@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 11:25 AM)

Also I still have to figure out how to set up our e-mail accounts on the new host.

@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 08:19 AM)

As soon as I figure out how to restore it. Sorry, I know I said it'd be done by now, but I didn't expect to have to put up with this DNS crap and other issues that popped up.

@  Uncle Ben : (24 July 2015 - 07:56 AM)

So when's the black theme coming back??

@  Uncle Ben : (24 July 2015 - 07:56 AM)

"Should"

@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 07:27 AM)

That DNS took longer to propagate properly than I thought it would. *Now* we should be back for good, though.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 08:48 PM)

Or it might be because Bluehost *finally* got around to that server wipe (one week after we'd asked for it) and that wiped out our DNS settings. I'm not sure which and I don't really care. In any case, we've severed our last ties with Bluehost, so this will not happen again.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 08:08 PM)

Looks like Bluehost yanked our DNS since our hosting account expired. That's why the site went down a while ago. But as you can see, it's fixed now.

@  Misk : (23 July 2015 - 04:55 PM)

No, they do not.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 04:27 AM)

The goggles do nothing?

@  Misk : (22 July 2015 - 05:50 PM)

My eyes.

@  furrykef : (22 July 2015 - 12:24 PM)

Looks like forum uploads might have been broken since last night. That should be fixed now too.

@  furrykef : (22 July 2015 - 01:33 AM)

Heh, whoops! Server went down for a few mins when I borked the config. Looks like it's back up now.

@  Uncle Ben : (21 July 2015 - 09:09 PM)

It looked like a napkin

@  ILOVEVHS : (21 July 2015 - 09:04 PM)

Fan-fuckin-tastic.

@  furrykef : (21 July 2015 - 08:25 PM)

As for the beaver picture while the forum was down, I think Tim drew it. On a napkin.

@  furrykef : (21 July 2015 - 08:24 PM)

No kiddin' about that "Finally!", Shadow. I am *so mad* at Bluehost for never responding to our support ticket. I submitted it early Friday morning and they *still* haven't answered it!

@  Uncle Ben : (21 July 2015 - 06:37 PM)

Maybe he did that himself

@  Shadow : (21 July 2015 - 05:25 PM)

Say, who made the cute picture of Beaver Chief?

@  Shadow : (21 July 2015 - 05:24 PM)

Finally!

@  RedMenace : (21 July 2015 - 05:02 PM)

Woooo! The site's back up! Three cheers for Kef!

True. Something OTHER then deleting a whole game from the timeline....that also has bad loading time.

Can't justly judge Sonic 06. Haven't played it yet. I HAVE seen the cutscenes, though. It...doesn't bode well. I see potential, but that's about all I see...

Well storywise it is good up till the ending. And the loading times are just brutal. Sometimes it loads just to load.

Anyways....what about new characters that are introduced but aren't getting enough panel time such as Shade from Dark Brotherhood?

Ok, we NEED another Chronicles game! F the storybook series, F the Rush series, give us another Chronicles! Talk about potential...I especially wonder what they can do with Tails...he's become more independent, actually developed something of a FRIENDSHIP with Robotnik...what if in the next game Tails turns on the team? Not out of character, but as more of a "I think Robotnik's doing good" mentality...also, you can reintroduce the idea of freedom fighters!

And...I don't have as much of an opinion on newer characters. Blaze is Shadow in a dress, Silver is...wasted potential/annoying, Shade should stay with the Chronicle games, Chip sucks, and Big can burn in hell.

I liked Blaze on the note that she has potential. Shadow is more Sonic without morals....Guns...swearing...killing....while Blaze is more of an outcast, being picked on all her life so she doesn't trust anyone. Of course after Rush....she's Shadow in drag.

I liked Chronicle's Story...but not the gameplay. Sure Sonic is fast but three turns of attack? Seriously?

Fun fact: Shadow was originally going to be a female character...AKA Blaze. They revisited the idea for Rush. So in actuality...Blaze IS Shadow in drag...

I liked the gameplay, but it got repetitive after a while. The thing is, I SUCK at most turn based RPG's, but love their stories. So Chronicles let me get through relatively easily, which I like. When I play an RPG it's DEFINITELY for the story...

Wow, leave a topic sit for a day, instantly get bombed with all kinds of hate for Bark and Bean. When I said that Bark would have been a better fit for Team Rose, I meant that as a generic power house type character, he would have fit the bill. I believe characteristically Big hates fighting anyway (too busy shoving Froggy up his ass) so as the Power character in Team Rose it didn't seem a good fit. As far as Bark and Bean being lifeless characters, to say nothing of Mighty and Ray; that would be the entire point of this topic. The four of them were put in, lesse here...

Bean: 1
Bark:1
Ray: 1
Mighty:2

An average 1.25 games between the four of them. And yet Nack/Fang, who gets all this love apparently, has only been in.

