@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 11:25 AM)

Also I still have to figure out how to set up our e-mail accounts on the new host.

@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 08:19 AM)

As soon as I figure out how to restore it. Sorry, I know I said it'd be done by now, but I didn't expect to have to put up with this DNS crap and other issues that popped up.

@  Uncle Ben : (24 July 2015 - 07:56 AM)

So when's the black theme coming back??

@  Uncle Ben : (24 July 2015 - 07:56 AM)

"Should"

@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 07:27 AM)

That DNS took longer to propagate properly than I thought it would. *Now* we should be back for good, though.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 08:48 PM)

Or it might be because Bluehost *finally* got around to that server wipe (one week after we'd asked for it) and that wiped out our DNS settings. I'm not sure which and I don't really care. In any case, we've severed our last ties with Bluehost, so this will not happen again.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 08:08 PM)

Looks like Bluehost yanked our DNS since our hosting account expired. That's why the site went down a while ago. But as you can see, it's fixed now.

@  Misk : (23 July 2015 - 04:55 PM)

No, they do not.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 04:27 AM)

The goggles do nothing?

@  Misk : (22 July 2015 - 05:50 PM)

My eyes.

@  furrykef : (22 July 2015 - 12:24 PM)

Looks like forum uploads might have been broken since last night. That should be fixed now too.

@  furrykef : (22 July 2015 - 01:33 AM)

Heh, whoops! Server went down for a few mins when I borked the config. Looks like it's back up now.

@  Uncle Ben : (21 July 2015 - 09:09 PM)

It looked like a napkin

@  ILOVEVHS : (21 July 2015 - 09:04 PM)

Fan-fuckin-tastic.

@  furrykef : (21 July 2015 - 08:25 PM)

As for the beaver picture while the forum was down, I think Tim drew it. On a napkin.

@  furrykef : (21 July 2015 - 08:24 PM)

No kiddin' about that "Finally!", Shadow. I am *so mad* at Bluehost for never responding to our support ticket. I submitted it early Friday morning and they *still* haven't answered it!

@  Uncle Ben : (21 July 2015 - 06:37 PM)

Maybe he did that himself

@  Shadow : (21 July 2015 - 05:25 PM)

Say, who made the cute picture of Beaver Chief?

@  Shadow : (21 July 2015 - 05:24 PM)

Finally!

@  RedMenace : (21 July 2015 - 05:02 PM)

Woooo! The site's back up! Three cheers for Kef!

Well, since i have recently got ''The Conduit'' on the Wii, i've saw the original trailer and i notice many change. The HUD look different, just like many sound effect and voice acting/dialogue. The cursor have change as well, the Eye artifact and some object with which you can interact with too.

It look like that:

This makes me not give a shit that Lucasarts was canned by Disney.

Telltale actually wanted to make a new Sam & Max game that used the same plot as the cancelled LucasArts game, but Disney buying LucasArts put the nail in that coffin. Or at least that's according to one of Telltale's employees on the Telltale forum; it's not exactly a fully official statement.

Apparently Gumpei Yokoi isn't famous enough to be called anything other "the inventor of the Game Boy".

Also, he apparently wasn't a janitor, but rather he maintained the assembly lines used to make hanafuda cards. It probably wasn't exactly a glorious job, but it sounds like a step up from janitor to me. Also, this incident was in 1966, whereas the factoid makes it sound like this happened shortly before he designed the Game Boy (or even that the device he made was a prototype Game Boy).

(Hanafuda's an interesting game, BTW, or at least the variant I played, which is called koi-koi.)

EDIT: Corrected the date.

So he basically made the predicesor or the ideal of the Game Boy

In 1966 the microprocessor hadn't even been invented yet. Not much scope for a Game Boy prototype there. :P

The toy Yokoi made that impressed Yamauchi was an extending clawy grabby thingie called the Ultra Hand. Later on he was also involved in the development of games such as Donkey Kong and Metroid.

So he made the latter to what i said: the ideal of the G.B.

Resistance: Fall of man. This game was a launch title and a exclusif game for the PS3 in November 2006. This video was a gameplay footage show during the E3 2005 (one of the very rare game to be show in real-time, instead of CGI preview).

The chimera in this video are still there in the final game, but look a bit different. The weapon isn't there at all in the final version. Note how this version lack an ''grenade throw'' animation. Also, we fight human in this version. Who they are exactly and why we fight them? I don't know, but it was scraped for sure in the final product. The SRPA Black Ops uniform look a bit different too.

