Is it just me, or does this not come off as, "Oh my God, the Crossed are so evil, this is horrifying" but just really awkward? I think just having the other survivors walk away listening to the screams of the family would've been more effective. I think the intention of the scene is to say, "these aren't vampires or werewolves that are scared of garlic or silver, this is a whole new breed of monster." Just showing that salt doesn't work by the fact that the family doesn't make it would've done that. As it stands, the scene is presented like one of those sitcoms where the husband says, "I'm never going to wear that suit and tie." Then it cuts to him wearing the suit and tie and his wife telling him what a douche-bag he is for it. It's timed for comedy, but the content is so graphic and po-faced it doesn't come off as either horrifying or funny. It just seems really awkward.
