With Gamescom 2012 underway, SEGA has recently released twelve new screenshots for the PS3/Xbox 360 versions of Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed showcasing a variety of the game’s tracks and vehicles.

While I'll admit the graphics for this game is very impressive looking and vivid, it's still pretty sad Sega invests in something like this. Sonic driving a race car or any souped up vehicle for that matter is just plain silly to me. The dude can run over 700+ MPH on foot, so what's the point of this?

Maybe if they made it so Sonic and Shadow raced on foot and the others competed in vehicles since they're not as fast might work, but who knows?

It's a kart racing game. So they're in karts. And planes and boats.

Basically it's SEGA's answer to Mario Kart 7.

Amazingly they had the premise before MK7 (and the execution is REALLY different.) They freaked out when they saw the trailer.

Although, after seeing someone parody Sonic drift from one of the Sonic shorts, it just makes me wonder why Sega even bothers to try and make their own racing game when their mascot is faster than a land speed record vehicle.

If they ran on foot, it wouldn't be fair to the other competitors. Sonic likes a fair challenge, but he also likes to play by the rules (unless he "has" to cheat).

Funny, people always complain about Sonic in a car. What about Mario? For a plump plummer, he can jump like a flea. I'm surprised he was allowed to participate in the Olympic long-jumps.

Technically I think he's in the car to give everyone else a chance to win.

He's in the car because it's a car racing game. If you really need an explanation, you can say that Sonic likes being the fastest at everything (as Sonic Riders said) or you can say it's to make the competition fair. But at the end of the day, it's because with this kind of game you just have them use neat vehicles. I doubt anybody would want a racing game where Sonic, a character whose platforming gameplay makes him about three times as fast as any of the other characters, played entirely differently and could easily win every round.

I played a demo of the first one, and after just two races I thought it felt pretty good. I'm not usually a fan of racing games, but I'd look in to getting a used copy of this, or once it gets a price drop.

It's got Vyse from Skies of Arcadia in it. Why wouldn't you try it?

You know, I've tried not to bring this up, but...
The first racer to put in classics (Earthworm Jim, Wart, Rayman, Excitebike, Pacman) alongside their standard racers will be the only game I will ever own. Nobody cares for these guys anymore...
