To be honest I never read the Echidna stories in the comics. But that being said hope she does come back, and being that she is a fan favourite I see it happening. However, in my opinion for all tense and purpose she'll be very different and maybe have a different name even, so in reality she'll be replaced.

We'll see... depends on Archie and Ian (He doesn't like her anyways, just a rumor) if they want her back.. I'm sure she'll be in a different style like Ian did all of the SatAM cast... maybe she'll wear pants for the first time! Maybe...

I never read too many of the Knuckles comics back in the day, but I hope that Julie-Su and some of the other Echidnas come back.  I still like some of Ken Penders' ideas, and the Echidnas was always an interesting concept just because of how different it was from the rest of the canon.  But yeah if she comes back, I wouldn't be surprised if she got a redesign too.

Problem is EVERYONE sees the Echidnas (other than Knuckles) as just Knuckles clones and what not

I've always felt the addition of the Brotherhood of Guardians, the Dark Legion, and the other echidna characters actually made sense in regards to Knuckles since it gave him a sense of origin and place in Mobius.  That and the fact him being the ONLY echidna on Mobius sounded ludicrous at the outset...

I thought the idea of Knuckles being amongst the last of his kind is what made him such a fascinating character in the first place. Considering (in the game canon) that his tribe was wiped away by Chaos ages ago, it makes you wonder what became of the Echidnas in order for Knuckles to exist and continue on guarding the Master Emerald.

 

I wouldn't mind seeing an occasional Echinda every-so-often (like Athiar's appearance in "Underground") or a surviving community of them (like the Nocturnus Clan), just to show the species isn't fully extinct, but having entire cities populated by them kinda diminishes the importance of Knuckles' role. Not only that, but nearly all of Penders' Echidnas looked the same, so it made Knuckles look less unique and more generic.

Someone suggested they may not restore Knuckle's memories and he will not remember what he lost. It would be a moment as sad as it is stupid. I REALLY hope it doesn't come to that.

Oh... it's going to happen.. ... Besides, since I've saw Knuckles in the background of the new issue #258.. and she's not there.

 

My thoughts of this will might happen in the story:

 

Knuckles is walking by near Sonic and then they start having conversations.

 

Knuckles: Sonic! How are you?

 

Sonic: I'm doing fine. Me and Tails just change the world again. And things are looking better then ever!

 

Knuckles: That's good to hear!

 

Sonic: So how is your girlfriend Julie-Su? Is she okay?

 

Knuckles [Confused]: Julie-Su? Who is she? And what girlfriend? You know I don't have a girlfriend. I'm kinda shy of girls. You know me.  

 

Sonic [Shocked]: What? She's not in our world?...

 

Knuckles: Sonic?... Are you alright? Are you playing games with me again?

 

Sonic: Yea... I'm fine. And I'm not playing games with you.. never mind what I've said. I'd better go..

 

Sonic walks away.

 

Sonic [Thinking]: I guess she doesn't existence here... Oh, well... I'm sure one day Knuckles will fine somebody... I guess.

 

End.

I don't think it'll happen. Unless they ask Ken Penders for permission.

 

Maybe Nicole will explain Sonic that Julie-Su doesn't existence in their new world... yep. Sad.

Julie-Su might not be coming back, but there could be a spiritual successor. If it weren't for the ongoing lawsuit between Penders and Sega/Bioware, it probably would be Shade, but we don't know how long that'll last. But there is someone else.

What if the comics take inspiration from STC Online and bring back Tikal? Like maybe, a upcoming disaster summons her to the present day to aid the Freedom Fighters with the power of Chaos. And while Knuckles is away (as in most recent games), Tikal could be guarding the M.E. shrine from intruders for him. And unlike Knuckles' rather shallow relationship with Julie-Su (no offense), a friendship between Tikal and Knuckles seems a bit more amusing; Tikal's pacifistic beliefs and gentle demeanor vs. Knuckles' rough-and-tough attitude. But despite their differences, they're amongst the last of their kind and need to pull themselves together in order to continue their sworn duty.

