@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 11:25 AM)

Also I still have to figure out how to set up our e-mail accounts on the new host.

@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 08:19 AM)

As soon as I figure out how to restore it. Sorry, I know I said it'd be done by now, but I didn't expect to have to put up with this DNS crap and other issues that popped up.

@  Uncle Ben : (24 July 2015 - 07:56 AM)

So when's the black theme coming back??

@  Uncle Ben : (24 July 2015 - 07:56 AM)

"Should"

@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 07:27 AM)

That DNS took longer to propagate properly than I thought it would. *Now* we should be back for good, though.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 08:48 PM)

Or it might be because Bluehost *finally* got around to that server wipe (one week after we'd asked for it) and that wiped out our DNS settings. I'm not sure which and I don't really care. In any case, we've severed our last ties with Bluehost, so this will not happen again.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 08:08 PM)

Looks like Bluehost yanked our DNS since our hosting account expired. That's why the site went down a while ago. But as you can see, it's fixed now.

@  Misk : (23 July 2015 - 04:55 PM)

No, they do not.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 04:27 AM)

The goggles do nothing?

@  Misk : (22 July 2015 - 05:50 PM)

My eyes.

@  furrykef : (22 July 2015 - 12:24 PM)

Looks like forum uploads might have been broken since last night. That should be fixed now too.

@  furrykef : (22 July 2015 - 01:33 AM)

Heh, whoops! Server went down for a few mins when I borked the config. Looks like it's back up now.

@  Uncle Ben : (21 July 2015 - 09:09 PM)

It looked like a napkin

@  ILOVEVHS : (21 July 2015 - 09:04 PM)

Fan-fuckin-tastic.

@  furrykef : (21 July 2015 - 08:25 PM)

As for the beaver picture while the forum was down, I think Tim drew it. On a napkin.

@  furrykef : (21 July 2015 - 08:24 PM)

No kiddin' about that "Finally!", Shadow. I am *so mad* at Bluehost for never responding to our support ticket. I submitted it early Friday morning and they *still* haven't answered it!

@  Uncle Ben : (21 July 2015 - 06:37 PM)

Maybe he did that himself

@  Shadow : (21 July 2015 - 05:25 PM)

Say, who made the cute picture of Beaver Chief?

@  Shadow : (21 July 2015 - 05:24 PM)

Finally!

@  RedMenace : (21 July 2015 - 05:02 PM)

Woooo! The site's back up! Three cheers for Kef!

It sounds like the later Grey Jedi are more my speed. I have never understood how the Jedi could bring balance to the force by eliminating the users of the dark side; it makes no logical sense.

There's been a lot of debate about this, both in-universe and in real life, but at the end of the day I'm fairly sure Lucas stated that that's how it's done. Balance isn't about equilibrium between the two. Rather, the Dark Side is like a corrupting cancer, while the Light Side is the natural, ideal state being disrupted. Balance is obtained when the corruption is purged, an ideal that's ultimately not possible to be entirely achieved.

While I've only just finished Chapter 1 of Sea3on, I'm certain as I read more there will be some element here or there that SEGA would be a control freak over.

They'd go ballistic over the first interlude story.

We basically have Bioshock Infinite levels of craziness with dimension hopping going on, as everyone tries to reconcile old memories and new.

Well, I haven't written anything for two weeks. The college semester's been leaving me pretty drained, sadly. I'm planning on devoting the evening to a writing session, but there's no way this is going to be done by the end of the month. Hopefully by Thanksgiving...

The upside to this frustrating lack of progress is that it makes the slow rate of Sea3on updates that much more understandable. I can't very well desire for Saber to rush his art while constantly delaying my own work.

#183640 What Is Your Favorite Sonic Song?

Posted by Captain Sorzo on 24 October 2013 - 12:45 AM

While I like Black Knight's story more than that of the other 3D Sonic games (though that's mainly a matter of the bar being set so low), I agree that Sonic's logic completely falls apart at the end...unless there's some downside to Merlina's plan that I'm missing.

Regardless, I consider songs based on their own merits rather than their connection to the narrative. It's why My Destiny ranks so high despite being associated with SonElise.

