1. Blast to the past,
now some people like myself like this episode because the writing is so good and the animation is so good. I mean story wise it gives us and shows us how and why things happened the way they did and why the freedom fighters are doing what they're doing in the present day. It even surprises us with a few revelations. One of those revelations being that it was Sonic's uncle that invented the robotizer that could turn living flesh and blood into mindless machines and servants. And of course the second revelation was the fact that Sally's own father known as King Max was the one that brought Robotnik in and trusted him to do exactly what he hoped he would do and that's when the war against the enemy, which if you read the comic book was a group of human beings known as Overlanders. We also find out that Robotnik's real name is Julian and that Snively is his nephew.
Again I have nothing against this episode as do a lot of fans have nothing against this episode. But there are those that feel that this indeed is overrated and they also feel that too many plot holes will left after this episode and that continuity wise Sonic and Sally left too many clues of them being from the future behind in the past. Another complaint is how they sort of altered and changed history in the past to coincide with the present. For example Sally telling their nanny who is named Rosie not to leave Knothole Village, due to the fact that as she tells Sonic after Rosie leaves that Rosie when they were kids gets captured & turned into a robot by their enemy. Now in my humble opinion and I'm sure some people would agree with this, Sally did this because Rosie is like the only closest thing to her actual family that she has left, and as a fan I believe this is why this happened. One other complaint some fans is with the fact that when Sonic spun around Robotnik and caused Robotnik's left arm and hand to fall into the robotizer and get changed into being cybernetic/mechanical, the complaint they have is Robotnik should have known that in the present day or remembered that actually in the present day and reminded Sonic of what he did, this of course going back to the complaint that Sonic and Sally left clues of themselves being from the future/the present day in the past.
Now these complaints I will say from an unbiased perspective are on valid points. However there has not been one time travel episode in animation or live-action that even though the good guys will do something or several things that will coincide with similar situations in the future it does not mean sometimes that the villain characters or even the fellow good guy characters will recall how it all happened because sometimes time travel is written for only those that went through time to remember and those who weren't involved with the time travel to forget. But again from an unbiased standpoint I have to say that they do have some valid points.
My only complaint about this if anything, is the fact that they didn't start the second season with this two-part episode. Because in my opinion this would have made a great beginning to the second season and given us right off the bat the understanding of why the freedom fighters are battling Robotnik in the first place. And the reason I say this is because the first season was more of the introductory season and the second season was more continuity base with the exception of the two episodes that consisted of 2 11 min. animation shorts that had nothing to do with the continuity. But to me I truly believe that Blast to the Past's only flaw in my opinion was the fact that it did not begin the second season, because you could have easily begun the season with it and continued on after that. To me this was the biggest flaw that Blast to the Past truly had, what with its scheduling and all. Now I'm not saying that other animated or live-action shows have done this before because they have. Yet the same argument is always made that they could have easily done the origin story wither it was time travel orgin story or an actual origin story right at the start of the series and then thrust us right into the rest of the continuity because we already would have had an idea as to why things were happening and occurring the way they were/are.
2. Sonic and the Secret Scrolls,
Depending on how you look at this from the first season, to me this is definitely one of the finest and more adventurous episodes of the first season. As one fellow fan pointed out, one of the strong positive points of this episode is it expands on the planet that the Freedom Fighters live on more than just on the village that they live in and their enemy's territory. It also showed and this is because it was before Dulcy showed up that they are willing to do whatever it takes to find a solution in winning the war against the enemy. Also to me it expanded on the fact that there is more to them than just wearing backpacks equipped with the items they need on their missions, by showing that they can build and create the means of flight transportation to areas that are unreachable for them to reach. The Freedom Stormer I thought was a unique idea because if you were to sell action figures on these characters back in those days just as toy companies did with the likes of Ninja Turtles and Transformers, as well as sell the vehicles and other accessories associated with those characters, their is no doubt that this plane which was a one time deal for this episode and the overall series probably would've sold pretty well. Again though this could've happened if action figures of the characters were sold.
Now some fans do have some complaints of the episode. Some complain that it just didn't make sense in some areas. While others will contest that this episode had no real value with the exception of expanding on the planet and showing other areas of the planet, but also by not having the very Secret Scrolls that the Freedom Fighters went to find being used later on in the second season. In other words they feel the quest for the Secret Scrolls was for not.
