I'm honestly not a fan of fan-fiction, but if i had to make a story on my own, it would be based on something already established.

 

Did anyone remember the ''Great War''? According to the Archie Comie, the Great War happen between 3220 to 3225 and was a conflict that oppose the Acorn Kingdom to the Overlander Empire. Later in the war, when Julian change side, he help the Acorn Kingdom to change the tide of the war, to eventually bring victory. But so far, not so much is know about this war. Some element were told here or there, but alot of hole can be see in this war. So, i tell myself, why not make a complete story of the Great war? This story is mainly based of the few know element of the war, told by the comic or ''the Blast to the Past'' episode from SatAM, but some change could be done here or there in order to make the story consistent. In the comic, the war is usualy show as kid-frindly. But this is war, and will be shown as such. I don't intent to make a ''dark'' or ''edgie'' story, but only intented to make it belivable in his presentation. This is war, people will live, some will died, etc. Overall, the harsh reality of war.

 

I like to imagine this story in a animated series of 10 episode, in which each episode told some part of the war from the beggening of the conflict to the end. I always found silly to see the Mobian fight like barbarian with fist and sword agaisnt an imperial army with high technology.

 

In my full interpretation of the Great War, i'm inspired from many element from many battle. I take inspiration from other thing like movie only to enhance the credibility factor of the story.

 

I always imagine the Acorn Royal Army with a WW1 British-like uniform, fight with bolt-action rifle and few machinegun. At that period in Mobian history, the technology was in a pre-industrial state. Their enemy, the Overlander Empire, was equiped with high-tech weapon. I imagine the Overlander with a Russian Spetnaz-looking uniform and equipment, but with a more high-tech look to it. The reason why i choose the Spetnaz look for the uniform is because for a powerfull army, i want them to look menacing and powerfull, to fully represent their autority and power.

Add a more high-tech look to the armor and it's perfect!

 

This story will be told through 10 episode (or you can called it chapter too if you want), each of them will be told one by one in this topic. Maybe (just maybe), i'll draw some picture to represent some historical battle of this conflict, and show these draw like if they were picture taken during the event (to give this story a documentary feel to it).

 

I first talked about this story to Robthe1st, which he suggest me to go here and share it with everyone. At first i didn't know if i really want to. But hey, why not? It's not like i'm gonna lose anything if i do so. So there it is! If anyone is curious about this story and want to ask few question before i begin, go ahead.

Well, one day has passed and let see how many question has been....*cricket sound*.....ask...

 

Hum, nice start? Okay then....let's proceed in this case. Why do i have such a bad feeling about how much unpopular my story would be?

 

The story would be told through the eyes of Jules (Sonic's father), which will be involve from the beggining to the end of the war. Only the first and the two last episode he will not be the main protagonist.

Alright, now that i put that out of the way, let's begin!

                                                     ----Episode 1: A good day to die----

 

Early September, 3220, at the city of Mobotropolis, the Capital of the Acorn Kingdom. A military car follow the main road to the royal castle. The vehicle stop at the entrance and someone came out of it. It's the Commander Armand D'Coolette. He then walk in a hurry towards the castle, stopping only at the military checkpoint to show his identification paper. He came here to inform the high command and the king himself of the current situation. He then leave (always in a hurry) and return to the car. While doing so, you can heard the alarm siren turn on and resonate his sound through the entire city. It mean only one thing, the capital is in sight of the enemy and will have to be evacuate, quickly! *Title show-up*

 

Flashback (the rest of the episode will be told through this flashback): Mid-June, 3220. After years of tension between the Acorn Kingdom and the Overlander Empire, the current leader of the Overlander Army, the Overlord Charlemagne declare war agaisnt the Acorn Kingdom. From both side, recrutment are ask to serve their nation (supported with alot of propaganda, of course). From the Acorn family, they are sceptical about the issue of this conflict, knowing the technology power of their enemy. In these earliest days of the war, the General Amadeus Prower is choosen to lead the earliest operation. Following the intel from the military recon, he suggest the King about making the first move. A weak spot is found in the slowy moving troop near the town of Furville. Since that at this point, the Overlander are preparing for a big offensive but only moving their troop for the moment, making a fast strike operation and taking advantage of the surprise effect, Amadeus think he could break the supply line and avoid the local town to be taken under fire. The king agree with this plan and leave the entire operation under General Prower hand. For this offensive, the 1st and 2nd tank division will go with the support of 3 infantry division. By thinking of making a fast strike will quickly turn into a complete and utter disaster. The enemy defense was much stronger than expected and the two tank division would be lost. More than 85% of the 3 infantry division would be killed, or injure (the Overlander rarely take prisoner). The Overlander would then take the bridge near the Furville town and take the town itself too on their way, thus making it their first victory. After this faillure, General Prower was replaced by Armand D'Coolette to lead the following operation.

 

The war had just begun, it was already looking horrible...

 

More information: I was inspire by the battle of Tanenberg, from the Eastern front in 1914 for this episode. In that battle, the Russian thought they could lead a major offensive agaisnt the German, which quickly turn into one of the biggest faillure in warfare history. That was a horrible defeat the Russian had to endure, especially since it was just the earliest month into the war.

Oh boy, more than a week ago and i still forget to keep the story going. Well, i don't think anyone care...

 

Well, let's keep this extremely unpopular story that no one will probably ever read:

 

                           Episode 2: Downfall Part 1

 

Capital of Mobotropolis, early September 3220. The episode begin right after the first scene of the previous episode. From this episode and so on, the character of Jules (Sonic's father) will be the main character and narrator of this series.

 

While the alarm siren is heard through the entire capital, you see someone walking fast toward a residential street. It's Jules and his about to meet is brother (Charles) before he leave the city with the other for the evacuation. Jules want to tell him that he decide to join the Acorn Royal Army along with his wife in order to defend their land agaisnt the Overlander. Of course Charles disagree with this idea. ''What about your son, Maurice?'', he said. Jules is perfectly aware of the risk to died at the front and never see his son grow up. But he felt like it's his duty, and want to offer a better future to his familly. That's why he came to talk to him, to tell him to take care of Maurice (Sonic) while he's away. Bernie is already at her post, at the defense position built at the entrence of the Capital. Jules quickly return to his post, alongside his wife, ready to fight when the moment will come. Machinegun nest and artillery has been post quickly this morning. But the enemy is coming with heavy tank and infantry.

 

For the rest of the episode, it will be about the struggle to hold as long as they could. The moment that everyone fear had to happen, the Capital was overwhelm and forced the lastest division to fall back, outside of the City.

 

                                Episode 3: Downfall Part 2

 

This episode follow directly after the evacuation at the end of the previous episode. Unlike the previous episode which has alot of action, this episode will be rather quiet. Evacuate through some of the lastest military vehicle around with military supply with them, Jules, his wife and other slodier meet a rendez-vous point. It's the total chaos. Many commumication are cut, causing more confusion and many of the General or other officier from the high command are either missing or are busy with other sitaution to take care of what's going on in here. Many civilian don't know where they will be sent, and many wounded can't be helped since they don't have enough medic. Overall, the episode will be mainly about the aftermatch and the direct consequence of what's to come. But one thing is for sure: The future isn't looking well...

 

More information: The name of these two episode is a direct reference to the 2004 movie ''Downfall''. The fall of Mobotropolis at the beggening of the war can be reminiscent of the fall of Paris in 1940, in the earliest years of the war.
