@  furrykef : (25 July 2015 - 03:35 AM)

When was that? Depending on when it was, it might have been a DNS issue. Those should be gone now.

@  Uncle Ben : (24 July 2015 - 10:10 PM)

on*

@  Uncle Ben : (24 July 2015 - 10:10 PM)

Red said he couldnt get one

@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 11:25 AM)

Also I still have to figure out how to set up our e-mail accounts on the new host.

@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 08:19 AM)

As soon as I figure out how to restore it. Sorry, I know I said it'd be done by now, but I didn't expect to have to put up with this DNS crap and other issues that popped up.

@  Uncle Ben : (24 July 2015 - 07:56 AM)

So when's the black theme coming back??

@  Uncle Ben : (24 July 2015 - 07:56 AM)

"Should"

@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 07:27 AM)

That DNS took longer to propagate properly than I thought it would. *Now* we should be back for good, though.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 08:48 PM)

Or it might be because Bluehost *finally* got around to that server wipe (one week after we'd asked for it) and that wiped out our DNS settings. I'm not sure which and I don't really care. In any case, we've severed our last ties with Bluehost, so this will not happen again.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 08:08 PM)

Looks like Bluehost yanked our DNS since our hosting account expired. That's why the site went down a while ago. But as you can see, it's fixed now.

@  Misk : (23 July 2015 - 04:55 PM)

No, they do not.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 04:27 AM)

The goggles do nothing?

@  Misk : (22 July 2015 - 05:50 PM)

My eyes.

@  furrykef : (22 July 2015 - 12:24 PM)

Looks like forum uploads might have been broken since last night. That should be fixed now too.

@  furrykef : (22 July 2015 - 01:33 AM)

Heh, whoops! Server went down for a few mins when I borked the config. Looks like it's back up now.

@  Uncle Ben : (21 July 2015 - 09:09 PM)

It looked like a napkin

@  ILOVEVHS : (21 July 2015 - 09:04 PM)

Fan-fuckin-tastic.

@  furrykef : (21 July 2015 - 08:25 PM)

As for the beaver picture while the forum was down, I think Tim drew it. On a napkin.

@  furrykef : (21 July 2015 - 08:24 PM)

No kiddin' about that "Finally!", Shadow. I am *so mad* at Bluehost for never responding to our support ticket. I submitted it early Friday morning and they *still* haven't answered it!

@  Uncle Ben : (21 July 2015 - 06:37 PM)

Maybe he did that himself

i kinda like the Sonic X thing where Mobius IS Earth and at the same time it ISNT, like it split apart after awhile

Good observation Ben. There is always a third option in an "either/or" choice, you just gotta be clever enough to write it.

 How'd you pull that off?

One option is that at one point their histories were the same, but then evolution happened differently on Mobius thus creating a whole new world with similar patterns.

Another option is Earth is an alternate dimensional Mobius (also vise-versa) where some historical event did not take place.

I'm in the opposite boat of LogiTeeka.  I think establishing Mobius as Future Earth takes away from the story.  If Mobius is Future Earth, than Mobius is Limited to Earth Physics/Sciences/etc.  If Mobius is it's own world, Mobius is free to have things that wouldn't work on Earth work, without resorting to it being "Because of the Chaos Emeralds" or "Because of the Master Emerald" or the like.

I wasn't suggesting it to be introduced immediately, I was thinking along the lines of gradually introducing it. Kinda like in "Adventure Time", where it gradually reveals the Land of Ooo's origin through a series of hints and flashbacks of the mysterious Mushroom War (a nuclear war).

From what I can tell, the physics of Mobius aren't that different than Earth's (gravity acts the same, light exists, ect.). The only difference is that the world harbors many bizarre natural anomalies (odd landscapes, super-powered sentient animals, goofy-looking humans, ect.). I mean, the characters can do incredible feats that are nearly impossible in real-life, but so can the heroes of DC and Marvel; even though they live on Earth as well. And considering animals already posses incredible skills which humans lack, imagine how powerful they'll become through future evolution.

i kinda like the Sonic X thing where Mobius IS Earth and at the same time it ISNT, like it split apart after awhile

Funny, that's eerily similar to Mobius' backstory in Fleetway's STC. I wonder if the creators were influenced by this, or if it's just a coincidence.

If that's the case, I sometimes wonder just what that cataclysm was that split the "Sonic X" Mobius from Earth's timeline. The Chaos Emeralds perhaps?

I would have a meteor hit the planet containing the emeralds, the energy creates a carbon copy of Earth and sends it to a different demension/part of the galaxy. Earth could have the Sol Emeralds for example and Mobius the Chaos Emeralds

Origins of Mobius? Yeah I can do that.

