@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 11:25 AM)

Also I still have to figure out how to set up our e-mail accounts on the new host.

@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 08:19 AM)

As soon as I figure out how to restore it. Sorry, I know I said it'd be done by now, but I didn't expect to have to put up with this DNS crap and other issues that popped up.

@  Uncle Ben : (24 July 2015 - 07:56 AM)

So when's the black theme coming back??

@  Uncle Ben : (24 July 2015 - 07:56 AM)

"Should"

@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 07:27 AM)

That DNS took longer to propagate properly than I thought it would. *Now* we should be back for good, though.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 08:48 PM)

Or it might be because Bluehost *finally* got around to that server wipe (one week after we'd asked for it) and that wiped out our DNS settings. I'm not sure which and I don't really care. In any case, we've severed our last ties with Bluehost, so this will not happen again.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 08:08 PM)

Looks like Bluehost yanked our DNS since our hosting account expired. That's why the site went down a while ago. But as you can see, it's fixed now.

@  Misk : (23 July 2015 - 04:55 PM)

No, they do not.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 04:27 AM)

The goggles do nothing?

@  Misk : (22 July 2015 - 05:50 PM)

My eyes.

@  furrykef : (22 July 2015 - 12:24 PM)

Looks like forum uploads might have been broken since last night. That should be fixed now too.

@  furrykef : (22 July 2015 - 01:33 AM)

Heh, whoops! Server went down for a few mins when I borked the config. Looks like it's back up now.

@  Uncle Ben : (21 July 2015 - 09:09 PM)

It looked like a napkin

@  ILOVEVHS : (21 July 2015 - 09:04 PM)

Fan-fuckin-tastic.

@  furrykef : (21 July 2015 - 08:25 PM)

As for the beaver picture while the forum was down, I think Tim drew it. On a napkin.

@  furrykef : (21 July 2015 - 08:24 PM)

No kiddin' about that "Finally!", Shadow. I am *so mad* at Bluehost for never responding to our support ticket. I submitted it early Friday morning and they *still* haven't answered it!

@  Uncle Ben : (21 July 2015 - 06:37 PM)

Maybe he did that himself

@  Shadow : (21 July 2015 - 05:25 PM)

Say, who made the cute picture of Beaver Chief?

@  Shadow : (21 July 2015 - 05:24 PM)

Finally!

@  RedMenace : (21 July 2015 - 05:02 PM)

Woooo! The site's back up! Three cheers for Kef!

*Somewhere in Southeastern Kansas, an unassuming 34-year-old, 5ft 3in tall Native American man with glasses walks past a crowd of people. When he has gone by them, he smirks, and for a moment, his eyes are pitch black. He is not simply the man these people have known for 34 years. No. There is someone else present, here. The one known as Vlad Yvhv has begun to stir again.* Cue the theme from John Carpenter's The Thing...

I hope my absence hasn't been too much of a problem. Especially amongst the RPG folk. I'm not back for good, yet. Just borrowing my grandparent's computer and internet connection for a few hours.

For those wondering, what happened is that my phone line died and AT&T decided they didn't want to come out an fix it. And I moved. So, now I'm trying to get them to come out and put a new line in at my new house so's I can get online again. Still can't afford high-speed internet.

So, I'll hang around a bit off and on today. But you won't be hearing much from me again until I get my new phone line. So, please be patient.

Good news! Looks like I'll be back in business on the 1st or 2nd. :evo:

So, I might as well give y'all a run-down of what's been going on on my end for the past few months:

1: My dad died in January. It's been a bit rough on us all. But the prospect of being able to be back here will help me to cope better. We're selling off the oilfield stuff, so I've become an oilfield worker again to help get everything ready for the sale. It has to go through probate before we can sell it, because Dad was in debt. It won't be sellable till December. But, it's kinda nice to be back doing more physical work than lifting my grandpa in and out of his wheelchair.

2: I have a new house at a different address. So, any stalkers out there will be wasting their time by trying to find out where I was living. It's a nice place. The first week or so gave me that feeling of living in a Hotel for a while. But, now it's home. Also, the dogs have adjusted to the move well.

