@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 11:25 AM)

Also I still have to figure out how to set up our e-mail accounts on the new host.

@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 08:19 AM)

As soon as I figure out how to restore it. Sorry, I know I said it'd be done by now, but I didn't expect to have to put up with this DNS crap and other issues that popped up.

@  Uncle Ben : (24 July 2015 - 07:56 AM)

So when's the black theme coming back??

@  Uncle Ben : (24 July 2015 - 07:56 AM)

"Should"

@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 07:27 AM)

That DNS took longer to propagate properly than I thought it would. *Now* we should be back for good, though.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 08:48 PM)

Or it might be because Bluehost *finally* got around to that server wipe (one week after we'd asked for it) and that wiped out our DNS settings. I'm not sure which and I don't really care. In any case, we've severed our last ties with Bluehost, so this will not happen again.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 08:08 PM)

Looks like Bluehost yanked our DNS since our hosting account expired. That's why the site went down a while ago. But as you can see, it's fixed now.

@  Misk : (23 July 2015 - 04:55 PM)

No, they do not.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 04:27 AM)

The goggles do nothing?

@  Misk : (22 July 2015 - 05:50 PM)

My eyes.

@  furrykef : (22 July 2015 - 12:24 PM)

Looks like forum uploads might have been broken since last night. That should be fixed now too.

@  furrykef : (22 July 2015 - 01:33 AM)

Heh, whoops! Server went down for a few mins when I borked the config. Looks like it's back up now.

@  Uncle Ben : (21 July 2015 - 09:09 PM)

It looked like a napkin

@  ILOVEVHS : (21 July 2015 - 09:04 PM)

Fan-fuckin-tastic.

@  furrykef : (21 July 2015 - 08:25 PM)

As for the beaver picture while the forum was down, I think Tim drew it. On a napkin.

@  furrykef : (21 July 2015 - 08:24 PM)

No kiddin' about that "Finally!", Shadow. I am *so mad* at Bluehost for never responding to our support ticket. I submitted it early Friday morning and they *still* haven't answered it!

@  Uncle Ben : (21 July 2015 - 06:37 PM)

Maybe he did that himself

@  Shadow : (21 July 2015 - 05:25 PM)

Say, who made the cute picture of Beaver Chief?

@  Shadow : (21 July 2015 - 05:24 PM)

Finally!

@  RedMenace : (21 July 2015 - 05:02 PM)

Woooo! The site's back up! Three cheers for Kef!

Okay, let's look at some of the smilies that you can select on this forum:

:suicide: :fuck: :fuckyou: :FU:  :axehead:

So.... I don't know what the general consensus is on this forum, but to me, having these emoticons readily selectable seems... not conducive to making this forum a fun, welcoming environment. I'm guessing these have maybe been on here a long time....? Would it be feasible and/or reasonable to remove them?

Some say that he knows 2 facts about ducks, and both of them are wrong. And that 61 years ago he accidentally introduced Her Majesty The Queen to a Greek racialist. All we know is, I'm going to the tower now to have my head cut off, and he is called The Stig.

Hey... I use the axe head one now and then. Usually in reference to Kef.

Lol! That one just struck me as a bit too violent, as far as emoticons go...

I also found these two:

:homo:  :snb:

These are made slightly awkward by the fact that Antoine and Bunnie are now married! (albeit in a different canon) Plus, after The Odd Couple, I'm convinced the one on the left wouldn't work out, lol. But still, I appreciate the acceptance that is implied by these.

But anyway... Am I the only one who thinks the ones in my first post are maybe a bit much?... (except maaaaybe the one Vlad Yvhv likes?)

EDIT: ROTFL! After I posted, I saw my Robotnik avatar looking at those emoticons; that worked out perfectly!!

Personally, I'm more offended by the homosexual icons than the cursing ones. But I'm with you on the suicide one.

Also, that was a little joke about the referencing Kef with the head-axe one. Kef and I often clash on various subjects, and kind of take jabs at eachother sometimes. Actually, I use the head-axe more often to indicate that I've got a migraine. But, I suppose for a replacement for that, I could use :mind-blowing: . For Kef I can always use this combo:  :Flamethrower: :Burnbabyburn:

Just as long as no one takes away :evo:. That one is almost like my signature.

