@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 11:25 AM)

Also I still have to figure out how to set up our e-mail accounts on the new host.

@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 08:19 AM)

As soon as I figure out how to restore it. Sorry, I know I said it'd be done by now, but I didn't expect to have to put up with this DNS crap and other issues that popped up.

@  Uncle Ben : (24 July 2015 - 07:56 AM)

So when's the black theme coming back??

@  Uncle Ben : (24 July 2015 - 07:56 AM)

"Should"

@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 07:27 AM)

That DNS took longer to propagate properly than I thought it would. *Now* we should be back for good, though.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 08:48 PM)

Or it might be because Bluehost *finally* got around to that server wipe (one week after we'd asked for it) and that wiped out our DNS settings. I'm not sure which and I don't really care. In any case, we've severed our last ties with Bluehost, so this will not happen again.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 08:08 PM)

Looks like Bluehost yanked our DNS since our hosting account expired. That's why the site went down a while ago. But as you can see, it's fixed now.

@  Misk : (23 July 2015 - 04:55 PM)

No, they do not.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 04:27 AM)

The goggles do nothing?

@  Misk : (22 July 2015 - 05:50 PM)

My eyes.

@  furrykef : (22 July 2015 - 12:24 PM)

Looks like forum uploads might have been broken since last night. That should be fixed now too.

@  furrykef : (22 July 2015 - 01:33 AM)

Heh, whoops! Server went down for a few mins when I borked the config. Looks like it's back up now.

@  Uncle Ben : (21 July 2015 - 09:09 PM)

It looked like a napkin

@  ILOVEVHS : (21 July 2015 - 09:04 PM)

Fan-fuckin-tastic.

@  furrykef : (21 July 2015 - 08:25 PM)

As for the beaver picture while the forum was down, I think Tim drew it. On a napkin.

@  furrykef : (21 July 2015 - 08:24 PM)

No kiddin' about that "Finally!", Shadow. I am *so mad* at Bluehost for never responding to our support ticket. I submitted it early Friday morning and they *still* haven't answered it!

@  Uncle Ben : (21 July 2015 - 06:37 PM)

Maybe he did that himself

@  Shadow : (21 July 2015 - 05:25 PM)

Say, who made the cute picture of Beaver Chief?

@  Shadow : (21 July 2015 - 05:24 PM)

Finally!

@  RedMenace : (21 July 2015 - 05:02 PM)

Woooo! The site's back up! Three cheers for Kef!

I'm surprised you like the table so much, Shadow. It doesn't have any boobs on it.

#200156 Sonic Writers Topic

when Sally let's her emotions/feelings take charge over the "greater good" fans don't like it (example: Infamous Slap scene).

The thing with the slap scene, IMO, isn't that Sally lost control over her emotions, or even that she slapped Sonic. It's that if I wanted to write a scene where Sally slapped Sonic, I could have written it a thousand times better, and so could numerous other people. It has to be done in a way that makes Sally a sympathetic character, and it wasn't.

IMO, even if it did happen, it'd be too little, too late. I don't want to play a Segafied version of SatAM, and I imagine quite a lot of other people, SatAM fans and non-fans alike, don't either.

The ship has already sailed. The only way we're ever going to see a true SatAM game, or likely any SatAM game, is if some SatAM fanatic buys the rights. Which, well, isn't gonna happen.

It's sad, really, because I think I have the perfect design for such a game, and it's very different from any existing Sonic game while retaining the essential spirit of both the show and Sonic in general. But I'm never going to have permission to make it, and it's too large and risky a project to do as a fangame.

Make a shitty game and people won't buy it. I honestly wonder why Sega hasn't learned this lesson a decade ago.

We're talking about multi-person PMs, right?

Turns out IP.Board has the feature built in. I turned it on now. Currently the maximum number of people per PM conversation is 5. Let me know if that's not enough.

#198982 Sonic 4 Is Offically Dead

and Episode 2, which came out way later than it probably should have given how short Ep. 1 was, fared even poorer.

Episode 1 was an abomination unto mankind. The visuals offended the eyes, the physics were way off, the level design was bullshit, the music was boring, and the game was too short (not that I'd want to expose myself to even more of that torture). It felt like a Sonic knockoff, not a real Sonic game.

By Episode 2 they got it right except for the music and the length, which I can forgive. (Still a damn shame, though, since the original Sonic games had the best music on the Genesis.) If it fared poorly commercially, it's because people probably assumed it was like episode 1. The well was already poisoned. I nearly didn't give it a chance myself, but I don't regret playing it.

That said, I'm not particularly sad not to see an Episode 3. I'll grant that Episode 2 was still a shadow of the greatness of the Genesis games, and when you can't meet, let alone beat, what you did 20 years ago, that's sad.

You can listen to the music and sound clips here. (There's other interesting stuff on that page, but only the music and sound sections are mine.)

#195911 Sonic Epoch: A Look-Back, The Future, Etc.

Posted by furrykef on 26 July 2014 - 07:07 PM

I'm pretty much in the same camp as RedAuthar, to be honest. (I was gonna stay out of this, but hey, if Red can say his piece...)

So long as we're being honest, I think SatAM and a platform game are not a good match. Yes, Sonic got its start as a platform game series, but if I were to take SatAM and make a game out of it, a platformer is about the last thing I'd do. I actually have two SatAM fangames of my own that I want to make (I doubt I'll actually make either one since they're too big), and one of them is a visual novel sort of thing and the other is an online co-op first- or third-person adventure thing like Left4Dead or Payday. (It's actually a bit eerie how closely L4D and Payday match my concept, since I'd done most of my design before ever playing either.) I really, really wish I could work on this second game of mine, because what I'm visualizing is awesome, but I'm worried that Sega will think it's awesome too and slap it with a cease & desist.

Anyway. The point is, I think there are plenty of other interesting possibilities that better fit the setting. If you've got your heart set on a platformer or something, well, I'm not gonna try to stop you. I just don't want you to be locked into thinking that a Sonic game has to be a certain way.

#195879 The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection, Free (Includes All The Sims 2 Content Ever)

Posted by furrykef on 24 July 2014 - 06:41 PM

This code's valid only until the morning (not afternoon or evening!) of July 31st, so if you're gonna get it, get it now.

Download Origin if you don't have it already. Once you've logged in, go to "Origin->Redeem Code..." and type in "I-LOVE-THE-SIMS" (sans quotes). This will get you The Sims 2 and everything Maxis/EA ever released for it. Everything!

Now, you're supposed to only use this code if you already own The Sims 2 -- something the gaming press has been consistently ignoring, sadly -- but EA's not bothering to ask whether you actually own the game or not, so...
