@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 11:25 AM)

Also I still have to figure out how to set up our e-mail accounts on the new host.

@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 08:19 AM)

As soon as I figure out how to restore it. Sorry, I know I said it'd be done by now, but I didn't expect to have to put up with this DNS crap and other issues that popped up.

@  Uncle Ben : (24 July 2015 - 07:56 AM)

So when's the black theme coming back??

@  Uncle Ben : (24 July 2015 - 07:56 AM)

"Should"

@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 07:27 AM)

That DNS took longer to propagate properly than I thought it would. *Now* we should be back for good, though.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 08:48 PM)

Or it might be because Bluehost *finally* got around to that server wipe (one week after we'd asked for it) and that wiped out our DNS settings. I'm not sure which and I don't really care. In any case, we've severed our last ties with Bluehost, so this will not happen again.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 08:08 PM)

Looks like Bluehost yanked our DNS since our hosting account expired. That's why the site went down a while ago. But as you can see, it's fixed now.

@  Misk : (23 July 2015 - 04:55 PM)

No, they do not.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 04:27 AM)

The goggles do nothing?

@  Misk : (22 July 2015 - 05:50 PM)

My eyes.

@  furrykef : (22 July 2015 - 12:24 PM)

Looks like forum uploads might have been broken since last night. That should be fixed now too.

@  furrykef : (22 July 2015 - 01:33 AM)

Heh, whoops! Server went down for a few mins when I borked the config. Looks like it's back up now.

@  Uncle Ben : (21 July 2015 - 09:09 PM)

It looked like a napkin

@  ILOVEVHS : (21 July 2015 - 09:04 PM)

Fan-fuckin-tastic.

@  furrykef : (21 July 2015 - 08:25 PM)

As for the beaver picture while the forum was down, I think Tim drew it. On a napkin.

@  furrykef : (21 July 2015 - 08:24 PM)

No kiddin' about that "Finally!", Shadow. I am *so mad* at Bluehost for never responding to our support ticket. I submitted it early Friday morning and they *still* haven't answered it!

@  Uncle Ben : (21 July 2015 - 06:37 PM)

Maybe he did that himself

@  Shadow : (21 July 2015 - 05:25 PM)

Say, who made the cute picture of Beaver Chief?

@  Shadow : (21 July 2015 - 05:24 PM)

Finally!

@  RedMenace : (21 July 2015 - 05:02 PM)

Woooo! The site's back up! Three cheers for Kef!

#197294 The Fight Against Isis

Posted by brmsort on 18 October 2014 - 10:40 PM

I suspect, Neon, that is it both. They seem to be well armed and coordinated (and probably connected to many other such groups in those regions), but Islam is also a merits-based religion. And if you can convince people that believe in such a thing already that physical conquest and subjugation is meritorious, you can get a whole lot of people, especially the impoverished, to rally around your cause. It also doesn't hurt if you can blame some other group for the impoverishing of the region, even if it is completely bunk.

Of course, as a Christian, I also believe that these people, though willing to be such monsters themselves, are being used and deceived by other "powers" to commit these atrocities. So the fight is on two fronts. They need to be fought with all available force to stop their madness; they need to be converted in their souls and minds toward a better way, a truth. They are on the cusp of truth: they just worship the wrong prophet (I know they claim not to worship any man). One prophet was a conqueror, an executioner of his enemies; the other allowed others to falsely accuse Him and kill Him. One sought revenge; the Other sought restoration. Who we worship, who we adore, or who we want to be LIKE, does make a difference. We westerners like to think that religion and principles are just personal choices and beliefs that don't matter outside the walls of our places of worship, but such is not the case.

Fred Phelps (the 'founder' of WBC) is on the verge of death.

I dont know if we should be rejoicing or not... (We should)

As one who inadequately bears the name of Christ in this world, I will be glad that a blaspheming charlatan who brings unnecessary rebuke and shame to the name of my Savior has been removed from this world. I do not take pleasure in knowing what awaits the poor man on the other side of eternity, but I will take pleasure in seeing his sacrilege come to an end.

Fred Phelps (the 'founder' of WBC) is on the verge of death.

I dont know if we should be rejoicing or not... (We should)

We should form a protest for his funeral.  What's good for the goose...

A certainly understandable reaction, and a bit poetic, but it would be just as wrong-headed to do to him as he has done to others. There are certainly those who love him, and the funeral is their time to say goodbye. Repay not evil for evil; expose his works of darkness, do not participate in them, and leave the recompense to the Judge whose name Mr. Phelps has sullied.

I must have seen the commercial, but it must not have rubbed me the wrong way enough for me to care about. The biggest beef I have against it, though it is more so against the rampant multiculturalism in this country, is that having numerous groups of people who segregate themselves in this country and maintain a language barrier inevitably leads to division. If the only thing keeping America together is the power of the Federal government and imaginary lines on a map, then our society is living on borrowed time.