Sometimes a story can be woven into a game to give a good interactive experience, but IMO this is when the story is a fundamental part of the game and not something that's just tacked on. Let's consider a game like Doom. What do you do in Doom? You shoot monsters, grab powerups, get keys, unlock doors. The story might give you a reason why you're doing those things, but why you're doing them isn't important. Doom I and II restricted the story to the manual and a screen of text at the end of each episode. And you know what? I love it! Doom is a blast. I'm not here to find out what happened to the laboratory. I'm here to blow shit up!

I'd like to counter that with the Marathon trilogy, the shooter series Bungie made before Halo. It's very similar in gameplay to Doom, but features an elaborate storyline with hilarious dialogue, brilliant writing, and the exploration of deep, complex themes. The storyline changes the entire experience, becoming the driving force for the player even though the gameplay is no worse than that of other shooters of the time. Blasting aliens with a pair of shotguns remains quite fun, but trying to piece together the narrative and understand its implications is ultimately much more compelling.

It's the narrative that keeps me coming back to those games every now and then, even though the gameplay has been greatly surpassed by newer series like Halo. It's that meaningful, even though it isn't even interactive, just text on terminals that can be either skipped or skimmed through.

ANYWAYS...

The comic cant use "Mobius" Anymore... and Flynn was an ass about it as well.

http://www.bumblekin...=364763#p364763

He wasn't being an ass about it. A troll by the name of "Naugus" on Bumbleking Forums was giving him a hard time. I blame SEGA for this!

He's still acting in a professional capacity when posting on the site and should conduct himself accordingly.

I don't visit BumbleKing anymore, chiefly because the site's userbase came across as being comprised largely of sycophants and yes men hanging off of Flynn's every syllable. Flynn could release a preview of an entire arc devoted to Sonic 06's plot, and at least half a dozen people would still post that "Shut up and take my money!" image without any intended irony. While outright trolling is not an appropriate means of generating intelligent discussion, the site could certainly benefit from more users willing to level actual criticism.

While SEGA is certainly to blame for the bulk of the changes, Flynn and the other Archie staff are not without fault. The Mecha Sally story arc had degenerated into a trainwreck of lost potential by the time the lawsuit impacted Endangered Species. In addition, the decision to give characters like Geoffrey and Elias increased importance even as the lawsuit was underway shows an alarming lack of foresight and caution.

Simply pathetic. Hopefully more and more people will start to look for alternative works like Sea3on as they realize that whatever spirit of classic Western continuity the comic was holding has been systematically stamped out over the past year. Further stories based on that golden era will have to come from us, the fans, a group that, though ever lambasted and ridiculed, remains unbound by corporate shackles, free to pursue narrative for its own sake rather than use it as a means of profiting off of the lowest common denominator.

Maybe actually give Sonic a story. And Sally, Roter, Bunnie, and sonsal, and Sonsal, and Roboticization as a cool replacement convept for death, and Sonsal.

I'm afraid that alone won't work.

Of course it won't.

Needs more SonSal.

I mean, which is worse? Polishing your antiques, or abandoning them?

This isn't so much polishing the designs as slamming them into a cookie cutter mold until they fit, with parts breaking off in the process. You're left with a fractured mess that lacks the spirit of the originals. But hey, at least they look like everything else now! Can't have any scary visual diversity getting in the way of stagnant blandness, now can we?

But on the other hand, they still have key features which we know them by.

I could argue that the infamous Sanic drawing shares key features with Sonic's current design. That doesn't mean they're anywhere close to equivalent quality.

#182487 Why The Sega Sonic Fans Hate Sally?

Posted by Captain Sorzo on 08 October 2013 - 09:16 PM

I really don't think that it is people liking Amy Rose that much, but more along the lines of just not liking the relationship aspects in the Sonic Universe and by default they're picking Amy Rose as more or less an anti-Sally Acorn. By doing this they know Sonic will never get "tied down" and the games can continue.

Given all the people actively shipping Amy with Sonic, I don't think that's the case. I just tend to file these things under "chronic insanity" and call it a day.
