According to sources, the Sonic movie will be released in October 2018, and the producers are aiming for a PG-13 rating.

Having read through all the previous comments on this thread, I have mixed feelings about the movie, but I am still looking forward to it. I'll need to see images and maybe the trailer before making any final decisions.

Until a trailer comes out, we all are probably sitting on that "going to see, but are unsure about it" fence.  I wish they had something to show us.  Everything really is just speculation at this point.

As I said before, the PG-13 rating probably is just to give a little more leeway with the script as the line between PG & PG-13 is rather small. There's not a lot of difference between the two.

Then again, it's been rumored for years that the MPAA is going to drop PG ratings and just go with G, PG-13, R

Sounds sensible to me. Though I think putting it down to just an age rating is oversimplifying things in the first place. People have differing attitudes towards things like swearing, violence, and sexual content, but we rarely get much more than an age rating to go on.

It also bugs me how we've developed this culture where you absolutely can't release a G-rated movie anymore unless it's for kids. As though a movie magically transforms from a kiddie movie into an adult movie if you add the word "fuck", or vice versa if you remove it.

Tell me about it. I recall reading somewhere that George Lucas had to fight the MPAA to change the rating for "Star Wars" from G to PG so that older people won't mistake it for a kids' film.

Now the joke's on him. PG is the new G nowadays.

Rating systems either get too strict or too loose. Generally speaking since each film is unique there's no way to properly fix the system.

We probably won't see anything related to it until about a year from now. Until then, we're stuck on the speculation train...

Ratings are supposed to give a general idea (salutes) of what the content of the film is supposed to be like, trailers can fill in the bubble

Why do I have a feeling the pg-13 rating is directed more at the humans rather than the Sonic characters (unless Shadow is in it).

Before honor comes humility.

The Most High God created this world we live in, and He created man in His image for Himself.  Whether we like it or not doesn't change the truth nor does it change the consequences.

It might depend on the direction of the film. I recall reading somewhere that the producers are aiming for a tone similar to Nolan's "The Dark Knight", which either means the show will be a darker spin on a familiar franchise (similar to SatAM) or a completely different interpretation altogether.

Considering that the movie will feature redesigns of the cast, I'm leaning more towards the latter.
