Red said he couldnt get one

@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 11:25 AM)

Also I still have to figure out how to set up our e-mail accounts on the new host.

@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 08:19 AM)

As soon as I figure out how to restore it. Sorry, I know I said it'd be done by now, but I didn't expect to have to put up with this DNS crap and other issues that popped up.

@  Uncle Ben : (24 July 2015 - 07:56 AM)

So when's the black theme coming back??

@  Uncle Ben : (24 July 2015 - 07:56 AM)

"Should"

@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 07:27 AM)

That DNS took longer to propagate properly than I thought it would. *Now* we should be back for good, though.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 08:48 PM)

Or it might be because Bluehost *finally* got around to that server wipe (one week after we'd asked for it) and that wiped out our DNS settings. I'm not sure which and I don't really care. In any case, we've severed our last ties with Bluehost, so this will not happen again.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 08:08 PM)

Looks like Bluehost yanked our DNS since our hosting account expired. That's why the site went down a while ago. But as you can see, it's fixed now.

@  Misk : (23 July 2015 - 04:55 PM)

No, they do not.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 04:27 AM)

The goggles do nothing?

@  Misk : (22 July 2015 - 05:50 PM)

My eyes.

@  furrykef : (22 July 2015 - 12:24 PM)

Looks like forum uploads might have been broken since last night. That should be fixed now too.

@  furrykef : (22 July 2015 - 01:33 AM)

Heh, whoops! Server went down for a few mins when I borked the config. Looks like it's back up now.

@  Uncle Ben : (21 July 2015 - 09:09 PM)

It looked like a napkin

@  ILOVEVHS : (21 July 2015 - 09:04 PM)

Fan-fuckin-tastic.

@  furrykef : (21 July 2015 - 08:25 PM)

As for the beaver picture while the forum was down, I think Tim drew it. On a napkin.

@  furrykef : (21 July 2015 - 08:24 PM)

No kiddin' about that "Finally!", Shadow. I am *so mad* at Bluehost for never responding to our support ticket. I submitted it early Friday morning and they *still* haven't answered it!

@  Uncle Ben : (21 July 2015 - 06:37 PM)

Maybe he did that himself

@  Shadow : (21 July 2015 - 05:25 PM)

Say, who made the cute picture of Beaver Chief?

Haven't seen any mention of this clip, so... here it is.

Anybody know some more about this?

Jealousy Issues

26 January 2011 - 10:04 AM

Does anybody here know what to do when your struck by jealousy?

Now it's not about a love interest in this case, but about other people's creations and their success. For some reason I just can't stand it when people do the same what I do, but they get a lot more praise and success, even if most of the time, those creations are a lot better then mine.

For example, every time I see a random artist drawing an amazing Bunnie and getting loads of praise for it, I immediatly hate it for being great. There are so many great creative people out there and I really want to love their works, but for some reason I hate them for no reason. I hate to admit this, but this is probably the reason I stopped reading Archie... I despised the Bunnie-two parter, but seemed to be the only one caring, so I became jealous of how many people read it.

It's a pretty dumb feeling. These people should be inspirations, but they are more like obstacles, and we don't even know each other.

So, if anybody experienced this before or knows how to deal with this... help would be nice. But please remember I don't need advise about how to get successful, but how to appreciate the work of others. Thank you.

My Experience As The Dutch Satam Ambassador

08 January 2011 - 05:32 AM

This is my story of how I tried to support SatAM in my country. I hope you'll appreciate it.

SatAM never aired in the Netherlands. AoStH did once in the 90s, and since we had Jetix too, so did Sonic X. Some pages of the Sonic X comic even appeared in the Dutch Jetix Magazine, but there are only two Sonic Archie Comics issues between our borders, and those two are here in my room, bought in England last summer. And of course, the games are just as popular as anywhere.

You might have guessed that this country knows absolutely nothing about SatAM, Sally, chilidogs, etc. The key word in this thread is "alienation". See where I'm going with this?

In december 2009, I decided to rip off the Nostalgia Critic in Dutch (everybody has ripped him off already, but nobody did in Dutch, so it was pretty clever). I made a 20-minute review of SatAM and the Archie Comics, praising the first and giving the second a mixed review. The reactions where mostly positive and I even met a few people that have been fans of this show longer than I was, which was nice to hear. But some people did not care for the review nor the show, because they were unfamiliar with the characters. One said:
"Sorry, but I just can't enjoy I Sonic show without characters by Sega."
The review has gotten over a 1000 views after a year. This of course doesn't mean 1000 people watched it to the end, but I hope I spread the word.

Next I reviewed the other three shows and the movie. AoStH seemed much more well known (Pingas, tee hee) and I gave it a mixed review, because of Robotnik's hilarious character. Next up was Sonic Underground, and since then the reviews are a lot more aimed at comedy. It was a negative review, and according to my subscribers, nobody really cared for this show either. But I didn't bash it, I mean, how can it be worse? Then I reviewed Sonic X. Oh boy, did I hate it. A lot of people liked the review for the comedy (I ended up shooting the characters that annoyed me the most), but I also got negative comments by people who like this show. The movie was also a negative/mixed review.