3: I got an X-Box 360 and a bunch of games. Currently skill-grinding/power leveling in Skyrim. And occasionally taking a break to body-snatch and cut loose on badguys in Prototype 2, or do some semi-mindless badguy slaying in Rage and Prey. The general lack of cheats for a lot of the games I have is a bit of a bummer. But I can have lots of fun with Heller in Prototype 2. He's about as close to Vlad as a videogame hero will ever get, I'd say. Skyrim is fun, too. Werewolf + Ring of Hercine = Infinite Werewolf transformations.  :evo:  There are also options to become a vampire, but vampires suck.

4: My grandpa is doing much better. He's made a lot of progress these past few months. He's getting back to his old ornery self again. Can talk better. Also, is capable of walking short distances unassisted by anything but a cane, and further distances with someone there to make sure he doesn't fall over.

5: There has been some reworking of the Thylans and a minor retool of Rick Tyger. If anyone's interested, let me know and I'll work up a topic for it in the creative works section.

6: I now know the origins of the Omnians. I'll put that up in the creative works section some time after I get back fully.

Update: Due to tornado-ish weather on the 1st and 2nd, ATT has yet to come out and run me a phone line. I do, however, have a valid account with them. Just have to make a call in tomorrow to set up a new time for them to come out, it seems. So, hopefully, I'll really be back soon. Till then, I'll stop by on Wednesday afternoons, as it's my day off and I can borrow my grandparents' computer.

Not 100% back yet. Still getting stuff put on the new computer. But I DO have a phone line, now. And my new connection speed is faster than my old one, by about 2-3x. As soon as I get Accelerator on this thing, that should really jack the speed up. :evo: Hopefully, everything can get downloaded tonight.

Once more, I was offlined by technical difficulties, compounded by sickness and a bout of depression that led into over-indulgence into Skyrim. But, like good ol' Jason Voorhees, I refuse to stay down. So, rejoice or cower or cuss or whatever, FUS, for the resident psycho is back online! *Cue "He's Back (The Man Behind The Mask)"*

You should be pleased to know I watched a John Carpenter movie in your absence.

Yeah. It's a rather underrated movie. There's some rumors that Carpenter plans on doing a remake of that one, too. Though, most of Outpost 31 would prefer he go with a sequel to The Thing.

Underrated?

I hear it's one of the most famous he's made, there's a lot of influences it made in media.

Your sources are flawed. It's actually one of his lesser-known movies. Also, a lot of people look down on it for being somewhat dated, nowadays. Which goes to prove my theory that a lot of people are morons... They Live has given the right people some inspiration, but really falls into the "Needs More Love" trope, when the general populace is concerned. Most of the people who reference the movie these days are doing so indirectly, unaware of the movie, itself. Most only know the iconic bubblegum line, because it's been used in everthing from Duke Nukem 3D to popular cartoons... It's sad that most of them haven't even seen the movie they're referencing. If they had, it would likely be giving his more popular movies a run for their money...

Most people will forever know Carpenter for The Thing, which even he considers to be his master work. That movie has inspired generations of special effects artists, and tends to wrap its tentacles around the hearts and minds of most people who see it, for good reason.  He worked up the ultimate monster and made a solid action/horror movie around it. All of his other movies live in the shadow of this one. But then again, most ALL movie monsters live in the shadow of the creature. Godzilla may be the only true exception...

I've seen at least some media and art referencing the alien's subliminal messages.

Still, I liked it. If not only for the ending scene at the station.

I didn't say that it's completely unknown. Just that it really needs the mainstream populace to watch and enjoy it more. The fact that you you like it is a good thing. It's cool that you like it. :evo:

In other news, a combination of bad weather and migraines have caused me to be gone for a couple of weeks. I hope to be back more regularly, from now on. Also, I'm going to be changing my avatar to an Omnian cell. The Thylacine head isn't being retired, and will return at some point.
