@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 11:25 AM)

Also I still have to figure out how to set up our e-mail accounts on the new host.

@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 08:19 AM)

As soon as I figure out how to restore it. Sorry, I know I said it'd be done by now, but I didn't expect to have to put up with this DNS crap and other issues that popped up.

@  Uncle Ben : (24 July 2015 - 07:56 AM)

So when's the black theme coming back??

@  Uncle Ben : (24 July 2015 - 07:56 AM)

"Should"

@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 07:27 AM)

That DNS took longer to propagate properly than I thought it would. *Now* we should be back for good, though.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 08:48 PM)

Or it might be because Bluehost *finally* got around to that server wipe (one week after we'd asked for it) and that wiped out our DNS settings. I'm not sure which and I don't really care. In any case, we've severed our last ties with Bluehost, so this will not happen again.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 08:08 PM)

Looks like Bluehost yanked our DNS since our hosting account expired. That's why the site went down a while ago. But as you can see, it's fixed now.

@  Misk : (23 July 2015 - 04:55 PM)

No, they do not.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 04:27 AM)

The goggles do nothing?

@  Misk : (22 July 2015 - 05:50 PM)

My eyes.

@  furrykef : (22 July 2015 - 12:24 PM)

Looks like forum uploads might have been broken since last night. That should be fixed now too.

@  furrykef : (22 July 2015 - 01:33 AM)

Heh, whoops! Server went down for a few mins when I borked the config. Looks like it's back up now.

@  Uncle Ben : (21 July 2015 - 09:09 PM)

It looked like a napkin

@  ILOVEVHS : (21 July 2015 - 09:04 PM)

Fan-fuckin-tastic.

@  furrykef : (21 July 2015 - 08:25 PM)

As for the beaver picture while the forum was down, I think Tim drew it. On a napkin.

@  furrykef : (21 July 2015 - 08:24 PM)

No kiddin' about that "Finally!", Shadow. I am *so mad* at Bluehost for never responding to our support ticket. I submitted it early Friday morning and they *still* haven't answered it!

@  Uncle Ben : (21 July 2015 - 06:37 PM)

Maybe he did that himself

@  Shadow : (21 July 2015 - 05:25 PM)

Say, who made the cute picture of Beaver Chief?

@  Shadow : (21 July 2015 - 05:24 PM)

Finally!

@  RedMenace : (21 July 2015 - 05:02 PM)

Woooo! The site's back up! Three cheers for Kef!

come October we will have answers:

But will the answers leave us with a feeling of contentment and satisfaction, or will they make us enraged and feel betrayed?

I'm sadly believing on the latter.

to me, all of this seems like a really bad feeling in the bottom of my gut. I sure hope Archie, and Ian know what they are doing, and I hope they take the RIGHT path with this. I've been a fan of this comic well over 15 years, and I would hate to see it go downhill. (even though some already see that, but I'm talking more character wise than story wise)

I'm afraid it's gone downhill character wise too.

It's like Ian can't decide what he wants the characters to be, so he adds his own two cents just for kicks.

What I actually meant by that is killing off more characters, instead of giving those characters a chance in the comic

I know what you mean.

But sadly, this is what Ian seems to enjoy I hate to say.

Wasn't he the one who said during his killing spree of his early run, "tying up loose ends."

I think that was just his excuse for wiping out characters.

Although, I didn't mind him getting rid of Tommy.

One of the biggest waste of comic characters ever.

Yes, the question is if we are going to like the answers. I am concerned about the changes that will be coming because of Genesis, not just with what happens with Sally. I don't really trust Ian.

Neither do I.

That guy has got some very disturbing, ulterior motives within him.

What exactly, I don't know yet.

At least his death was selfless with abit of soul in it because if Tommy didn't died at the time, then A.D.A.M. would have gotten away from his(A.DA.M.). Though I do agree he is worthless, but he's abit tolerable to me and he does have a few decent moments.

