@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 11:25 AM)

Also I still have to figure out how to set up our e-mail accounts on the new host.

@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 08:19 AM)

As soon as I figure out how to restore it. Sorry, I know I said it'd be done by now, but I didn't expect to have to put up with this DNS crap and other issues that popped up.

@  Uncle Ben : (24 July 2015 - 07:56 AM)

So when's the black theme coming back??

@  Uncle Ben : (24 July 2015 - 07:56 AM)

"Should"

@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 07:27 AM)

That DNS took longer to propagate properly than I thought it would. *Now* we should be back for good, though.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 08:48 PM)

Or it might be because Bluehost *finally* got around to that server wipe (one week after we'd asked for it) and that wiped out our DNS settings. I'm not sure which and I don't really care. In any case, we've severed our last ties with Bluehost, so this will not happen again.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 08:08 PM)

Looks like Bluehost yanked our DNS since our hosting account expired. That's why the site went down a while ago. But as you can see, it's fixed now.

@  Misk : (23 July 2015 - 04:55 PM)

No, they do not.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 04:27 AM)

The goggles do nothing?

@  Misk : (22 July 2015 - 05:50 PM)

My eyes.

@  furrykef : (22 July 2015 - 12:24 PM)

Looks like forum uploads might have been broken since last night. That should be fixed now too.

@  furrykef : (22 July 2015 - 01:33 AM)

Heh, whoops! Server went down for a few mins when I borked the config. Looks like it's back up now.

@  Uncle Ben : (21 July 2015 - 09:09 PM)

It looked like a napkin

@  ILOVEVHS : (21 July 2015 - 09:04 PM)

Fan-fuckin-tastic.

@  furrykef : (21 July 2015 - 08:25 PM)

As for the beaver picture while the forum was down, I think Tim drew it. On a napkin.

@  furrykef : (21 July 2015 - 08:24 PM)

No kiddin' about that "Finally!", Shadow. I am *so mad* at Bluehost for never responding to our support ticket. I submitted it early Friday morning and they *still* haven't answered it!

@  Uncle Ben : (21 July 2015 - 06:37 PM)

Maybe he did that himself

@  Shadow : (21 July 2015 - 05:25 PM)

Say, who made the cute picture of Beaver Chief?

@  Shadow : (21 July 2015 - 05:24 PM)

Finally!

@  RedMenace : (21 July 2015 - 05:02 PM)

Woooo! The site's back up! Three cheers for Kef!

Prey: 10/10. Kinda like Doom meets Duke Nukem. I like the snarky comments from the hero, the weapons, and the ability to get killed and come right back and kill the mother****er who killed you. Plus, stuff like taking a boss monster's weapon by cutting off its arm with a forcefield. Best way to get a gatling gun/grenade launcher combo ever! And instead of some lame pistol or otherwise seroulsly underpowered weapon, your default gun is a combination sniper/assult rifle.

That sounds like a lot of fun! ^.^

Assassin's Creed: Unity- 9/10

I experienced no problems with this game. I think Arno Dorian is the best Assassin since Ezio

Some say that he knows 2 facts about ducks, and both of them are wrong. And that 61 years ago he accidentally introduced Her Majesty The Queen to a Greek racialist. All we know is, I'm going to the tower now to have my head cut off, and he is called The Stig.

Far Cry 4: 8/10

I was very disappointed in Pagan Min as the villain of the game he had to live up to Vaas but he couldnt live up to the high standard his predecessor established

I found a copy on Amazon. Not sure if it's widely avalible in stores. Never saw it at Wally World... I think it's a fun game and I'm more of a casual gamer. I love it when I can beat a game on a system devoid of cheats. The "infinite lives" aspect helps al lot. And unlike a lot of shooters out there these days, you have a health bar. There is a bit of "run around the corner and let the main gun recharge then pop out and kill the badguy" stuff, but for the most part, I think that's just me being a bad shot and having wasted the rocket launcher. Did I mention that the alternate fire for the rocket launcher is a cloud of musk that stops incoming shots? That's a real lifesaver, so long as you don't shoot the cloud with a rocket. You have to treat it like an obstical, because it'll block your own weaons, too. Additional points for not having to wait for save spots.

Super Mario Bros. 3 - 6/10

I guess I'm really not a fan of 2D Mario games. I despise Mario 1 and Lost Levels, I'm indifferent towards Mario 2 USA, this game and World are okay for me, and I don't care about New anymore.

If I want to play a classic 2D Mario game...I'll probably just settle for Super Paper Mario. Next best thing.

Only 6/10 for SMB3? You're weird, man.

