The Sea3on audition the last time around involved using a future script page from a future chapter of the staff's choosing. The script had examples of wide shots, close ups, long shots, group shots, background shots- a training exercise to see how the artist would tackle the project. If Gorjira has a page from chapter 7... or maybe a scraped idea that he never used.

 

Another thing to take into account, I was instructed early on to follow the shows design, but eventually Paul realized I was a lost cause and told me, "Whatever, draw them however- just- WHATEVER!" Or something like that....

 

If an artist has an easier time doing their own style rather than forcing themselves to replicate the show's style, that's worth addressing.

 

That is definitely an option. But I got the cash. I'm a rather frugal fellow. I've been saving up to make my own little media-making empire. I'm also a writer and musician and have been saving for VSTs and various softwares for my digital art.

Saber, do you think it would be possible to divide the work up as I have mentioned? Making this a collaborative effort could speed up production and even quality.

 

Well, I don't have the final say, but that was something that was brought up behind the scenes.

 

One problem that was addressed was how manageable a team of 3 or 4 would be on the art side of things, would it make things go faster or would it create more problems say... if someone's behind and the others are left waiting... but it is obvious that it would remove some stress from the artists if the work load was shared equally... and it's not like the comic is updating at a lightning fast speed with just one artist.

 

And it's a common work strategy used all over the place. Honestly, I think it has the potential to help... if everyone can work together.

I'm feeling better- just took two or three weeks... I'm not sure what I had, I just know my family was sick, mama Saber was diagnosed with pneumonia, I thought I had it but then the symptoms subsided so I didn't think I had it... then they came back. I. don't. KNOW anymore. All I remember is it started Christmas week.

 

 

I'm sorry to say, though- I just can't keep things going at this rate. These last few months have been keeping me away due to... well, job searching. I'd love to keep working on the comic, but I also need money. Some fans have been fine with the wait, and everyone has been unbelievably patient, but at this point, I'm just not reliable anymore. I don't want the comic and the readers to suffer on my behalf, so I think it's about time I step down and let someone else give it a go.

If you need the files for your stories, I still have them on my external collecting virtual dust. It's unfortunate I wasn't able to get fan comic going, but I still really liked the story you created and hope to see more from you.

The artwork, however, is...  well, it's not BAD. It's just, awkward looking. I could see this style working for the artist's own characters, but it's a little off putting for the Sonic characters. And there's still a huge fan war going on because of the design changes, this is NOT going to help.

 

It's not just the freedom fighters, Sonic and Tails look off, too. Looks like the heads are a bit smaller in contrast to their bodies in the cover. Just look at these other covers, the larger heads help with the smaller bodies.

 

 

Not the best time to try throwing your own style in while fans are still just getting used to the new designs.

Alright, so we've seen his character concepts, character redesigns, and ideas he has for his story...

 

... Frankly, this looks awful.

 

The new designs are a mess, the story hardly seems that interesting, the designs STILL have a heavy influence from the Sonic universe - Yeah, saw the recent pic of Lara-Su.... So now he's trying to make the characters humanoid to break away from original designs... Not only does she look creepy as all hell now (and... 30 years older- what?), she still looks like she's from the Sonic universe (yeah, the Knuckles dreads are a dead give away. Oh, and he should probably do away with the fist claws if he's serious about this. Even if he makes them weapons or something, people will still think, "Hey, this guy ripped off Knuckles!").

 

Because he was so determined to take his characters he made for Archie and do his own thing, he now has a slew of characters that are heavily tied into the Archie Sonic world.... but to avoid legal trouble, he has to write out any per-existing Sonic related ideas (like, Lara's dad being... you know, Knuckles the Echidna), and change the characters personalities and designs so they won't be associated with their original concepts.

 

... Why didn't he just make a new universe and new characters for this??

Now, Archie has to fill in the holes for the characters that were written out, and Ken is trying to pitch a story centered around the Knuckles the Echidna franchise, while pretending that franchise doesn't exist in his story... Yet heavily relies on it.

Bah - Ok- I'm working to get this page finished. Just been preoccupied with school... To put it simply, this term I'm drawing far more than usual. Whether it's cleaning up past work for a portfolio project, or drawing 30 sketches for homework. Let's just say I've been a little burnt out these past few weeks... oh- and for further laughs, I this weeks 30 drawing exercise... I was using the wrong model, get to do them all over again before I move on! WHEEEEEE! And I said I would try to have it up by friday/saturday - well, surprise surprise, found myself doing some babysitting on the 20'th, and after that I was just exhausted. BEST BIRTHDAY EVER! Well, it's not your guys problem, and I'm really sorry this stuff is holding up the comic, and until it's back, I'm reviving this page (Going to try and have the page up by tomorrow- NO- I WON'T PROMISE ANYTHING! IT JUST ENDS IN MISERY-)



Due to the sepia look of this chapter, Gorjira's color detail is lost with the new characters. He described the coloring, and I while I'm more worried about how well the sepia will turn out, I still want to test what their colors will look like. This is more of a rough design than anything, but it gives you an idea what Gorjia had in mind.



Here's the stuff that gets brushed to the side- I actually went through a few ideas of how the statue would look, or rather, how the figures would be posed.



I forgot when I made this... this might have been after I realized I'm better off not re-creating the SatAM designs, and was experimenting with a cross between modern and retro.

Drawn by the wonderful Salamander back before I stole her position as artist, this was an entry to a contest on the forum that never got decided... I think because there wasn't enough entries. Whatever, the point is I wanted to write something funny... I hope it's funny. Anywho, BACK TO WOOOOORRRRRRRRRk.

Hey, in the end the writers and aritsts have their final say.
Frankly, I just don't like the outfit. I'm fine with everything else, but it's just the design, but then again maybe I'm just not used to sally wearing pants. Maybe some tweaking will be done to it, maybe they'll just go back to the original, or maybe fans will chill. I still stand by what I said, the whole idea of change feels needless for me because I never saw the characters as outdated, but that's just me. I still like the writing, and maybe I'll eat my own words and love the new designs when they settle in.
I don't have a clue.

.... Heh, a group of grown ups whining about the new design for a cartoon chipmunk... man, that's hilarious.

Need to see the most recent episode, but so far I'm really enjoying it. I really like the new characters, the world, and the changes that have happened over the years. As for the villain, something about him makes him a little bit more... frightening than the Fire Nation. While they were a force to be wrecking with, their advantage was their numbers, their advancement in technology... But Amon and his organization, there's so much mystery behind them. You know what they want, but you don't know how they plan to do it or what lengths they'll go to equalize the world. Also, seeing him get to Korra was pretty intense.

Overall, I'll hate to see this show go.
