Just out of curiosity, how far are you into the designs?

Vyse, you might want to go into more details on the personality, less on his appearance and add some weaknesses to the character. As it stands, your character's physical description is too detailed to be put in a sprite and moreover, it has mary sue written all over it.

It's a term that's repeatedly being used in this topic... Basically, someone who's invincible and deus ex machinas and such.

A mary sue is a character that has too many strong points and no weaknesses, mary sue characters usually are written with little or no regard for the context of the world they live in.

Since you're not on the list, you are free to make any last minute changes if that's what you're implying. I do have a concept idea for your character though. But feel free to change it since I haven't started the final concept pics.

Oh, I wasn't implying that, but thanks for putting that out there. I also understand that real life is more important than a little forum project, so don't feel too guilty.

And Vyse, if there's anything I can point out in the whole Mary Sue thing, you can start by toning down your references to other video game and anime characters to describe your own character's appearance. Borrowing directly from those designs and slapping on a cliché Japanese name like "Ryu" (which is up there with Sakura and Raven as one of the most overused OC names EVER) is uncreative and, quite frankly, lazy.

You seem to have put a lot of effort into describing your character, mostly by throwing in a bunch of designs that look Just Plain Cool on paper, but you don't put nearly as much effort into describing his personality, which is much more important when creating a character. You've got a few basic traits down, but does he have any genuine flaws? Does he have his own unique habits and quirks that every person has that makes them unique? What are his likes and dislikes?

It doesn't have to be too detailed, since Viuely's got other characters to juggle around and put into the story, but you could try fleshing that part out just a little bit.
