@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 11:25 AM)

Also I still have to figure out how to set up our e-mail accounts on the new host.

@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 08:19 AM)

As soon as I figure out how to restore it. Sorry, I know I said it'd be done by now, but I didn't expect to have to put up with this DNS crap and other issues that popped up.

@  Uncle Ben : (24 July 2015 - 07:56 AM)

So when's the black theme coming back??

@  Uncle Ben : (24 July 2015 - 07:56 AM)

"Should"

@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 07:27 AM)

That DNS took longer to propagate properly than I thought it would. *Now* we should be back for good, though.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 08:48 PM)

Or it might be because Bluehost *finally* got around to that server wipe (one week after we'd asked for it) and that wiped out our DNS settings. I'm not sure which and I don't really care. In any case, we've severed our last ties with Bluehost, so this will not happen again.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 08:08 PM)

Looks like Bluehost yanked our DNS since our hosting account expired. That's why the site went down a while ago. But as you can see, it's fixed now.

@  Misk : (23 July 2015 - 04:55 PM)

No, they do not.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 04:27 AM)

The goggles do nothing?

@  Misk : (22 July 2015 - 05:50 PM)

My eyes.

@  furrykef : (22 July 2015 - 12:24 PM)

Looks like forum uploads might have been broken since last night. That should be fixed now too.

@  furrykef : (22 July 2015 - 01:33 AM)

Heh, whoops! Server went down for a few mins when I borked the config. Looks like it's back up now.

@  Uncle Ben : (21 July 2015 - 09:09 PM)

It looked like a napkin

@  ILOVEVHS : (21 July 2015 - 09:04 PM)

Fan-fuckin-tastic.

@  furrykef : (21 July 2015 - 08:25 PM)

As for the beaver picture while the forum was down, I think Tim drew it. On a napkin.

@  furrykef : (21 July 2015 - 08:24 PM)

No kiddin' about that "Finally!", Shadow. I am *so mad* at Bluehost for never responding to our support ticket. I submitted it early Friday morning and they *still* haven't answered it!

@  Uncle Ben : (21 July 2015 - 06:37 PM)

Maybe he did that himself

@  Shadow : (21 July 2015 - 05:25 PM)

Say, who made the cute picture of Beaver Chief?

@  Shadow : (21 July 2015 - 05:24 PM)

Finally!

@  RedMenace : (21 July 2015 - 05:02 PM)

Woooo! The site's back up! Three cheers for Kef!

It's not really gone for good because piracy is still an issue. The problem with SOPA wasn't that they're trying to shut down pirating sites, it's that it gave the government too much control over the internet without any system of checks and balances. As a musician myself I support the fight against online piracy but what SOPA had the potential to do is end the internet as we know it and put thousands of people out of work in the process. There are clear issues that need to be addressed...SOPA was just the WRONG WAY to address it.

I agree with ya on -that- much. But, to quote a certain Google article, PIPA and SOPA wouldn't stop piracy, ithey would just get owners of other sites in trouble.

Lamar Smith is at it again.
This time he's cooking up a bill that will, to quote the article, "have your internet service provider tracking all of your financial dealings online."

Definitely the wrong way to handle this. Yeah, piracy is a problem, but thing is that the laws they are trying to pass are like dropping an A-bomb to deal with something that should be handled by a trained professionals You don't tear down your house because of a pest problem, you hire a professional to get rid of the pest while keep the rest of the house safe.

And I agree with PSI hedgehog. SOPA is the Atom Bomb of the Internetz, and they plan on dropping it instead of hiring some kind of hacker to regulate piracy.

I haven't been on for a while, mostly busy.
I'm kind of surprised the video game industry hasn't tried to turn those online passes into something they can use to get money from pirates by authorizing a game for a system if they pay to buy the "Authenticity pass." They could ruin the game for pirates unless they pay. (Make it unplayable, break the game in a number of spots, extra ammo comes in very small amounts, ect.) The money from authorization passes could go to the proper companies to make sure they are paid. I'm not encouraging piracy, but I don't see why the video game industry hasn't considered trying to reclaim money they lost because of it from the pirates themselves now that they can sell DLC and games online.

In a few ways, the gaming industry already does that.

I'm pretty sure that the founding fathers of America would be disappointed if they knew about these laws and treaties that Americans are having imposed on them these days. It should be the rights of people that come first, not copyrights. Without people to come up with ideas, there would be no copyrights. I know copyright infringment is serious, but some things about it are absurd. Example, how can a dead person continue to produce new works years after his or her death? I think that maybe they should have a much more limited lifespan. At least that way they can say they reduced piracy, even though the way they did might defeat the point.

Copyright is a right of the people (the person who created it). We all go screaming about our rights but seem to forget that with every right comes a responsibility. The two keep each other in check. So while we do have our rights of Internet freedom...we also have the responsibility to respect others intellectual property.

A little info about copyrights.

Numbers two and six seem like good ones to keep in mind. Sega could create a SatAM game if they wanted to do so without permission from the other companies involved with the SatAM/Archie franchise for that reason. Likewise, it also means they can shut down Sea3on. As long as they show respect for their fans, I say that we should try to support the companies that have those copyrights and their franchises. When they stop showing respect for their fans, it might be a good idea to avoid their products and wait for them to get their act together.

Not quite. SatAM is a derivative work, but that doesn't give them automatic ownership of the original characters within it. Granted, I believe they do own those characters per the terms of the contract they signed with the relevant companies, but it's theoretically possible for them to have signed a contract wherein they don't own the new characters.