So that's that. I spread the word about SatAM and got to meet a few Dutch fans, happy happy. Now to DeviantArt.

In february 2010, I started a group called Sonic-NL, for Dutch fans. We now have 36 members, which is okay I guess. But the deviations in this group are very interesting.

First, they ALL have fancharacters, except for me. What's up with that?
Second, unsuprisingly, there is no SatAM-fanart. I dump all my SatAM-fanart in the group, hoping they'll get involved with the show too. One kid confused the characters with fancharacters and one other kid thought it was Sonic Underground. Most of the art the other members feature is about Shadow and Sonic and Amy shipping.
Third, there does seem to be some Archie Comic-fanart. But guess which character they like the most. No, not Sally, not Bunnie... it's Scourge. I personally think this is because he does look an awful lot like a fancharacter. They probably haven't read the comics at all.

So dA didn't seem to help spreading the word. Now to the Dutch Sonic Wiki.

I started the Dutch Sonic Wiki in january 2010 and now, it has almost 400 articles. The majority made by me, mostly about the SatAM/Archie characters. The Wiki isn't doing very well in terms of visitors and editors, but this might be interesting to see.

On the front page, there is a poll: Who's your favourite Sonic girl?
Results:
Amy: 23 votes
Rouge: 10 votes
Blaze: 11 votes
Cream: 1 vote
Tikal: 2 votes
Wave: 4 votes
Sally: 3 votes
Bunnie: 2 votes
Julie-Su: 1 vote
Mina: 1 vote
Fiona: 8 votes
Other: 3 votes

Not very surprising, the canon girls have the most votes while Sally and Bunnie only have 5 together. But one sticks out: Fiona. An Archie-character. With the deviations featured in Sonic NL and the votes for Fiona, I think we can conclude that the Archie Comics are a lot more popular in the Netherlands than the tv-show is. One editor of the Wiki is a big Archie-fanboy, and he claims he has never seen the SatAM-show. Well that's strange.

So, that's what I did for SatAM. I reviewed the Sonic shows in Dutch, gathered Dutch Sonic fans on dA and collected information for those that are unfamiliar with the show and comics. But before I make my consensus, there is this site I have to talk about.

This site is KinderTV, which categorizes all the children's tv shows known by Dutch people. SatAM doesn't have a page, but Sonic X does. And the comment section hurts me.
The grammar of these comments is absolutely terrible and for some reason everybody mentions the relationship between Sonic and Amy. But one comment sums up everything. Translated:

"aaaaah i love sonic x but you guys know there's this show called sonic from 1991? i wasn't even born then but in the show sonic has a girlfriend called sally I MEAN IT SHE EVEN KISSES HIM MULTIPLE TIMES SHE ISNT EVEN IN THE GAMES ARGGH I HATE SALLLLYYYY!!!!
AMY IS A LOT BETTER BECAUSE SHE IS NEWER!!"

Painful indeed. This is how kids today think about Sonic SatAM. They hate it because they're alienated. They are raised with Sonic X, and therefore, they don't care for Sonic SatAM and especially Sally, just because she's not around anymore. True, I hate Sonic X, but in my review, the reason wasn't "because it's new", it was because of annoying voices, Chris, Sonic in a human world, slow pace, stupid Eggman, etc. SatAM is a war between good and pure evil, pollution, robotization, missing family members... all dismissed, just because it's different from what these kids grew up with. It's sad, but true.

But these kids seem to like the Archie Comics because it does have the characters they were raised with. Amy, Blaze, etc. None of the Dutch-Archie fans I met cares for Sally. Bunnie & co either. "But Scourge is AWESOME!"

Consensus:
Kids of the Netherlands are alienated by Sonic X, which means they automatically hate the SatAM show without paying attention to it's undertones. The Archie Comics win the battle, while Sonic SatAM can only be loved by people with an open mind.

Now I know some of you probably don't think this is important because, well, who gives a damn about the Netherlands, but isn't it interesting to see how these minds work? Nevertheless, I will try and do my best to stop the alienation and help my citizens to praise this show.

I would also like to ask people from other countries where SatAM never aired to think about what you can do for your countries SatAM-awareness (sounds a lot more epic than it is), because there are some people who I affected with this show due to my efforts. It might be a few, but it's better than none.

Massagraf out.

Bunnie & Other Requests

[cleaning up act]

Yeah, This Guy Again...

24 December 2010 - 09:45 AM

Remember me? I hope not.

I registered over a year ago, active for a couple of months, and now I look back, posting some really stupid and annoying comments. I'm a year older and a year more experienced, so don't worry about that anymore. Don't remember? Keep it that way.

Came back to support SatAM after grieving over Archie's recent atrocious Bunnie-arc. That was painful. Don't really care for them anymore now, SatAM is the one that should be supported.

I also remember indulging some really crappy drawings over the time including a terrible fancomic. I regret everything. For the better stuff, see link (plug plug)

Might not be very active but supporting SatAM 24 hours a day. Last thing I remember here was something here called Fisher the Bear... how's that coming along?
Also nice to see Twisted Amy is still an emoticon.

Anyway, see ya!
