Why does ANY show get cancelled? There's plenty of reasons. Low ratings, change in managment at the network, creative issues, budget reasons and so on.
Thing is, we'll probably never, ever get the real reason as to why SatAM was cancelled. We may hear a reason, but that could be a lie for all truely know.
Take Comedy Central for example, when they cancelled Mystery Science Theater 3000 back in 1996, they said it was because of low ratings and that was bullshit because the guys behind the show said the ratings were always good. It was revealed that later on during the Comedy Central years on the show, there was tension between Best Brains (makers of the show) and the network. There was a management change between seasons 6 and 7 (the last to air on CC) and the Brains tried to rebuild the bridge and get on with this new management team, but it didn't work. Plus there was the trouble of budget. When the show first started, getting movies wasn't a problem but when the show started making a name of itself, owners of the movies demanded more and more money. This made getting some movies impossible or movies that had been shown had to be taken off the reruns schedule because they couldn't afford to pay the new license fee. It was the same reason MST3K ended when they went to the Sci-Fi channel, change of people at the network and the high cost of licensing movies, but never had anything to do with the ratings.
A show can be popular, but if it's not as popular as a network thinks it should be, that can lead to it being cancelled. Or it might just be when there's a change at the network, they might want to bring in their own ideas for shows and some will have to make the way.
SatAM may have gotten solid number, but it wasn't the higgest rating, it pretty much says it was #9 in it's timeslot, meaning 8 other shows outdid it. Think of it this way, ABC have an animated series to one of the hottest properties at the time and it's getting out done by the likes of EEK the Cat, Garfield and Power Rangers.
'Star Wars' is my story, just like my house is my house. So if I wanna paint my house green, even if everyone else thinks it should be red, guess what? I'm gonna paint it Jar Jar! - George Lucas
"The Devil Inside is the new scam from director William Something Something. The movie stars actors and was edited on a computer. Somewhere. This movie is the latest film in a series of very low budget films designed to look like real movies! And be released in theaters to make a quick buck via a horribly off kilter budget to profit ratio that the general public seem to be stupidly unaware of! These films use to be called 'direct to video' but now they are called 'first run features'. These films then vanish from the theaters, like a rapist leaving the scene of a crime." - Mike Stoklasa of RedLetterMedia
