I'm A Published Author As Well...

I've written some stuff that's uniquely my own idea.
In fact, I happen to be a published author!
My books are called the Jewel-Fruit Forest Saga.
Currently, I have two books out, but I sent the manuscript of the third one to the publishers this past week, and a fourth one is still in rough draft phase.
My current books are:
The Farm Boy and the Fairy Princess: Book 1 of the Jewel-Fruit Forest Saga
and
Secret of the Khmer: Book 2 of the Jewel-Fruit Forest Saga
Basically, these are kind of my own personal Narnia. If you want me to, ask and I can tell you more!

Hey, that's awesome man. What publisher do you go through?
It's called PublishAmerica.

Just type in my name "Danny Wheeler" in the search engine. The online store's prices are a bit high, though authors can buy their own books at a discount.
And I myself can sell my own books at a much lower price, so buying a copy or two from me can be quite a bargain. Send me a PM for more info.

That is pretty amazing. Just out of curiosity, how wide-spread is you marketing and do you have any books in stores?
Eh, it's relatively small right now. Some authors have really gotten a lot, but some not so much. I guess I'm one of the latter since I'm more recent than some of the authors. The publisher markets to some of the bigger named stores (like Barnes 'n' Noble), but I am permitted to market to religious book stores or novelty stores (I one time marketed my book to an autism awareness store, since I myself have Asperger's).
But I often sell my books personally to friends--even sign them for those who want a signed copy.
Again, if you want to buy a copy of my books, send me a private message and we can discuss more about it.

Do yourself a favor and get a proper literary agent. If you got this publisher through an agent, fire him/her right now! Staying with these guys will damage your career more than it will help it. Get out while you can.

Honestly, I'm not sure I'd want to be associated with that publisher. They're an author mill, and they are also scumbags. These are the people who flat-out lied by saying they have a deal where you can get your book read by prestigious authors, among them J.K. Rowling. Rowling got wind of this (surprise) and said that no such deal had ever been in place (surprise again). Then they tried to cover it up and pretend they never made such an offer, but the Google Cache doesn't lie.

I tried another publisher before PA, and the terms of their contract was ridiculous.

Here are some sites you should be reading:
* http://bookendslitagency.blogspot.com/ -- blog by a literary agency
* http://jetreidliterary.blogspot.com/ -- another literary agent's blog
* http://queryshark.blogspot.com/ -- how and not to how to write a query letter; run by the same person as above
* http://blog.nathanbransford.com/ -- blog by a former literary agent (a shame that he's retired from it; I want him as my agent)
* http://accrispin.blogspot.com/ -- Writer Beware; they have some, erm, choice words about your current publisher
I'm doing my homework on this because I want to be sure all that effort I'm putting into writing 80,000 (or however many) words won't go to waste. ^^;

Don't go directly to publishers, go through agents. That's part of their job -- to negotiate contracts. Agents don't cost money, they only charge a 15% commission, and any published author (which unfortunately doesn't include me yet) will tell you that the money they will make/save you is more than that.

Thanks for the links. I just came across this while browsing FUS. They're extremely informational and helpful.
