I don't know why all of you are panicking over this now, when this news was announced over a year ago, back when the reboot started. Kinda late on the reaction, don't you think?
The reasoning behind the lawsuit is pretty sad, and quite frankly redundant. Penders sued Bioware because of some of the enemies "Swat-Bots" resembled his work. So he went and took on EA and won! Now he has full freedom to do what ever he wants with his characters. Although if you think about it. Fiona Fox is not truly his as she was in the ealy days of the comics, when Spaz was the one behind them.
I don't know where you got your information from, but some of the details you listed are incorrect.
For staters, the Swatbots aren't his creation; they originated from SatAM. What he's really after are the Marauders/Nocturnus Clan and Shade the Echidna due to "similarities" with his creations: the Dark Legion and Julie-Su. For some stupid reason, he feels that they ripped him off without paying him.
Secondly, Penders didn't win against EA/Bioware... Heck, as far as I know, he hasn't won anything yet. His case was settled alongside Archie's, and both were given equal shares and guidelines which to fallow. Archie wanted to continue using his characters, but Penders wanted their book to be canonical with his upcoming "Lara-Su Chronicles"; something which wouldn't fly well with Sega and their mandates. Having no choice, they decided to drop everything related to his work from the series. And that's how it all came to be.
Also, Auto-Fiona (the original robot) was created by Mike Galligher.

Sounds bogus to me. I doubt they're some characters who are staying.
Why is Archie dumping characters anyway?
Does that mean Sally and the freedom fighters are being dumped too?
Think about it, without the SatAM cartoon running that technically makes those characters Archie exclusives?
I mean for f*cks sake, penders literally took more then half of Archie's content cuz of that lawsuit (including characters)
But now Archie wants to take more of their content away?!
Jesus Christ are they trying to make their jobs harder on themselves on purpose.
With less characters and material, means a harder time to write

Nothing's going to happen to the SatAM cast. They're the main reason why the comic is still continuing. I mean, why would they go through the trouble of reintroducing them in the rebooted continuity if they were eventually going to be dropped from the book anyway? It doesn't make sense.
Yeah but for me the old world was better, than what the comics world is now. I actually have a hard time stomaching some of the new issues, because of all the changes.
Honestly, I'm liking the new continuity so far. The old universe might've had a lot of potential and lore, but a majority of it consisted of mediocre-to-terrible issues that most readers would rather glance over just to reach the Flynn-written ones. In hindsight, it was a comic in a desperate need of a reboot.
This new universe, while closer to the game canon, seems closer to the original TV show's tone than most of the earlier issues ever did. King Acorn's new persona being the biggest homage to SatAM yet. It also feels more consistent and properly put together. Honestly, I'm all for exploring this new universe. There were sacrifices to be made, but it was done so that we could still be reading up on our favorite Freedom Fighters.
Of course, that's just my opinion.
