Basically what happened was Notch was tired of the company, wanted out, and tweeted an offer to sell his shares (an 80-90% stake in the company). Everyone inside and outside of Mojang assumed it was a joke, right up until he actually signed an agreement with MS. Oops.
You know this will make Notch sink from Hero to Zero in the gaming community...This will be a massive disappointment to indie-level developers who looked up to him. This is just what we need after the Gamergate fiasco...
