I heard recently that Ken thought that since Archie had dropped not only his characters but characters created by another writer, Mike Gallagher, that Ken thought he could use the character of Athair in The Lara-Su Chronicles.

I just want to ask one thing. What was he going to merchandise? It doesn't look like anyone here seems to know.

 

So far he has actually produced one piece of merchandise. It's a embroidered patch:

 

 

As you can see from it's design, it's totally 100% original and doesn't rip anything off at all from the old Archie Sonic comics at all. I'm sure that Acorn isn't related to the comics at all, it's probably just the symbol that the Secret Service use. Totally Pender's own original idea (do not steal).

Part of me was hoping it was true, just to see Ken Penders flip his shit, go full retard and try to sue Sega for this Evil Sonic character. Because y'know, since he owns Evil Sonic and all.

I'm just waiting for Ken to take his lawsuit towards Paramount Pictures and DC Comics and try to sue them for the Star Trek comics he worked on.

 

Or how about Ken trying to say that because he painted up they craptastic cover for the Shout!Factory DVD set of SatAM, that by doing that, he is now connected to the show and demands royalites for every single set that was sold. Or maybe he is just THAT batshit insane he'll say the show was based off his run on the comic.

Yep, because everyone who bought Sonic Mega Collection clearly bought it for the collection of comic covers and the readable copy of Sonic Firsts and not for the videos games on the disk. The games were just the bonus features obviously.

i'm glad Brian is brought back. He's not my fave character, but i miss the so-called "love-hate" relationship him and Stewie had. And now i might see some more of that "love" part

 

It's kinda hard ot miss that relationship when it's gap was a mere 3 weeks, a single episode inbetween his death and then retconned death into survival. Had he remained dead for 2 seasons or so? Yeah, I could understand that.

Exactly, I don't really give a shit about things I don't give a shit about. I love my Transformers but didn't really care for the Beast Wars/Beast Machines era so I just don't bother with it. I didn't buy the DVDs or the toys or anything else and I don't go on forums typing about how butthurt I am, how much it sucked and how much better Transformers was back in my day and how I'd do things differently if I had the chance. Why? Because I don't give a shit about the parts I don't care for.

 

And why did I go out and post my previous one? Well... Firstly I knew you'd probably be pissed at it, but I also wanted to see if anyone would actually agree with me. Turns out Ben agreed and I also had someone else like my post, so I must be doing something right if people are agreeing/liking what I put.

Yep, you guys certainly are going to be able to make a difference to all the changes the comic has under gone lately. I eagerly await seeing what you'll all do that doesn't involve you guys actually doing the senisble thing.

 

What is the sensible thing? Well if the comic is pissing you all off so much with the changes and such, perhaps the best idea is to stop reading it? And by that, also not buy it. A drop in readership and as such sales could do some head turning in the Archie offices.

 

Not like that will happen, because if there's one thing I've noticed in many fandoms is that if fans don't like something, they still feel the need to throw cash at said thing they don't like.

 

So you guys keep fighting the good fight, I'll just stand here and do nothing since I don't care for the Archie comic anyway.

It's any fandom's right to get insanely butthurt over everything and anything before... You know, actually experiencing the thing that's getting them so angry.

 

Just look at the fan reaction to Ben Affleck being cast as Bruce Wayne/Batman. "WAAAAAAH! He'll be terrible! Just look at him in DareDevil from 10 years ago! RUINED FOREVER!" I'll be sure to let Chris Evans know then that he is a shitty Captain America based on his portrayal of Johnny Storm/The Human Torch in those two lame Fantastic Four movies.

The reason Nintendo (according to them) are releasing this to have it as a device aimed at 5-6 year olds.

 

Personally I think it's because 3D isn't appealing to everyone. There's probably people out there who didn't want to get the 3DS because of the 3D, completely unaware that the 3D can be turned off. Plus the price point was probably a turn off for them too. Why spend $150+ on a handheld that has 3D as it's selling point if you don't want the 3D?