Least, that's how I would do it. Who knows what Ian has planned for the future?

I admit there might be more potential in a replacement with a different personality. With no offense to her fans, there isn't a lot of distinction in terms of personality between Knux and Julie Su. She's basically the same character but with a bit of the 'more level headed female' archetype added on, basically the Daisy Duck of echidnas (though a concept like her might have had more potential in the comedic medias). While she had some good moments, there wasn't really a lot she could do that couldn't have Knuckles in her place, a possible reason he often ended up Demoted To Extra outside the times they were together.

 

Using Tikal who at least opposes Knuckles in a much more extreme level (pacifistic and shy, to the point of near doormat levels) at least has more potential in terms of an individual character. Shade might have potential, though granted she doesn't really have much of a personality to determine this from.

My opinion was that Knuckles may be the last of his kind, but that doesn't mean Echidna.  There could be many Echidna's out there, but Knuckles is probably the last of his tribe, and the last on Angel Island. 

 

 

THAT would work better!  It also works well in connection to what we saw in Sonic Adventure, so there'd be a connection to the games that was not shoehorned in like Cream and Marine seem to be.

 

As for bringing Julie-Su back...I think the only way that'd happen is if Penders was taken care of like this:

 

"Mr. Penders.  The only reason those characters exist at all is that you created them in relation to a comic based on a character owned by Sega.  As such, you pretty owe Sega for having them exist at all.  I suggest you drop any pretense of supposedly 'owning' these characters immediately and let Archie do as they please with them since THEY were given permission to do a Sonic based comic...and you as an individual were not.  We would be willing to grant you license to make your little comic as long as you include the Sega badge and pay us for the proper license...but unless you wish to be in jail for copyright infringement, I suggest you stop with this legal nonsense."

 

But, since Sega dropped the ball on this by not asserting their claim in relation to their Sonic copyright because they apparently don't care about any characters that are not directly related to the game, this is unlikely.

I guess this isn't the point of this topic... but I am the exact opposite. I thought It was the greatest news of all that she would never come back. If I made a top one million of sonic characters she wouldn't even make honorable mentions. In fact I like Shade, the one they consider a cheep knock off of her, as a better character.

 

Now I'm not one of the people who think all the Enchidnas are Knuckles clones. I LIKE them. I even LIKE the evil ones. Heck, I even liked KNEECAPS! It's just Julie-Su that I really don't like. She reads to me like someone tried to hard to cover-up thier Mary-Su fanfic love interest for Knux. Julie-Su spends to much time talking and acting tough only to break down into the weak-link on the team when it's her turn to shine. So on top of losing all points in character she is attached to Knuckles who is my favorite character. If I knew Knux personally I would seriously advise him to rethink that. She fights with his friends, she does not allow him to grow, she has more baggage then Black Widow, and when she needs to be clever she shoots things. She literally holds his character back because people just made their relationship permanent and Knux character never gets fully explored because Julie-Su's on his arm. 

 

I'm not saying you can't like Julie-Su. Really. I'm just saying she has no character appeal for me. In fact she has negative points in character appeal. I was kinda going "YAY! I'll never have to see her again! :D" Again, those are my opinions and you do not, and probably don't share them. 

 

But I'll be honest. The only character I like less is Lara-Su. 

 

Just representing my small majority. I thought I'd speak up since you where saying the game cannon only people hate her. I love the games, true, but I love the comics and satam characters too.

Oh God! I'm sick of tired that some people compares Julie-Su or Sally to Mary-Sue. Where have you been?!

 

I've grown up reading the comic back then and she ain't no Mary-Sue... and she's much more appearing then Rouge and Tikal. I never seen a tough, bad-@$$, tomboy echidna character that can be so quite appearing since I was a child. Never forgot she is a quite shooter  And she's also very caring character.. you just don't know a thing about her. 

 

She may be gone, but she'll always be alive in our hearts.
