@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 11:25 AM)

Also I still have to figure out how to set up our e-mail accounts on the new host.

@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 08:19 AM)

As soon as I figure out how to restore it. Sorry, I know I said it'd be done by now, but I didn't expect to have to put up with this DNS crap and other issues that popped up.

@  Uncle Ben : (24 July 2015 - 07:56 AM)

So when's the black theme coming back??

@  Uncle Ben : (24 July 2015 - 07:56 AM)

"Should"

@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 07:27 AM)

That DNS took longer to propagate properly than I thought it would. *Now* we should be back for good, though.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 08:48 PM)

Or it might be because Bluehost *finally* got around to that server wipe (one week after we'd asked for it) and that wiped out our DNS settings. I'm not sure which and I don't really care. In any case, we've severed our last ties with Bluehost, so this will not happen again.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 08:08 PM)

Looks like Bluehost yanked our DNS since our hosting account expired. That's why the site went down a while ago. But as you can see, it's fixed now.

@  Misk : (23 July 2015 - 04:55 PM)

No, they do not.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 04:27 AM)

The goggles do nothing?

@  Misk : (22 July 2015 - 05:50 PM)

My eyes.

@  furrykef : (22 July 2015 - 12:24 PM)

Looks like forum uploads might have been broken since last night. That should be fixed now too.

@  furrykef : (22 July 2015 - 01:33 AM)

Heh, whoops! Server went down for a few mins when I borked the config. Looks like it's back up now.

@  Uncle Ben : (21 July 2015 - 09:09 PM)

It looked like a napkin

@  ILOVEVHS : (21 July 2015 - 09:04 PM)

Fan-fuckin-tastic.

@  furrykef : (21 July 2015 - 08:25 PM)

As for the beaver picture while the forum was down, I think Tim drew it. On a napkin.

@  furrykef : (21 July 2015 - 08:24 PM)

No kiddin' about that "Finally!", Shadow. I am *so mad* at Bluehost for never responding to our support ticket. I submitted it early Friday morning and they *still* haven't answered it!

@  Uncle Ben : (21 July 2015 - 06:37 PM)

Maybe he did that himself

@  Shadow : (21 July 2015 - 05:25 PM)

Say, who made the cute picture of Beaver Chief?

@  Shadow : (21 July 2015 - 05:24 PM)

Finally!

@  RedMenace : (21 July 2015 - 05:02 PM)

Woooo! The site's back up! Three cheers for Kef!

Hey guys,

As many of you know FUS is a non profit website (obviously).  The server, Sea3on, and paying other staff here and there comes out of our own pockets.   Which has been mostly fine over the years, but as the site grows upkeep, server costs, Sea3on, and other things just go up in price.   Ive used the server we are on to help start up websites such as http://electricfyinggames.com/ to make their place known on the web at no cost.  As well as for a while the server ran a 24/7 Minecraft world.  I know a good chunk of you visited that.

With money becoming tighter around here, and come December the full cost will be riding on my wallet there will have to be some cuts.  Now I do have a job, I could pay to keep everything how it is, but that isn't going to get me anywhere.  I have my daughter among a lot of other things and bills my money goes into.   I have said it before, FUS is a money hog.  A pretty one that has a awesome comic on it. . But still a money hog.  Something I won't be able to financially support the way we have been.

I have already chatted with my staff over money issues, as well as letting my S3 staff know whats up and how I will do my best to keep funding the comic, however with no clear answer coming up I am not too sure how that will go.  Granted my guys have been excellent and are going to help me figure this out so it is a win win on both sides.

Now this is the part that I find hard.   Ever since coming into ownership of FUS I wanted to pay my guys properly.  Run a steady server, help up started projects and so on.  Which, I have done to the best of my ability.  I never once wanted to ask for anything in return, just wanted to keep FUS ticking along smoothly.   However with life, bills, and well, mostly life my FUS savings bank is drying up.  Forcing me into seriously considering certain things.
Ive never wanted to ask for this but if you can spare a buck or two that would be amazing. (donation button is on the front page of the website...Or click here)  If not, hey just keep supporting us and what we do like you are.  I have some of the best followers, staff, artists, and friends on this site.   So I'm happy there.

Over the coming months I'm going to try my hardest to keep FUS the same.  I will continue to work with my Sea3on staff and also working on Sea3on Animated.  The support we have on those 2 projects is massive, and I love them just as much as you.

Thanks again,

Cheers,

Paul

Gee guys, I really wish I could, but I can't use Paypal, and I'd barley have cash to spend anyway. Sorry.

Give us a goal number we need to reach. Then one we want to reach, within reason.

Then, let's think of various ways those goals could be met. And discuss which are the most apt.

 I have a Pay-Pal. I will donate what I can.

There is no goal number.  FUS is just a on going monthly expense.  From server costs to S3, renewing the forum licence every 6 months, other things.  It isn't something to just put a mark on and call it a day.  Nor am I after a big lump of donations instantly.  This is just something that needs the occasional buck or two tossed into it by those who can,

Roughly speaking if you were to toss everything into a monthly rate..Its anywhere from 100 to 130 USD a month.  A bit hard to calculate cause some things are monthly charges some are every 6 months..Then staff costs and ..Well the list goes on.

Once Sea3on Animated is unveiled, do you anticipate enough of a long-term increase in site traffic for ad revenue to increase appreciably?

Oh the adds give me next to nothing.  Unless site traffic increases 10 fold would it really amount to much.  You are looking at like 10 cents a day as a max currently.

Sea3on animated I'm not even counting as cost right now.  That's a separate issue all together that has its own separate goals and so on.   Where as the S3 comic its self is a site related issue.   Although I guess the two do tie in together.

Paul was kind enough to not mention this, but basically this is my fault. Since taking over as co-owner with Paul I have been fortunate enough to have a crazy steady income and was sble to cover all server costs (and the other little expences that popped up with these kinds of things).

Long story short: I'll be leaving the Army (and the crazy steady income) behind me, and taking on a pretty huge home renovation bank loan, and will no longer be able to carry on my role as the finance supporter of FUS. I feel like shit about it, honestly. Like I am letting our little community down just as it is coming into its prime. The choice was simple enough, just not very easy to make - but life and family must always come first.

I am sorry.

There is no need to be, John. You have priorities, your family being most important. When my paycheck comes in next week (and I get a 1000$ I loaned out with intrest to a trusted friend and get some GD commision money for a big photography shoot), I am going to give up some dough. Now that I know how much, I think I can help. The way I see it people fork 60$ a month for crap like the next COD game and such, the least we can do is give something to support an actual community.

When I'm working again I might be able to contribute something. But right now that's very unlikely.

A petition to keep up to a third of the characters in the sonic comics from being lost forever.

To those who want to give this "new direction" a chance, don't say I didn't warn you.

Hmm... I may be able to help some in late December or early January, depending on how much Christmas money I get. Winter months, I tend to not have such high bills and can kinda squirrel away some extra money for stuff like this.

Some of us might not be able to help monetarily, but mayhap there are other ways we can help out the website?

We are actually discussing a scheme where FUSers can donate a kidney for us to sell on the black market. Watch this space!
