@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 11:25 AM)

Also I still have to figure out how to set up our e-mail accounts on the new host.

@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 08:19 AM)

As soon as I figure out how to restore it. Sorry, I know I said it'd be done by now, but I didn't expect to have to put up with this DNS crap and other issues that popped up.

@  Uncle Ben : (24 July 2015 - 07:56 AM)

So when's the black theme coming back??

@  Uncle Ben : (24 July 2015 - 07:56 AM)

"Should"

@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 07:27 AM)

That DNS took longer to propagate properly than I thought it would. *Now* we should be back for good, though.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 08:48 PM)

Or it might be because Bluehost *finally* got around to that server wipe (one week after we'd asked for it) and that wiped out our DNS settings. I'm not sure which and I don't really care. In any case, we've severed our last ties with Bluehost, so this will not happen again.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 08:08 PM)

Looks like Bluehost yanked our DNS since our hosting account expired. That's why the site went down a while ago. But as you can see, it's fixed now.

@  Misk : (23 July 2015 - 04:55 PM)

No, they do not.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 04:27 AM)

The goggles do nothing?

@  Misk : (22 July 2015 - 05:50 PM)

My eyes.

@  furrykef : (22 July 2015 - 12:24 PM)

Looks like forum uploads might have been broken since last night. That should be fixed now too.

@  furrykef : (22 July 2015 - 01:33 AM)

Heh, whoops! Server went down for a few mins when I borked the config. Looks like it's back up now.

@  Uncle Ben : (21 July 2015 - 09:09 PM)

It looked like a napkin

@  ILOVEVHS : (21 July 2015 - 09:04 PM)

Fan-fuckin-tastic.

@  furrykef : (21 July 2015 - 08:25 PM)

As for the beaver picture while the forum was down, I think Tim drew it. On a napkin.

@  furrykef : (21 July 2015 - 08:24 PM)

No kiddin' about that "Finally!", Shadow. I am *so mad* at Bluehost for never responding to our support ticket. I submitted it early Friday morning and they *still* haven't answered it!

@  Uncle Ben : (21 July 2015 - 06:37 PM)

Maybe he did that himself

@  Shadow : (21 July 2015 - 05:25 PM)

Say, who made the cute picture of Beaver Chief?

@  Shadow : (21 July 2015 - 05:24 PM)

Finally!

@  RedMenace : (21 July 2015 - 05:02 PM)

Woooo! The site's back up! Three cheers for Kef!

Merchandising deals can make Sonic the Hedgehog as iconic as Hello Kitty.

Sega is knuckling down on its four major IPs as part of its recent restructure, with priorities to push into digital and licensing.

For Sonic, the latter means signing up more third parties to make associated toys, clothing and other gear.

And the famous company mascot could be as ubiquitous as Sanrio’s cute cat, explained Jurgen Post, COO of Sega Europe.

“Sonic is a well-known character, but we’ve got a lot of room to grow in merchandising,” he told MCV.

“We dream of Hello Kitty. We’re still far off from that but we can see that our profits are growing year on year in the US and Europe [on merchandising].

“We’ve got a licensing team on the ground in the UK who are focusing on that and that team will expand. We’ve got a team in the US and which will also expand. We used to run it all out of Sega of Japan, but having people on the ground is making a big difference.

“We will always do the computer game but the merchandising is a very important aspect to Sonic.”

Kinda odd of a comparison with Sonic and Hello Kitty, but since both franchises are well known I guess it's no surprise.

....as long as the games aren't going to be designed to sell toys.

I don't know whether to chuckle or shrug my shoulders at this news.

I admit I don't know just how popular Hello Kitty is, but if Sega really wants that kind of popularity... well, they definitely won't get it the way they're going.

Mediocre games and a very controversial comic book series... Posted Image

Nah, My Little Pony fans have already cornered that market with fleshlights.

I think Sega is trying to finish the. Giant war with Nintendo by drowning out Mario with sonic merchandise. I've seen tons of Mario Gear, and very little sonic stuff, and it seems they are trying to overdo it.
But mario knows how to swim.

I don't think SEGA can call it much of a war anymore considering they don't have their own systems anymore.

However Sonic and Mario are still trying to outdo each other every so often.

And since they failed at consoles, they're trying to make up for it in merchandise. I am a Tails fan, but you won't see me walking about with a tails hat on...just two fox tails keychained to my back. Belt loop....

What would be the best route to go here? Try to focus on the younger age group only, like Hello Kitty, or try to appeal to both the young and the older fan bases? There was a huge downwards trend years ago, but the bleeding has stopped and I'd say Sonic is back on the way up (although still with a long, long ways to go before anywhere close to his popularity in the 90s). SEGA has a decent opportunity here to really get Sonic going again... I'm interested in seeing how this next year or so plays out for them.

Action figures....

They already do action figures and have a pretty extensive line of them mostly focusing on the games though. A real missed opportunity though is the comic 2-pack sets, a sepcial set which has 2 action figures and a reprinted copy of a random Archie issue. A good idea here would be to have one of the figures as a standard Sega character and the second "exclusive" figure being a character from the comic that you can only get in this 2-pack. They could do it as an experiment to see how well these figures sets sell, seeing the potential interest (and profit) the comic characters can make,

It'll never happen though and if I does, I will be honestly surprised.

I do remember when. All the gaming magazines declared "sonic is dead. Sega is parading around in his skin. Essentially, they're beating a dead hedgehog."
Now, its up and down.

The thing is since the first 3D Sonic Game fans have been divided on if they like or dislike Sonic. Some like 2D, Some like 3D, some just like making fun of Sonic.

I have the same opinion in the whole quote. I only could add I can wear a Sonic or Tails T-shirt with friends and some special moments, because they already know my feelings about Sonic things.

I have the same feeling about Castlevania. For me Castlevania is a 2D game, not a 3D, I played it only 20 mins on 3D, and I won't play it again. I love Castlevania, but only 2D, and I'm sure my feelings about Sonic would be the same if Sonic Adventure hadn't exist.

About Sonic merchandising...yeah, is getting very strong. I never had been interesting of Sonic merchandising, but now I want a lot of things about it. like

this: http://www.sonicmerc.../sonic-sos.html

and this http://www.sonicmerc...senger-bag.html (I'm looking for a bag like this for carry my laptop to my web dessing class)

My opinion is they are doing nice, because I never wanted something that is not a game from Sonic, and now I want some things like I showed or a keychained.

lol...

T-shirt can embarrasse me in some moments...I don't know the name you use exactily for a certain social group, I'm not sure if the word is "douchebag", but well...when a certain person of a certain social group not stop looking at me...anyway I don't care so much and I'm sure I will have the same feelings if I buy the bag for my laptop...but I never, repeat never...I can go with a Sonic or Tails hag walking in the streets...maybe if I go to a Sonic convection or anything similar, I can bought one of tails and carry it ONLY in the convection and later keep like a reminder in my house.
