Now back on topic....
I'm all for appeasing all fans, but that's not possible. Some fans would like to see the SatAM characters in the games, some fans don't. You can't find a middle ground between those two options. The closest they could get is making multiple games each one designed to please a set audience.

Now back on topic....

Thats why I say a music game can feature that. Final Fantasy T. have a lot of characters in the game here is the list:

There is around 40 and doesn't matter what FF is. Think on it, is a game that doesn't matter what characters will be there, because no one have special movement, just special stats and with 40 characters, you can even add Sonic Man from Sonic 2006 lol
.The only fail I know already about this game is that is for "fans". SEGA never aimed a game for "fans" only for "general" market so in my opinion they never will make a game like this. I think could be a big game, low cost and pretty nice but...I'm not SEGA

For me, i do have some faith for some fan here or there, but not for the fanbase as a whole. At this point, the Sonic fanbase just broke down to a point of no return. But hey, at least there are some nice and good fan here and there....that's something, i guess...

Oh boy! It remind me of a comment section of a french Sonic website that i went some time to time. There's a page for many character, and all of them have their own comment section.... and if you could see the comment in the Sally and/or Amy comment section, you'll find a bunch of insane/delusional/creepy/disconnect from reality or any form of logic or sanity kind of fan!