I like how Archie handled it more or less, but they really didn't do much with the Xorda (and probably won't because if we DO get a Black Arms Invasion Arc that might mean the Xorda will either be too weak to be a threat anymore or be wiped out, I can understand why though). Although if I was running the comic maybe the Xorda would have more parts other then the SA2.5 Arc, almost like how Doctor Who handles aliens...wait, is it just me or do the Xorda kinda look like Daleks? Anyway I'd have it so that the Xorda are more aggressive, Humanity has just started to go out into space as huge Ark-like Ships are exploring in order to terra form a new planet in another galaxy (a project YEARS in the making), while a crew (and thousands of people) are away the Xorda attack, why they attack I think could be withheld for awhile just so we can add mystery here. Though Humanity makes a valiant effort The Xorda are too much a nearly turn the planet into glass (no Gene Bomb here, you could guess why). So the Planet is completely screwed, but Humanity in the Arks make themselves new homes on a planet they name after their lost home (what a twist!). Under the sun the ruined Earth cannot make any more life, it would seem that this planet and all it's former life will just sink into the soil, dry up and die...until the Emeralds Arrived...

Why use Gene Bombs? The Emeralds themselves can do the job just as well! I was gonna have it so a little chunk of humanity escapes during the Earth-Xorda War but it seems more unlikely that they can get a ship through a fleet of more advanced ships. If you read some of my previous theories you can guess where everything else leads up to, but I don't wanna spoil TOO much and that while I have a decent guideline for The Echidnas I don't have ALL the details in just yet as making the Echidna Backstory from Archie much more smoother and not as complex is pretty tough. So I guess that I'm mixing both STC and Archie here, Mobius and Earth are separate planets, HOWEVER Mobius was The Original Earth and this other Earth is a terra formed and colonized planet. Honestly though I don't think I can do much with Another Earth strange enough, but if Humans came from Space and crashed onto Mobius then not bad if I do say so myself. Maybe a BIT convoluted and Ironic as hell but I'm digging it.

Seriously, HOW THE HELL did nobody know that Robotnik was evil!? I mean just look at those red, glowing, hellish eyes, oh yeah I can completely trust that guy with my life! *sarcasm*

Better have a meteor who contain the emerald instead of a meteor who contain the martian. It's less deadly. xD

I kid, I kid. Anyway, I'm in the camp that Mobius shouldn't be tied to Earth at all. Trying to force a connection feels contrived regardless of the approach, and it doesn't add anything particularly meaningful from a world building standpoint. Having sentient, anthropomorphic analogues of Earth species isn't going to make sense anyway, so it's better to not dwell on it and let suspension of disbelief handle the rest.

As far as the origins of humans on Mobius, I like to think of them as descendants from a lost colony vessel of some sort, as it still leaves them distinct from the other species. While Earth could be their original homeworld, having it be some other planet entirely offers more narrative possibilities. The same is even more true for Mobius itself. It provides a clean slate, one that can be developed in any manner whatsoever.

It isn't as if the narrative is inherently weakened by Earth not being involved in some way. The Star Wars galaxy, one of the most developed fictional settings of all time, gets along just fine without it.

I thought it added an interesting aspect to the overall premise. I mean, Mobian society is basically a prosperous utopian culture being threatened by Robotnik and his industrial corporate empire. Most people like to imagine the future like Mobius, all green and natural; while Robotnik's empire represents the greed and corruption of the past. It's basically new age vs. old age respectively.

And while an explanation isn't needed for everything (like tiny details that aren't important), the presence of sentient animals accompanying humans is gonna raise some questions. To fully understand the series, there needs to be some details to explain the scenario, but leave enough room for the viewer's imagination. For example, we don't need to know how Sonic is capable of running at high speeds, but we would like to know where he got it from (without too much detail).

Interesting that you put it that way, as my own conception is essentially the exact opposite. I see in Mobian society romantic fantasy. Castles, kings and princesses, wizards, all of it is often associated with a sort of mythic past, most notably Arthurian legend. Robotnik, by contrast, embodies modern industry, centered around efficiency at any cost. In struggling to overthrow Robotnik, the Freedom Fighters are in a sense attempting to validate the existence of romantic ideals in the face of today's cynical world.

Tolkien explores something similar in The Lord of the Rings, with Isengard embodying a more modern, industrialized world threatening to overtake a romantic fantasy world. SatAM just takes the concept much further, allowing Isengard to win, so to speak, and placing this conflict at the core of its narrative.
