@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 11:25 AM)

Also I still have to figure out how to set up our e-mail accounts on the new host.

@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 08:19 AM)

As soon as I figure out how to restore it. Sorry, I know I said it'd be done by now, but I didn't expect to have to put up with this DNS crap and other issues that popped up.

@  Uncle Ben : (24 July 2015 - 07:56 AM)

So when's the black theme coming back??

@  Uncle Ben : (24 July 2015 - 07:56 AM)

"Should"

@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 07:27 AM)

That DNS took longer to propagate properly than I thought it would. *Now* we should be back for good, though.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 08:48 PM)

Or it might be because Bluehost *finally* got around to that server wipe (one week after we'd asked for it) and that wiped out our DNS settings. I'm not sure which and I don't really care. In any case, we've severed our last ties with Bluehost, so this will not happen again.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 08:08 PM)

Looks like Bluehost yanked our DNS since our hosting account expired. That's why the site went down a while ago. But as you can see, it's fixed now.

@  Misk : (23 July 2015 - 04:55 PM)

No, they do not.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 04:27 AM)

The goggles do nothing?

@  Misk : (22 July 2015 - 05:50 PM)

My eyes.

@  furrykef : (22 July 2015 - 12:24 PM)

Looks like forum uploads might have been broken since last night. That should be fixed now too.

@  furrykef : (22 July 2015 - 01:33 AM)

Heh, whoops! Server went down for a few mins when I borked the config. Looks like it's back up now.

@  Uncle Ben : (21 July 2015 - 09:09 PM)

It looked like a napkin

@  ILOVEVHS : (21 July 2015 - 09:04 PM)

Fan-fuckin-tastic.

@  furrykef : (21 July 2015 - 08:25 PM)

As for the beaver picture while the forum was down, I think Tim drew it. On a napkin.

@  furrykef : (21 July 2015 - 08:24 PM)

No kiddin' about that "Finally!", Shadow. I am *so mad* at Bluehost for never responding to our support ticket. I submitted it early Friday morning and they *still* haven't answered it!

@  Uncle Ben : (21 July 2015 - 06:37 PM)

Maybe he did that himself

@  Shadow : (21 July 2015 - 05:25 PM)

Say, who made the cute picture of Beaver Chief?

@  Shadow : (21 July 2015 - 05:24 PM)

Finally!

@  RedMenace : (21 July 2015 - 05:02 PM)

Woooo! The site's back up! Three cheers for Kef!

I know I know, you've heard me and many others go on and on about how this fanbase is fragmented and full of crazies. You know, the recolor "artists", the people who complained about Sonic's green eyes, the voice actors, and so on.

But this time it's different. I'm going to talk about the idiots on the OTHER end. This is a problem that is bigger than you realize (bigger than I realized too) and I feel it is not talked about enough.

What I am referring to are the "sonic fans" who at first SEEM sane, they do make many good points about how Sonic is going down the toilet, but then destroy all credibility by placing the blame on the furries.

And if you don't know what a furry is:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Furries

So in a nutshell their whole argument is that fans of anthropromorphic characters ruined a franchise based priamrily around an anthropromorphic character. Let's use that "logic" elsewhere, shall we?

"The ending of Mass Effect 3 was caused by science fiction fans!"

"Nickelback is the fault of the fans who listen to rock music!"

"Gamers everywhere are why Microsoft nearly screwed up the Xbox One!"

See how STUPID that is? If anything, furries actually helped keep Sonic alive. They have contributed MANY great pieces of fanart. I've seen some people cosplaying (or even fursuiting) as Sonic characters, including a few SatAM characters. How is this ruining Sonic at all.

But they they give you this whole sob-story about how "furries ruin childhoods" because they think some of the characters ar good looking. Yeah, because that's SO MUCH WORSE than their repective franchises being mangled in the corporate machine, being killed off, being mutilated, or being lost because of a stupid lawsuit. If you complain about THOSE things you're labled as "a manchild that needs to grow up". But if you say that finding anthro-characters attractive is not a big deal you're labeled as a zoophile. There are two things wrong with this. First, you either care about your childhood or you don't. Second, it suggests that these characters are not even beings at all. I know they are just fictional but this thinking scares me to the core. That whole "they're just animals" argument has justified some of the worst actions in all history. You KNOW what I'm talking about. I bet Ben Hurst would punch these people in the face if he were still alive. Even ROBOTNIK had more respect for the Mobians than that!

And it's not just the random idiots who sees the internet as just a harassment tool. There were several people who were pointing out many flaws with the Sonic franchise and his fanbase. Some of them seemed to be really cool, easy going, and interesting poeple. Their words used to really resonate with me. I believed in them, trusted them, even thought they were the answer. But now I see how much of a FOOL I was. When I addressed this to one of them I was hoping we could settle this privately and in a civilized way. Instead he exposed my conversation to everyone opening the floodgates to my haters and then some. I never should have trusted him.

So you know what I have learned? These people don't truly care about Sonic, they only care about doing damage. They claim to have all the answers but they're no more sane then all the rest of the crazies in ths fanbase. At best they will only replace our present set of problems with a whole new set of ones.

Oh, and before I forget. You know all the people who got sick of all the bullshit that DID ruin Sonic and decided to leave his fanbase for it? Guess where they went? That's right, they joined the furry fandom. I believe that should be the last nail in the coffin of the "Furries ruined Sonic" argument.

I can see what you're talking about; it's a sticky subject, what is known in an argument as a "Tar-Baby" argument, i.e. the more you argue about the subject the more you get stuck in it; trying to solve the problem only makes it worse. This term comes from the Br'er Rabbit tails in where Br'er Fox makes a statue out of tar that ends up trapping Br'er Rabbit and the more he fights the more stuck he becomes. Heck, I grew up listening to my parents read these stories and have fond memories and an affection for those anthro characters; does that make me a furry?

Anyway, just because you like a character and like that character a certain way does NOT mean that you want to have sexual relations with said character, period. If people want to use that straw-man argument against you it shows more about their psyche than yours. So far with my Sonic fandom I've been lucky to escape the criticism and accusations from liking Sonic and SatAM; funny enough 20 years on I'm actually a lot less embarrassed by my Sonic fandom than when I first watched SatAM. I guess I hang with people that look at it as some sort of nostalgia for us 30 somethings; heck even recently I get A LOT of positive comments when I wear my Sonic shirt, and this is from total strangers. I guess what I'm saying is you need to find the right people to hang around and pick your battles; the furry argument is a difficult one to win.

If you define yourself as a Furry, you are a furry.  If you describe yourself as a fan of Anthro Characters, you are a fan of Anthro characters.

There is nothing wrong with being either of those, right?

I don't see a problem with someone being either/or.

I don't find a problem with either.  I consider myself an Anthro fan, as I like anthropomorphic characters. Animals, objects, whatever.
