@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 11:25 AM)

Also I still have to figure out how to set up our e-mail accounts on the new host.

@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 08:19 AM)

As soon as I figure out how to restore it. Sorry, I know I said it'd be done by now, but I didn't expect to have to put up with this DNS crap and other issues that popped up.

@  Uncle Ben : (24 July 2015 - 07:56 AM)

So when's the black theme coming back??

@  Uncle Ben : (24 July 2015 - 07:56 AM)

"Should"

@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 07:27 AM)

That DNS took longer to propagate properly than I thought it would. *Now* we should be back for good, though.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 08:48 PM)

Or it might be because Bluehost *finally* got around to that server wipe (one week after we'd asked for it) and that wiped out our DNS settings. I'm not sure which and I don't really care. In any case, we've severed our last ties with Bluehost, so this will not happen again.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 08:08 PM)

Looks like Bluehost yanked our DNS since our hosting account expired. That's why the site went down a while ago. But as you can see, it's fixed now.

@  Misk : (23 July 2015 - 04:55 PM)

No, they do not.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 04:27 AM)

The goggles do nothing?

@  Misk : (22 July 2015 - 05:50 PM)

My eyes.

@  furrykef : (22 July 2015 - 12:24 PM)

Looks like forum uploads might have been broken since last night. That should be fixed now too.

@  furrykef : (22 July 2015 - 01:33 AM)

Heh, whoops! Server went down for a few mins when I borked the config. Looks like it's back up now.

@  Uncle Ben : (21 July 2015 - 09:09 PM)

It looked like a napkin

@  ILOVEVHS : (21 July 2015 - 09:04 PM)

Fan-fuckin-tastic.

@  furrykef : (21 July 2015 - 08:25 PM)

As for the beaver picture while the forum was down, I think Tim drew it. On a napkin.

@  furrykef : (21 July 2015 - 08:24 PM)

No kiddin' about that "Finally!", Shadow. I am *so mad* at Bluehost for never responding to our support ticket. I submitted it early Friday morning and they *still* haven't answered it!

@  Uncle Ben : (21 July 2015 - 06:37 PM)

Maybe he did that himself

@  Shadow : (21 July 2015 - 05:25 PM)

Say, who made the cute picture of Beaver Chief?

@  Shadow : (21 July 2015 - 05:24 PM)

Finally!

@  RedMenace : (21 July 2015 - 05:02 PM)

Woooo! The site's back up! Three cheers for Kef!

Well alot happened in Japan since the quake has struck. Since there was no topic about one made yet, here's one now.
I'm glad I am living on the west here where the quake did not hit, and the tsunamis did not touch despite the warnings and schools shut down here. It's really hard to put into words witnessing this amount of death and destruction happening so quickly. So many people have lost their lives or been changed forever. Thousands dead and missing, with disease and sickness setting in. The people of Tokyo were very lucky that it stopped just short of their city, but their was still damage. I saw some pics of Tokyo Tower bent, bridges flipped on their sides, power outages, and most likely looting and crime on the rise.
As you all know, they are struggling with the Fukushima Nuclear Plant, that is on the verge of having a melt down, and now theirs talks of the after shocks reaching up to 6 or 7, which might cause more problematic tsunamis....

This is really hell.

The aftershocks really aren't so bad for them. Providing they don't cause more tsunami's. However Japan is a nation use to earthquakes, so they shouldn't be as hard hit as other countries would have been.

On the nuclear side of things.. That's where a lot of your trouble is. Not just for Japan but for us here in BC too. They have already stated that they believe 2 reactors are in a partial melt down. Now its hard to say exactly what will happen from that, however if they do go into full meltdown we will be in trouble here as well. The Jet stream runs right over them and on words to us which would end up bringing radioactive gases our way. Another problem here in BC is it rains a lot. Thats bad because rain is what would bring down all the radioactive components and they would end up settling on the ground. One expert who was on Globals noon news hour went on to say that if that were to happen we would have to avoid eating our own crops for months if not years to come.