#182395 The Shutdown

Posted by brmsort on 07 October 2013 - 03:05 PM

The shutdown doesn't bother me, except that it is not really a shutdown. They are still spending money like drunken sailors, they are still expected to raise our debt limit, and Obama's administration is throwing a hissy fit by unnecessarily -- or spitefully, depending on your perspective -- closing off portions of the country.

So the only part of the shutdown that disappoints me is that the Federal government is not shutdown enough.

Season 1 is a fan's nightmare when trying to reconcile the canon. I chalk it up to more writers and the lack of an arc.

Okay, now on to episode #2: Sonic Boom of my journey into some nagging questions about season 1.

Now, this might be the second episode in correct order, however for me it was the pilot not only because it was the first one I saw, but it started what would end up being SatAM. If you watch Sonic Boom closely there is a great deal revealed about Mobius and the cast, which also leads to problems with continuity in later episodes.

Question 1: During the escape Cat lures the 'bots away from the fleeing Sally and Antoine. Why didn't Sally notice that Cat was gone, and when her and Ant stopped at the at the regroup area they seem to not care about their missing comrade. Not only that, but when Sonic brings it to their attention they still don't seem to show any concern. Why is this? Which leads into question 2:

Question 2: When Sonic proclaims that he is intending on rescuing Cat both Sally and Antoine still aren't worried for his welfare and not only that Sally says that she intends on going into the swamp to look for her father instead. Does this show her as a bad leader with tunnel vision? Wouldn't it make more sense to first save Cat and then go looking for The King with a proper expedition? I mean, he's been wherever he is for ten years and waiting a day or so wouldn't change anything.

I never got the impression that Sally was unconcerned about Cat. Also, no one knew what happened; Sonic just assumed (later we know it was correct) that bots got him. Therefore, with the hero on the job, there was no reason she with Antoine could not move on to searching for her long lost father.

Question #3: After being taken before Dr. Robotnik Cat is threatened by Robotnik saying that he has "amazing machines" that can "do" things... What was he referring to? Was he intending on taking the information via some sort of robotization like process or is does he mean good ol' fashioned torture?

I concur with old fashioned enhanced interrogation techniques.

Question #4: When Sonic finds Cat in the cell Cat informs Sonic that Robotnik's surveillance has picked up Sally. How did Cat find this information? Is it standard procedure for Robotnik to inform captives of up-to-date intelligence?

I suspect during interrogation the report came to Robotnik, so Cat overheard it. Also, Cat seems pretty wiped when talking to Sonic in the cell. I think this is further proof of torture.

Question #5: Cat tells Sonic to not worry about him and help Sally. Why didn't Sonic at least break open Cat's cell? In the previous scene we saw Sonic spin-dashing through doors; it wouldn't take but a second to give Cat a fighting chance to get out.

In other episodes, Sonic is not able to spin through locked cell doors. It is one thing to pry open an elevator door, and another to break through hardened iron bars.

Question #6: Why did Sally wait until she had been slogging along for what appears to be a great deal of time before asking NICHOLE about any structures in the Dark Swamp and only ask after Antoine of all people asks where they are going?

Everyone has a "DUH" moment, even our Princess.

Question #7: Now, I could go on and on about how Sonic Boom and Blast to the Past contradict each other. Just to make it simple, how would you explain away the fact that The King left this trail of messages for Sally and parts of his cape behind when Robotnik overthrew him in a surprise blitzkrieg and made The King do "The Time Warp" in The Void? (I couldn't pass up the Rocky Horror reference seeing as Tim Curry being in both casts!) Again, I have my own personal theory that I will wait to tell.

Beyond a simple timeline change, the King could have, with some help from Naugus, left a trail of bread crumbs from the Void. Naugus was able to drop the Mondarran forgery outside the Void, so maybe the King could transmit information and leave a bit of his cloak behind in a remote area far from Robotnik to help his daughter.

Question #8: Was Ironlock really built in 1543 AD? Or was it by another calendar? Also it was abandoned 100 years ago, does this mean that Mobians have been using a structure that exists in our time?! And who or what was it that was being held in that prison a century prior?

Who says that the year 1543 is in reference to our current calendar? Whether or not you ascribe to the notion that Mobius is post-Apocalyptic Earth, the 1543 could be based on an entirely different calendar. In fact, if Mobius is a future Earth, it is probable that the base year is the the one when Mobius was "created."

Just my two cents.

Off topic, I always wonder why no one ever pairs Rotor with Bunny; that relationship would make a lot of sense. She would have a husband that could fix her robotic parts if something was to happen.

That's kind of on topic. Rotor's character doesn't really lend itself to romantics being that he is the absent-minded professor type. Bunnie, on the other hand, strikes me as someone who would fall for the quiet, reliable type, just like Rotor. I think it is even stranger that the comics paired her up with Antoine, since as time went by, she became increasingly frustrated with his antics. I think even if Antoine were to become less chicken, his bravado and OCD would drive her nuts.