Sonic Triple Touble
Sonic the Fighters (Same as Bark and Bean's ONE game)
Sonic Drift 2

Wow, a whole ONE more game than Mighty! Now i'm not trying to lump the hate on Nack, who's actually a pretty cool character. I am merely stating that he had just as much potential to be a good character as any other of the Classic Sonic Cannon. I for one think it's a bit unfair to lump all this praise on a character that merely got a lucky break in the sequel lottery. I contend that given a good enough oppurtunity, all four of the afformentioned characters could have been just as good. I actually liked Mighty in Knuckles Chaotix (where the hell did they get that title?) and thought Sonc the Arcade was a fairly impressive game. Yes, Ray was a cookie cutter character like the ones i've been decrying but recall that this was an arcade machine and the characters had to play somewhat similar. I also like Shadow and Silver (Silver to a lesser degree) and think more could have been done with them to make the characters themselves a little more interesting. I'm not saying that any one character is terrible over all (even though I HATE Big), just that I think they ALL should have been given a fair shake. If anyone cares to explain the whole thing behind all the love Nack gets i'm more than wiling to hear it.

In the games that Fang are in, he shows much more than Mighty. In Mighty's two games, we learned that he can jump and has all the same stats as Sonic. That's about it, and that's not interesting at all. He doesn't have any more potential than a blank slate or an entirely new character, so why lament that he doesn't get more screentime? There's no real deal with "fairness" here: some characters were reused. Some weren't. That's just how it went, and there's no requirements for things to have gone another way.

Everything about Sonic Chronicles was terrible. Just terrible.

Really? I really loved Sonic Chronicles...oh well, we all like different things...

I don't love or hate any of those characters more. (Except Big. HATE!) I just wish that instead of coming up with more characters they'd reinvent the old characters. Why create another rival when you can bring back Mighty and get old school fans excited? Know what I mean?

As for Nack/Fang, I just think he's interesting because he's an antihero that STAYS an antihero. Shadow started helping Sonic, Silver turned out to ALWAYS be good, Knuckles was tricked...it's the same thing every character...but Fang, he never turned good, yet he never turned bad. He just wants riches. That's what makes him cool/

Why bring back Mighty when you can make someone new to fit the new role? Most people don't remember Mighty or Ray even existed, and they're not exactly great material for a story. There's nothing that makes them better than anyone else except that they're old, and even then they're not exactly from the old MAIN line of games.

Well, for one there are people out there that remember and love Mighty...for some reason. And yes, there isn't anything specifically unique to any of them in the old games. And again, you're right that they aren't in the main games (Except Sonic Generations.). But...if they INSIST on creating new characters anyways, why not give the few that slipped the cracks a chance to shine? They already got the basic designs, so it'd save some time. Yes, you'd need to give them some personality, but it sorta worked for Team Chaotix. My point is, if they could give most of the Chaotix another chance to shine, they could at least try to give the other forgotten characters a chance too.

Creating Characters cost money. Reusing old characters costs less.

That is in no way true when it comes to the revamp process you're talking about. It cost them no more money to make Chip than it would to use Mighty.

Actually it does. Not on a huge scale though. But for characters that are new they actually have to run tests to see if fans will like the character. Old characters they don't have to. Mighty and Fang already have fan bases and just announcing their return would bring fans to buy the game. A new character is iffy....fans can either embrace them (Shadow) or wish the plague upon them (Big).

However you are right that the costs overall aren't that much of a difference compared with what they are making.

The whole point I was trying to make with this topic is that these characters have just as much potential as the newer cast. As was previously stated, if some characters get to return and shine, why not others as well? The posters in Sonic Generations were a great nod to the few people that remembered Mighty and Ray, as well as Bean and Fang making appearences (I think Bark was in there too somewhere). But to be truly fair to these characters more could be done. Hell, even background roles could be great (Bean being a maniacal inventor alongside Tails' straightman perhaps?). Not saying every character needs thier own game, but everyone should get a chance to shine, especailly with an ensemble cast like Sonic's.

This reboot rumor has me wondering what SEGA is planning on doing. Their track record isn't exactlly spotless, and i'm more than a little worried about the resulting game(s). They tried this before with Sonic 06, and that game was a travesty (I still bought it last night to finish out my playthrough and get some more achievements).

i try not to assume things unless they come from a somewhat official source at least. So as far as the reboot thing goes, i'm not really throwing my hat in the ring. I would like to see a game that had the look of Sonic 06 without the godawful loading screens and terrible controls. That game looked fantastic while playing like warmed over shit. But either way... It would be nice to see some of these characters get a little more screen time in future Sonic releases, yes the posters in Sonic Generations were a nice nod to long running fans of the series, but I want more damnit! At least i'd like to see what updated character art would look like.
