Kenny Chesney's "The Big Revival" plays as Jason fields questions. Arfwyd brings everyone's drinks on a tray, and hands them out properly, then returns to the kitchen.
A humanoid monster, black with glowing patterns around its body...
*frowns while thinking*
{No wonder they're so worried; this sounds like it could be the product of dark magic, or worse. This 'creature' seems to be either invulnerable or immortal. And the part about there being no sign of the victims on the found items would be consistent with...Kroog, I shouldn't jump to conclusions. We need more information.}
"Sheriff, how long ago were those first attacks?"
"That's a bit of a tricky question," Jason muses, "In our time flow, about a year, now. The town's only been here 5 of our years. The sightings began around 3 years ago, now... And this whole 'death proof' business started around the same time as the first known disappearance."
"Time is not a constant," Luna explains, "In Rick's and my time, it's only been about an hour between the town foundation and now. In your time frame, it's been going on for 7 years. In North's time frame, 7 months. And a good 40 years in Meta Knight's time frame..."
*North scratches his chin, pondering this information.*
"And possibly the first location of the sighting?"
"Unknowable," Jason sighs, taking a drink of the seafoam green fountain drink that he and Rick have been given, "Jeff Blaskowowski was reportedly the first guy to see this whatever-it-is. He was also one of the first to disappear. Y'see... Out here, there's plenty of stuff that could kill someone who's gone off into the woods at night... Feral bears among those... We didn't start investigating until the 3rd missing person report..."
"Once is par for the course," Rick adds, "Twice is coincidence. 3 times is a pattern. Typical law enforcement motto."
"As well as the number of victims as of now?"
He doesn't move as he speaks, but his eyes glow much more as he does.
"10 that we know of," Jason says, "Could be more, that haven't been reported for whatever reason. From what we can tell, this thing only attacks in self-defense. So, we've made it known that it shouldn't be provoked. Barring the disappearances, Death has taken a vacation, here. People have stopped dying from things like mill accidents... Trees falling on someone... Sawblades taking off a hand... That sort of stuff... They just regenerate and go back to their usual lives, like nothing went wrong... Granted, it'll still hurt like Hell if you get shot in the face, but you're not going to die from it..."
