy I stired up 2 years ago. Yeah, hard to believe its been that long, but people still tend dwell on the subject even though its irrelevant.

So Matt, great to see that youre still interested in Sonic and I can understand why youre reluctant to even continue. If you still plan on pursuing a pitch or anything else to get SatAM off the ground again, kudos to you dude. While I still hold a high appreciation for SatAM, the passion for it has gradually diminished ever since I completed that 1 minute segment of my fan film. Sure, it was still debased and harshly criticized, but to me, it was closure and enabled me to finally move on. Its why I havent been frequent in the fan base in the past year. Not only that, the Archie Comics have trekked on territory that felt offensive. Not cause of the whole Mecha Sally story arc, but how convoluted the writing has become. It came to the point where I just stopped caring about Sonic in general and sold all my merchandise and collectables. Never in my life did I think Id ever sell my rare and elusive Sally plushie, but I honestly think it was for the best. When an obsession consumes you to the point where it clouds your judgement, thats when you need to acknowledge that you have a problem and Im glad I did a couples months shy of turning 30.

Reflecting on my past antics and drama I instigated over the years, made me realize how much of a bitter, delusional fanboy I was degenerating into. The fact that I was constantly hunting for praise was a sign of how insecure I was at the time. So last year, I made a bold decision and completely disconnected myself from Sonic and fanbases in general. By that, I mean that I deterred my communication and interaction with other fans in order to protect myself and become more mentally stable.

This sorda leads into the whole Brony craze I was inadvertently coaxed into. it was strange how my departure from Sonic opened up a new world for me to explore and I became so infatuated with this new My Little Pony reboot. The animation, the sight gags, clever writing, well developed characters. This became the NEW SatAM for me. For once in over a decade, I actually found myself waking up early on saturdays anxiously awaiting for a new episode to air. Now while I am heavily invested in the show, youll notice that I have NEVER posted on any Pony related forum, site or chat room. I have remained independent from the online community in fear that I might repeat the same mistakes I did with the Sonic fanbase. The only time Ive actually interacted with Bronies, was during meet ups I attended. Let me tell you, these people are probably the most endearing and genuine people Ive ever had the pleasure of hanging out with. The message of love and tolerance extends on deeper levels as they support and care about their friends. Its an environment that I truly needed and it really helped my self-steem.

As for my employment? I went back to my true passion. Designing promotions and advertisements for local indie bands while still actively seeking full time work. Like someone mentioned, the economy is shit so you gotta take whats available.

Anyway guys, I just wanted to shed some light on a few things and bring everyone up to speed on how my life has been.
FYI, I really enjoyed every aspect of Sonic Generations. Sega really is getting back on track again.

Yeah... thanks for stopping by with a life update, but we aren't playing this game anymore with you on FUS, not again. Bye bye.

#51295 Stereotyping In Society

Posted by John Roberts on 20 June 2011 - 06:38 PM

I have never understood the concept of compensating or repaying what was taken away from natives. In Australia we have the Aborigines whose home and land our ancestors came and claimed for themselves. I'm kind of sorry for how it all happened, what with all the killing and stuff, but I can never be sorry for taking their land. I probably would not exist today if that land was not taken, so I find it very hard to be sorry for that. A lot of people are born with the short end of the stick, but it seems if you happen to be a native of your country you'll get special treatment for it; where as the rest of us have to fight tooth and nail for similar compensations. I want a house? Well then, I better get a job and earn in and pay all the land taxes. But if I was black I could get a free house, no taxes, a pension, and no intensive whatsoever to get a job. As Paul said, that divide between cultures will never disappear as long as the 'them and us' mentality keeps on happening from the Government throwing money at this 'problem'.

Education isn't free. "Education" may be, but it isn't anywhere near the standard of education that's expected by actual schools. I spend 1.5 years at Haskell Indian Nations University. It's a total joke. They don't have enough funding to get or keep teachers for any but the basic classes, and generally don't even have enough books for the classes they do have.

Why couldn't you go to a, for a lack of better word, normal school then? Why does it have to be a special Indian school?

We have our own morons doing it here too. One of them holds an office.

Never fear! Censorship is about to change with the recent news of R rating video games almost getting the green light in Australia. Wanna know the catch though? They're talking about abolishing the MA15 rating. So, games will go from G, PG to R18.

..uhhh?

#49943 Sally Is Dead..................

Posted by John Roberts on 19 May 2011 - 08:57 PM

to kill off Sally would a great stab in the back to all Sonic Satam fans who care about this character

Or perhaps it is the fact that Sally is quite well loved by many fans that killing her would have a bigger impact on the story than, say, killing some random background character nobody cares about? I don't want Sally to die either, but that is the point in caring about characters. You care that they fight, they survive, they love, they live and they die. Telling a story and making it mean something is what it's all about. I think the 'stab in the back' is a bit over dramatic here. I don't see this as SatAm fans being 'betrayed', or some such.

If Sally's death resulted in an emotional and compelling story and lots of juicy character development ensued, I say yay. The story is the Master, and the characters are It's bitches. Not even the main characters should be exempt from that rule, regardless of their SatAM or SEGA heritage.

However, if Sally's death makes a compelling story, and it is followed by a cheap universe reset button (this 'Genesis' thing I keep hearing about), then what is the point in telling the story in the first place? It's just cheap.

If Ian can indeed create a deep, powerful story - something Archie has had very (very) little of - and he accomplishes this by killing such a beloved character, then I gotta say 'bravo'. You'll never see such a story developed with Amy's character at the front of it, or one of the many other untouchable SEGA drones (SEGA would never let that happen, not their characters). Such a story delivered by one of our SatAM characters is a huge testimony to our favourite Sonic verse.
