Sony really wants the Playstation games as movies. First Ratchet and Clank, now this?
After watching the trailer, it shows promise and its not LA, its CG. It looks interesting

Looks good
But, you know how video game movies are.. it'll always end up bad... depends on the story though. We'll see.
Also, I wonder if Carmelita Fox will be in it?! ![]()

I assume yes

Part of me is screaming "yes" like a giddy fangirl.
The other part of me is letting off a loud groan of annoyance specifically since Sly 4 was only C quality.

That is true. It does sound a lot more plausible with all these other gaming movies...
But again that doesn't mean it'll be good. We haven't seen anything yet.
Also it makes me more disappointed that the Zelda movie was turned down.

Honestly I would too.
While I'd love to see a Good Mario Movie, and Paper Mario is a great series...I just don't think it'll fly as a movie. Specifically since what makes it good can only be done via video games.

Looks good, I'd prefer the more cartoony designs of Sly 1-3 though. Ratchet and Clank kept their cartoony appearance... why can't Sly.
Also I'm guessing a lot of these movies are coming out because Wreck-It Ralph was very successful, and even though Fix-It Felix never really existed, it was a game movie, and contained lots of game characters and a game related storyline, and still did good. Game.

Wreck-it Ralph really did show you can have gaming as a theme and not bomb. I think what it did right was remain pure CGI, even in the real world parts - the biggest error prior video game movies made, I think, was they tended to consist of taking characters and dropping them in the real world. Most video games have pretty good cutscenes... a movie is an expansion of the principle.
I think the film will do well, same with the Ratchet film, for the reason I just gave. This film is being supervised by Sucker Punch and Sony, and so it will be staying true to the core of the series; it's basically going to be Sly 1 without the gameplay.
As for the art change, that was explained as the producers feeling that cel-shading wouldn't work as well on the big screen. I've no idea what happened to Murray, but he is the least interesting of the three in my view, so I'm not too worried.
What is making fans fairly antagonised besides the Murray design is that Kevin Miller is NOT reprising his role as Sly, even in the actual movie. It's a sad day indeed. ![]()

I think the reason why most people dont like Video Game Films is because its either A.) Crap (looking at you Mortal Kombat Armageddon) or B.) Not the same expierence you would get in playing the game. Considering you're taking a game thats (on average) 24-96 hours long and compressing it into a 2-Hour time frame.
Yet there are ways around it... but would it be worth it. My friend Dan figured out how to take Skyrim and make it into a Film... though the way he would do it is break it down and do certain parts first (like a film showcasing the Companions line and then another film doing the Thieves Guild) There are ways they can do it. Its just the question of do they want to?
But for Sly: I think they have something there

The thing about Sly, is Sly is a video game that tries to feel like an old cartoon show or movie. In theory it should transfer between the two medias easily.
But it all comes down to the writing. If the writer screws up nobody will like it, but if they're good it'll be a good movie regardless of what it's about.

One of the big downfalls of a video game film is that it's not interactive like the source material. HOWEVER, there are plenty of cutscenes in most games, and so the idea itself is sound if well-written.
The real issue, I think, is most video game films went with a "throw this game into real life" approach, with ordinary people being thrown into the lore in some manner or another, loads of cruddy CGI, etc.
Pure CGI films are probably the best way to go if your source material isn't predominantly human.
Also some good news. The official Facebook says that no voices are set in stone yet, and so Kevin Miller COULD possibly make the final cut.