Yea, I'll give Ian credit for how he handled killing off Tommy.

Although, I would have been happy even if he died just getting killed by one of Eggman's machines during one of his assaults.

I guess that sounds harsh and cold, but I hated Tommy from the get go.

He did absolutely nothing worthwhile his whole time in the comic before his brave sacrifice.

Just looking at the cover for #230, I'm struck by something I was just discussing on another board.

I mod on a different board that has a substantial amount of pro wrestling fans on it. I'm an old school fan (as in, early 90's Hulkamania), but I'm reading the current fans gripe quite a bit about the main guy, John Cena, always "overcoming the odds"...they put these in quotations because, honestly, the guy is never, ever an underdog. From what I've read, they've had him in an infinite amount of matches that were supposed to destroy him (e.g. matches where he fights more than one guy, his opponents are allowed to cheat, etc.), yet he just about comes out on top every single time, or if he slips up, he's back on top within a couple of weeks.

Well, looking at the cover for #230, I see Sonic fighting off BOTH Metal Sonic and Silver Sonic. I understand that Silver Sonic is tied to the Death Egg Saga, Metal is popular, whatever, but I'm getting visions of multiple pages in the issue of Sonic fighting them off at the same time...even if he's just barely hanging on, he'd still be holding his own against two of his most potentially lethal enemies.

This would just be a climax in the situation the comic has painted itself into: nothing can stop Sonic.

I know he's the hero, I know he's got an incredible super power ala The Flash, and that if he has access to Chaos Emeralds he can gain Superman-like powers. You know what? That's totally fine. That's who Sonic is.

But the comic also had a long history of setting up that Sonic, powerful as he is, has limitations, and has had times when he's been utterly vulnerable DESPITE his powers.

It all goes with the main critique many of us older fans have of the comic now: the heroes are all insanely overpowered, the villains underpowered, hence there is no suspense.

The SatAM iteration of Robotnik, and by extension the "Julian Kintobor, of the House of Ivo" character in Archie, is fondly remembered for his villainy because, at the end of the day, he almost always held all the cards. Yes, he'd lose battles, but he was still the supreme evil dictator, he was still the one with armies of robots, the one with the roboticizer, the one with all the technological power at his disposal. Even when they wrote him as a goofier, AoStH-style Robotnik in the early issues, those facts were still there.

If you really think about it, the Julian character wasn't great in the Archie series for long; basically for about a two year span, then having his legend added to with the "Tales of the Great War" saga. Even in SatAM, he was only truly dominant in Season One, as he was made to look a bit more foolish in Season Two. But the Sonic universe is so utterly devoid of great, competent, THREATENING villains that despite all that, he still looms as the greatest villain of the series. Hell, Sonic and the gang even had trouble with his Swatbots sometimes!

It's the same reason why Dmitri was considered great in the Knuckles series; Dmitri was capable of winning.

There's just no real danger to anything anymore.

EDIT: Oddly enough, this is NOT a "the comic should be darker!" argument, simply a "the villains should be semi-competent!" one.

Up to this point Sonic's not won a single one-on-one fight against Metal Sonic 3.0. Somehow I doubt that's just going to change for no reason. Also Super Scourge and Naugus and Iron Queen for some time. Even Iron King just thrashes the hedgehog. They eventually lost, but they were more than a threat while they were around.

Interesting points you make here.

To be honest, I find those facts kinda disturbing.

Is Ian trying to make Sonic weaker than he should be?

Not saying he should be his near invincible form from Sonic X, but at least make it a stalemate with Sonic holding a slight edge.

Metal Sonic almost always has the edge, in Sega and the OVA and Archie when it wasn't busy being terrible. It's an unfeeling robot whose biggest appeal and trait is being able to pound Sonic into the ground: it's not something most things can do singlehandedly. It's a nice thing to show that Sonic isn't invincible, and it also encourages teamwork. NO single character is able to beat Metal Sonic.