So I think Bunnie would definitely fall for Rotor; getting Rotor to notice her is another story.

#181564 Happy Birthday Sonic Satam!

Hard to believe this show is 20 years old! Man I feel old lol

Yeah, I know. Try being in your 30's.

Seconded. Just turned 30 this year.

SatAM hooked me with a story and has influenced my taste in all other animated media since. It had magic, machines, lasers, an actual bad guy, and a full theme song! How many shows have those today?

Bucky O'hare and the Toad Wars and SatAM -- my two fav shows from the period.

The late-80s / early-90s cartoons will always hold a special place in my heart and memories.

Happy 20th, SatAM. Still shakin' n bakin' -- with no signs of slowing down.

#181495 Brmsort's Season 3 -- Redux

Two updates:

Story has a new home on FanFiction.net here.

Also, the next episode / chapter is up, From Rabbit to Rabbot.

Just FYI, the series is set up like a season of the show. Not all the stories develop the same arc. This one, for example, is a one-shot story.

We know little about the Void. What do we know?

1. It amplifies magic, at least Naugus' magic.

2. It naturally seems to draw substances into it.

3. It normally requires some technological solution to exit. Naugus implies this when he tells Julian to recall him after an hour.

4. It seems to draw the life force, as Naugus says, from those who have been too long in it. The fact that Ari was able to leave confirms this.

5. It seems to be able to sustain people. The Void seems devoid of food, but the King, Ari, and Naugus appear healthy.

I believe that after an indefinite period of time, the Void and its otherworldly energies that sustain its occupants become "entangled" with the souls (i.e., life forces) of the occupants. Somehow this entangling has to be undone for Naugus and the King to leave. I believe Robotnik's recall program alters the properties of the Void to allow this.  Just my idea.

Though season 2 Antoine was indeed the most useless Antoine, he did get a bit more useful in the last few episodes of season 2. It is possible he was going to transform into plucky comic relief for season 3 (instead of being a complete nub as he was for most of season 2). That would have been a better role for him . . . Well-meaning but incompetent.

#180844 Sonic The Hedgehog: Edge Of Tomorrow.

I am not familiar with the comics (which I assume you draw some inspiration from). Despite that, I didn't feel lost, though it is clear this is only an intro. I am interested to see where this is going.

My biggest praise for this is that the story is full of descriptive narrative not just dialogue. One of my pet peeves is seeing a page full of dialogue without any additional details. SatAM was a cartoon; the pictures told a thousand words. Fanfics don't have that luxury, so they must paint with words.

#180482 Science Vs. Religion. This Topic Is Locked Indefinately

Posted by brmsort on 05 September 2013 - 05:18 PM

I did alot of researsh about the bible, or even the Christian religion overall and all the awfull things i've discover....it's.....it's....

*insert Vaas quote about insanity here* . .  Well, here's some exemple:

You go to hell if you:

. . .

-Are a women (Gen 3:16)

. . .

This is the bible.....but this is only the tip of the iceberg....

This entire post is a nothing but an old tired list of silliness that anyone who did even halfway decent research would know is tripe, especially in regards to the work of Jesus on the Cross. Your argument is such a grotesque parody of Christianity that I can't even begin to explain the all the errors here. There are indeed certain things that are hard to believe and understand in the Bible, but this list is but a weak caricature.

But let me quote your reference to the particular statement I left in your quote from Genesis 3:16. It is an example of how ludicrous the rest of the list is.

Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.

This pronouncement had NOTHING to do with being a woman or hell. It was in response to Eve's particular disobedience in regards to eating the forbidden fruit. And the following verses pronounce a greater punishment on man due to Adam's rebellion. Eve is even given the blessing of having the way of redemption coming through her in the PREVIOUS verse Genesis 3:15.

And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

This is in reference to the fact that Jesus would be the seed of a woman instead of a man, that is, born of a virgin.

Finally, you are correct in that the Bible does hold a pretty high standard, one that no one, not even the greatest Christian, will ever achieve. That is why we must rely on the perfect payment of Jesus for the penalty we can never repay, for we can never make it on our own.

Re Uncle Ben. And it only took our embassy getting overrun and Americans sacrificed to murdered by a mob to win it over. The whole Arab Spring is a fiasco. And we all know that no news is not always good news when it comes to Africa and the Mid East.

Re RedStranger. Don't hold back: tell me how you really feel! :awesome:

I do not ascribe to the belief that we are the world's police.

First, we don't know who used the chemicals.

Second, the rebels are not any better than the government they seek ot overthrow.

Third, what do we hope to do over there, set up another glowing success like Egypt?

Fourth, Syria has staunch allies that we really don't want to piss off.

Military action right now is a really poor idea. I really don't think it is our business.