I can't stand SMB3 anymore, but only because I've played it so many times I know just about every nook and cranny by heart. I still remember when I decided to sit through the NES version from beginning to end in one long sitting. No wonder Super Mario All-Stars added a save function.

Yes, I am weird, thanks.

I can never properly sit down and play through a 2D Mario game anymore. I keep getting bored.

I can't even stand beating Mario LAND in one sitting.

VHS is a spoiled kid. He has to have his fancy 3d graphics and all those other bells and whistles... This is the kind of societal degredation that I keep warning people about. You should have to earn bells and whistles. Play the older 2d games when you're yongeer and only get access to more modern games as you age. But noooo... People these days think that's a form of child cruelty or something...

There's a video of a father who made his kid play every console from Atari to the PS4. He had to beat one game from each console before he could go to the next.

Afterwards the kid had a huge appreciation for the classics

I'll have you know that I love lots of classic 2D games. Mega Man 1, 2, and 3, the 8 bit Kirby games, hell, I wouldn't be on this site if I never bought Sonic CD.

I watched AVGN at a young age too, so from all of the rare occasions he reviewed GOOD games I always wanted a NES over the Wii, PS3 and 360.

I'm not bashing 2D retro games, I was just sharing why I don't enjoy SPECIFICALLY the 2D Mario games as much as everyone else.

What's all this 2D graphics hooey? Bah, you whipper snappers don't know how good you have it with your TV screens and your 8-bit colour and your scrolling backgrounds and your bleep bloop noises. Back in my day, we had to walk 15 miles through 15 feet of snow so we could borrow the PDP-10 on campus to play Zork for half an hour. We hads to use our 'maginations! *waves cane*

Now someone get me nurse, I've soiled meself again.

Play the older 2d games when you're yongeer and only get access to more modern games as you age.

Save for the fact that many of the older games are hard, frustratingly so.  A lot of younger gamers are turned away from the difficulty of these games.

And yes I am well aware that difficulty isn't a bad thing, but no kid picks up games like Castlevania or Contra easily, and no kid is going to enjoy constant losing.  Gamers should only play games that fall within their interests.  If the 2D graphics are unappealing, don't waste your time with it.

Dragon Age III: Inquisition- 9/10. This was a much better game and a vast improvement compared to II. While i'm upset they wont bring back the Ranger class for Rouge, its something i can deal with.

The ending however... that left me with more questions than answers

Plus how they handled Dorian and Sora was fantastic

That's what the Game Genie is for, silly. And cheat codes. Most old games have some nifty cheat codes, to help counter the difficulty settings. I'm not completely sadistic. I just want them to all experience what us older gamers did back in the day. Back when Link couldn't spin-slash or when bomb arrows were a glitch, and you needed a game guide to get through the magical forest. And screw the old castlevenia games. I couldn't beat them WITH the Game Genie. And some games were actually forever, like RC Pro Am. You'd just have to give up at some point, or play until the game crashed. There was no winning condition in some of the old NES games. Only a high score.

Metroid Other M -

Gameplay - 8/10
Story - 2/10

It's odd that I like this game so much. Typically, a bad story can ruin even great games for a few people. But the gameplay, for me at least, overshadowed it. And there's nothing that really makes me mad in either Story or Gameplay.

Hyrule Warriors - 10/10

HO-LY SHIT.

This games kicks all kinds of ass! I'm happy to finally get a Zelda game that follows an easier gameplay style than puzzles and adventure. Not to say that style is bad, I just prefer these type of games.

Favorite characters to use are Cia, Ganondorf and Twili Midna.

Dragon's Crown (PS3) 9/10

Been having a lot of fun playing this game (in spite of the Amazon's "ghetto booty" being an eyesore)!

It kinda reminds me of Golden Axe, but with RPG elements like quests and abilities; and it gets even better when you unlock the ability to use runestones (some of which allow you to find hidden areas or get more loot).  "Couch co-op" is a big plus for us cuz my husband can drop in & help me kick butt whenever he feels like it (definitely better than the stupid NCPs!).

I haven't beaten it yet, but so far my only complaints involve the artwork (*points to the resurrection scene in Caanan Temple* Those are the -ugliest- cherubs I have ever seen!) and the NCPs (bad AI, crappy gear most of the time, the inability to give 'em better gear, and good NCPs quickly becoming ineffective as you level up.)

Pokemon Alpha Sapphire - 10/10

An awesome game to me, mainly for the improvements over X and Y, and a large dose of Nostalgia towards Gen 3, my first Pokemon Gen I beat.