Oops, I didn't think that would be a controversial topic on these forums... Oh well, I used to be like that too, so I will leave you alone on that.

Anyway, I wouldn't say I'm offended by the F-word in a vacuum, it's just that (1) this is a Sonic forum, so it seems out of place, and (2) a few of those look like they would only be used to flame someone.

And I assumed you were kidding about the Kef thing, lol.

It mostly isn't. Mostly.

this is a Sonic forum, so it seems out of place

Meh, usage of adult language has always been pretty entrenched here. Hell, before chief took over, this site used to have a porn subforum. (It was semi-private, though, so only people who really wanted in got to see it.)

Yeah but it also existed before him as well.    When I first joined back in..I dunno 2001 or 2002 there was a forum for it.  And it wasn't even private.  But as time went on it became password protected.  Then it vanished...then came back...vanished..came back...Then stayed.   Till I took over and got rid of it.  Cause..Well I didn't want it.

The site actually had a number of things on it back in the day that wouldn't really fly today.  Back in 2002 I recall a gore topic.  Like pictures from one of those gore sites.   Few other odd things like that.

So.. Yeah the forum had its more adult areas thats for sure.   Which matches up with what Kef said about adult language being more entrenched here.  Certain things have been removed.  And defiantly certain topics wouldn't fly here like they did in the past.  But FUS is still a more adult site when it comes to the language rules and on a number of other things.   That has always been the main difference between us and say SMS.   SMS was more welcoming and for younger members when it was founded.  Where as FUS was founded by a bunch of old high school students to college students.     I was actually fairly young when I joined...14 I think.

Anyways, far as the smile face things go...Ill look into it and chat with some other admins. See what they all think.  I'm not really concerned with them one way or the other.

Ill also stop rambling about pointless FUS history.   (Ive been here far too long).

Hey, I find it interesting! I was around for when SMS sprung up and you're pretty right, I recall Mike founding it as a more family-friendly SatAM forum and also as refuge from some of the drama that was going on here at the time. I'm a bit sad that activity over there has dropped off, but I'm grateful that Porpoise is still keeping the lights turned on. I didn't know that FUS had danced as close to the fire though as you describe... guess I'm a latecomer (I started hanging around in '05 or '06)

Anyway, I'll steer myself back on topic: I don't see anything off-putting about them as after all, FUS is a pretty mature community in terms of average age per active member, and none of them are any more vulgar than anyone saying 'fuck' or 'shit' in a post anyway, so, meh.

Also, who even still uses emoticons, anyway. Sooooo 2000s. pfboJm6.gif

Yeah by 04 05 Kaotix was doing a good majority of administrative stuff. I think I was made mod around that time too. Maybe a boy earlier.. grade 11 or some junk for me.

Yeah fus defiantly had its scene with drama back in the day. Granted I met some of the best people on here back in the day as well. Some who I wish were still around.. others who are still around.

One of the earlyear starts to some of the weird crap and drama was due to the splitting and then semi re merging of TSN and FUS. Back in 01 both sites shared the same message board. But due to issues (a disagreement with both site owners) Alison ended up breaking away from TST and creating her own forum on FUS. So you basically had a split in forums.. ppl taking sides etc. Then TSN later shut down so everyone merged to FUS... so how you had members who didn't like each other. .. It was a weird time.

Then Rocky took over and things got worse for that. Mostly because no one knew who he was then poof.. one day he had the site. Lots of the older members left around then... forum activity died off basically.

Meh I could write a book on the wacky world of FUS history but I'll stop boring you guys.

Lol, it's fun to hear how hectic a history FUS has.

I was briefly a member of FUS many years ago and then left, but I don't know how that fit in with the overall history. I just remember that if anyone mentioned the idea of there being a SatAM boxset, everyone would be like, "You stinking fool! Such a thing could never happen!" So satisfying to think what happened soon after that... :P

I first joined FUS back when the boxed set was still in the development stage. Then, my account got deleted during a site move. Then re-joined and got deleted again during a purge, because I lacked internet access for a year or so. Then, joined up again and haven't gotten deleted yet.