Now, a more recent footage, but still beta nontheless:

The weapon in this video is the M5A2, which is the actual standard weapon in the game. The enemy look like they are in their final design as well. But the main difference here is the presence of the SRPA Black Ops, fighting by your side. In the final game, the only black ops we can find are dead. The only alive black ops in the game aren't in-game, but in a cut-scene at the end of the game.

In a beta stage of Pikmin 2, there are two unused types of Bulborbs:  the Blue and Yellow Bulborbs.

Betayellowbulborb.PNG

I can't find the video but I can find one of the images.

While on the subject of Pikmin....

In Pikmin 3 you can collect "secret logs" or "Secret files" that show videos of the other explorers on the planet.  There are 5 in total.

However there was a sixth log featuring Louie from Pikmin 2 that was unreleased in the game.  However it was translated and "leaked" onto the internet anyways.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl.

This game is a holy grail when it's about beta/prototype content. Announced in 2001, the game when through a development hell before reach the store shelf in 2007. So many thing have changed in this game. If i listed all the element that were removed, or changed, or altered, etc, i'll be here forever...almost.

I will at least mention something interesting from the final released version:

Some beta content can be found in the game, without the need of hack, mod or anything. In the map of the Dark Valley, outside the bandit camp, some beta content can be picked up: a guitar and a flashlight. These item can't be used, but can be resale.

This is where they are:

If hacked, more data can be found within the game's coding. Usable car with their texture, 2 or 3 gun that are complete but can't be access without debug for some reason. At some point in the game, a side-mission should reward you with a rare gun. But because of a script error, you are rewarded with an another gun, making the original reward impossible to access without modding (since it was the only place we could find it).

Maybe i'll come back one day to talk about a specific prototype, since many prototype of this game were leaked.

PS: More beta data info here: http://tcrf.net/S.T....ow_of_Chernobyl

If i've talked earlier of Resistance Fall of man, it's time to talk about the beta of his sequel: Resistance 2.

Here's some gameplay footage:

This scene, while still being in the final game, is different in some aspect. First, in the beta, you are being followed by SRPA Black Ops. In the final game, they were replaced by the Sentinel soldier instead. Your weapon, the M5A2, has a different iron sight and can carried more bullet (more than 400 in the beta, unlike 180 in the final game). The rest look more or less the same.

To end this, i have a concept art of the beta design of the M5A2 and his final conterpart.

-Far Cry 3 Beta

Totally different HUD and CGI cutscene that aren't in the final game. We can also see Jason wearing a watch on his left arm (which isn't here anymore in the final game).

Now, look at the E3 2011 demo (the first presentation of the game):

Jason got capture in a totally different way than in the final version (in which he got knocked down by Vaas). Some small change can be notice as well, like the layout of this place have changed, Jason don't yell ''FUCK YOU'' at Vaas when falling and there's probably more change that i haven't notice and/or remember.

Well, this is why i created this topic in the first place: To share and discover some change and/or difference between a beta/prototype and the finished product ;)

You can also talk about game that never saw the light of day, this topic is for that too.

Half-Life 3 (or Half-Life 2 Episode 3, whatever) is an exemple of a game that died before even begun (like Shenmue 3).

But to be honest, i'm surprise to see some people still talking about this game, like if they seriously think this game will come out eventually. The last time we heard of this game, was when some picture was leaked. It wasn't even 3d model or anything ingame, but just some concept picture that were made in 2008 or something like that. The only other news were when the project Hal-Life 2 Episode 4 was cancelled by Valve, probably since they knew how HL2 Episode 3 will never be made. The point of making this game episodic was to reduce development time. But more than 5 years later and no sign....This game may haven't been officially cancelled, but it's clear that this game is dead at this point.

R.I.P. Half-Life franchise.

Its considered Vaporware at this point. They did the same thing between Team Fortress 1 and Team Fortress 2. And Duke Nukem2 & Forever

Its gonna happen... when is the question

I consider it dead. If Valve would have really the intention to do it, this game would have been done since a long time ago. After all, why they found time to make Portal 2, Left 4 Dead 2, many hat pack DLC for Team Fortress 2 and more, but don't find the time to make HL3? This seem too ridiculous to me. Gabe evade the question everytime he's been ask about HL3, simply because he know how much the fan would be dissapoint.

I can't see this game as a vaporware, since the development never actually started (not as far as we know). To be a vaporware, it has to start at the very least. Don't get me wrong, i don't want to see this game died, but at this point it's hard to not see the evidence of the current situation: it's complete silence for too long and it's not gonna change anytime soon.