 

Making the 2DS seems like a retarded step, but at the same time, it's probably a smart move for Nintendo. Since it won't need to include the 3D tech inside, that'll bring the cost down and it might make those who didn't want a 3DS think overwise now.

 

I didn't want a 3DS because I find 3D a truely terrible gimmick, be it used in a movie or a video game. When I play video games, I wanna sit down comfortably and play a game, I don't want to keep that thing perfectly still and level to view something which I can only stand for a short period before it starts skullfucking me so hard I get a headache.. Same thing with Wii/Kinnect/PSMove, when I play a game, I wanna relax and not stand around flailing around like a total moron.

 

As for if I'll get one, I dunno, probably not, but knowing there's now the option, it's more tempting.

You know, that's a really shitty thing to say and good job of offending someone of the forum here. Yeah, that cover is pretty shitty looking, but it's just one cover and it's the variant cover, the guy isn't doing the art inside the issue. It's not like back in the early 2000s when Ron Lim was doodling complete shit in the pages. I think I'd rather have Tyler Capps artwork fill the issue then have Ron Lim back again.

 

Just because your design directors use it all the time and you hear it frequently, doesn't mean it's alright for you to use it yourself, especially when you've constantly said in the past that "the Sonic fandom is filled with autistics!". Surely if you believe your own claim on the Sonic fandom being filled with such people, then it would be a clear bet that by you saying that, it's highly likely someone is gonna take offensive. Annnnnd they did.

I remember back in the day when it was rentals that were hurting the gaming industry. Then it was piracy. Now it's the second hand market.

 

And yet stores don't make a whole lot from the sale of a brand new game or console. How they make most of their money is through selling second hand titles. Get rid of that and a lot of stores gonna get shut down. But it makes me chuckle how these stores are the "enemy" to the publishers and yet they still do store exclusive DLC? Why? Maybe because they need these fuckers to sell their games.

 

Maybe the game studios are losing money because they don't know what the fuck they are doing? Same shit happened in Hollywood. Before you had plenty of studios churning out movies and failing because they didn't know what they were doing. Cannon Films and Orion spring to mind there, producing too many movies at one time, throwing too much money into them or spending money on movies that didn't get made.

 

And sorry, but I think it's my right to trade in a game or get a refund if I think the game I purchased is a total bag of shit. "Oh what's that? You bought our $60 game and you didn't like it? Well too fucking bad jackass!" Especially when it's total shit like Aliens: Colonial Marines that are being hyped up and is supposedly a triple A title being sold to the masses. Oh please, do hype your games up with trailers that don't show actual game play footage and actual game play footage that has been altered to look far more impressive then the finished product and they don't even release a demo so I can try the game out before I buy. Please continue to lie to me so I will glady give you $60+ for a game I will later regret to buying because you lied to me and now I can't get rid of it because of your restrictions. Because that's certainly the way it should be!

Come to think of it, I don't think I know anything about why Penders left Archie either, even though I'd been following the lawsuits from the beginning. His departure came long before the lawsuits, though.

I wouldn't be surprised if they fired him, especially since he's such a douche. (He was a douche long before the lawsuit, too; the lawsuits just made it general knowledge among the fandom.) Actually, considering he's such a prima donna, I'd bet it's one of those things where they more or less got rid of each other (a situation I can relate to all too well).

Wouldn't be all that surprising if he was fired. Reasoning why? Who knows. Maybe it just came down to the fact that the editors wanted someone with new and fresh ideas to take over the comic. It has been said that after Flynn took over the reading figures tripled, so that either means during the end of Ken and the rest of the writers run that readership was either average or low. I personally think it'd be the latter one because it the sales were average, they'd probably have kept the writing team as it were. Penders had been writing for the comic for a good 10+ years at the time he was dropped, and it was pretty clear he was dry on ideas, the last few years of his run was fuckin' boring. Archie told him that his services were no longer required and he probably/hopefully got insanely butthurt about it.