Now I don't blame anybody for feeling like this. Because again from an unbiased standpoint they do have some valid points. One fan pointed out that if this episode was nothing more than the Freedom Fighters passing all these tests that they had to pass in order to a obtian the Secret Scrolls and go home that would've been just fine. However some fans complain that if it wasn't for the last test it would've been fine, except the last test was about courage and instead of facing a hologram or an illusion of their enemy, instead it was the real deal who had followed them all the way to this place. Another complaint some do have is the ending of the episode when the enemy is blown off this land if you will which happens to be in the mountains thanks to a huge gust of wind known as the Winds of Mobius, and yet he somehow survives. Now to some fans this does not make any sense because in reality nobody could really survive something like that.
Now if your true fan of the blue hedgehog himself, the one thing you'll like about this episode was how he actually was right about the one major flaw and problem of their new aircraft, and that flaw and problem was that no matter when they flew or how they flew the plane, that their enemy was going to track them down no matter what and as we saw in this episode that's exactly what happened. So again if you're a true fan of his that's probably one part you enjoyed the most, becuase of how he actually was proven right not just once with the plane but how after he saved them on how they will going to land even if they flew off the cliff. So again if you're true fans of Sonic himself you would've liked that probably more than anything.
Again I had no problems with this episode because when I originally saw it, I saw it as an actual season finale before they showed the pilot episode which was the last episode of the season. Again there are those that have the difference of opinions on it and that's okay. And if you're wondering, I think when they got back to the village I think Sonic made the suggestion that offscreen they, "Tear this plane apart." Just saying.
3. The Doomsday Project,
Yes it's hard to believe some people actually have a problem with this one, well many of us including Nostalgia Critic Doug Walker have absolutely no problem with this and thought it was a perfect final episode of the second season. There are those that actually do have a problem with it. One problem is that instead of adding in the Chaos Emeralds, they instead use these magical items known as the Deep Power Stones to defeat Robotnik and destroy the Doomsday machine. And of course the one major problem some fans have is the fact that it's not just Sonic that does this but he does it alongside of Sally, and we all know how certain fans feel about that. In fact some fans that do complain about this episode just feel that having Sonic and Sally do with they did to save the day and the way it was done in all, added up to the point of that time just was plain weird. I mean they even complain about the fact that when Sonic and Sally kiss at the end that there are/is fireworks coming out of the heads, really really?, is that one of the major flaws they have with this episode, really?
Well what do they expect when these two characters absorb this Deep Power Stones power and magic into themselves. I mean what do they expect when the very meaning that these Deep Power Stones do is doing exactly what their supposed to do and that is give both of them incredible power if only for a short temporary time. I mean come on folks, yes I agree that there may be some flaws in the episode and you may have some valid points about those flaws but you can't just stand there or sit there if you will and say one of the major flaws was fireworks coming out of the heads when they kissed at the end. I mean seriously if you want to make a complaint you should look at the major flaw of the fact that we were left on a cliffhanger, which thanks to the new president of ABCs children division and in some ways possibly Sega, we never got that cliffhanger resolved. So again if you want to make any major complaint or flaw it should be about the cliffhanger and not about fireworks coming out of their heads.
Again overall I have nothing against this episode I really didn't. I thought it was good. It had good storytelling in the build up from previous episodes, including the prelude episode "The Void". I thought it had great animation. And overall I thought it had some great action. And yes it even had its moments that we will talk about for years. In fact one moment is when Sally turns the tables on Sonic and wants to see what a kiss will do while they still have the magic and power of the Deep Power Stones within and I think it's also the first time that when she puckers her lips, it looks like she's either wearing clear lipstick or lip gloss, LOL!

Anyway I thought it was a good episode, and honestly I didn't really find any real major flaw with it.Overall this was just an example of some of my upcoming written thoughts and reviews on certain episodes within the Sonic Saturday morning series continuity/show. And yes wither you like reading a wall of text or reading a written version of what I say in another form of media, then buckle in, you're all have a lot of reading to do on these message boards in the near future.
