At this point, do you think Sega would care enough to sue a filmmaker if he made a live action cyberpunk television series with humans but that was clearly based on SatAM? Think the future scenes in the original Terminator. Except it's people being turned into robots by a warlord, sort of like the episode of Doctor Who where everyone's been forcibly turned into a Cyberman. There's a princess leading her gang of friends in a guerrilla resistance, all of whom were clear analogues of the SatAM cast. However, they're not critters and have different names. Would Sega care, or is the current Sonic franchise so different from SatAM it wouldn't even occur to them?

As long as it doesn't directly have their licensed characters or mention them, no they would not care.

If SEGA takes legal action, more people would find out and want to watch.
If not, no one would care.
Reverse psychology in marketing.

"Everyone creates the thing that they dread. Men of peace create engines of war. Invaders create Avengers. People create... smaller people...? CHILDREN! (chuckles) Lost the word there..."

Technically SatAM's set up is not an original idea in itself. There were tons of similarly set up shows in the 90s, most just weren't as good. So as long as it wasn't a direct rip-off, no they would't care.
It's that same belief that "good artists create, great artists steal".

I don't just mean the set up, but the characters: a tomboy princess, her A.I., a southern cyborg, a frenchman, a mechanic...maybe a little kid they're looking out for and an immature, but useful rebel. Perhaps the only way SatAM could come back is if it was reborn as something else.