I'm not saying this will happen, however if the reactors do go into full melt down there is a good chance of it. So its not just affecting Japan.

not only that but the quake itself took the big island of japan, and it moved it eight feet to the east, as well as tilting the earth's axis

No, no, a thousand times no. Even a full meltdown is not going to spread radiation.

The facts.

If you ask me, this whole incident has only proven how solid and safe nuclear technology has become... and people are still spinning it into a PR disaster for nuclear power. Ugh.

I know a full melt down must happen and the container has to be breached. The container its self is designed to withstand a meltdown so it really shouldn't go.

Oh right,

Ugh.

It's truly terrible that this happened and so many people are dead or missing. I have a friend who is Japanese but lives in the US on the western coast, but sometimes he goes to Japan for business and to see his family. I emailed him when I first heard about all of this and didn't get a response, which is really not surprising. But I found out through someone else he and someone he works with are in Tokyo and stranded, but they're okay, and his family is too. I'm glad to hear at least he and his family and the person he works with is safe.

A friend of mine knew some people in Japan. He used facebook to see if they were safe, which they ever so thankfully were. The tsunami did more harm than the quake that triggered it ever did. In this video it looks like liquid earth running down carrying two-story houses and sweeping up fleeing vehicles with it.

God, it looks like Hell.

All in all it's quite impressive how well the Japanese deal with the aftereffects of this catastrophy and how many people actually managed to get to safety.

Seems like their crazy-prepared approach worked for them, the deathtolls could've been much higher.

Seeing all of this is just shocking to look at. Seeing entire blocks of houses moved around like a bunch of tub toys is truly creepy. I can't imagine what it's like to be seeing it from a Japanese perspective.

Oh man...

Something that's been passed around from tumblr

So I just had a phone call with a friend of mine who’s living in Japan. She’s living in Sendai and as you may know that’s the city that got hot the worst. Well, she’s okay and her family too so far, but she was close to tears when she called me and after she told me what happened… I’m crying too.
She said that she’s been in the middle of the street after the earthquake and when the tsunami came, together with her mother and her little brother (2 years old). The water was too fast so they had to hide in the shelter of a house but they knew that the water would rise more and more and that they had to get away from there or else they would drown. They kept yelling and somehow a man saw them from a balcony of the house they were hiding behind. Well, that man jumped down from the balcony and into the water and helped my friend and her mother and brother to get up into the house and the safety even though the water was getting stronger and stronger and making it even more impossible to stand. My friend’s mother insisted on her kids going first and then the man helped her up the balcony too.
She just turned around and he grabbed her hand to get out of the water too when a car (one of hundreds) was being washed down the street and in his direction. My friend’s mother and the other people were yelling… and he suddenly let go of her hand so that she wouldn’t get pulled into the water when the car hit and drowned him.
My friend and her family survived… thanks to a stranger who gave his life to rescue them. He could’ve stayed in the save building but instead he helped them. I was so touched when she told me her story.
I don’t know the name of this man, his story, who he was… but I want to give him a special moment in my prayers today and in the future.
He’s a true hero.

Amazing stories coming out of Japan. Disasters really do bring out the best of humanity from time to time.

I also like how Japan as a whole deals with conservation efforts among disasters. I guess they've found a way to cope with things like this.

What makes me even more sick to my stomach than the earthquake itself is the zero sympathy some other people show. So many people at sites like Youtube don't give a shit about what happened over there. There was this one guy called 'NoMoreNiceGuy' who just trolls on every video that mentions the earthquake and just goes 'F*ck those japs that's what they deserve' and 'Remember pearl harbor, they got what was coming to them'. I'd love to see a landslide demolish his ass.

Er yeah, cause saying a whole bunch of people alive today that had nothing to do with Pearl Harbor deserves to die. I like how he thinks there. Certainly doesn't have all his dogs barking there. :P

I would say a lot of countries have ass holes.. Not just America. I also think its more education that is at fault besides just "assholery" I mean I would bet that half those people have some Sony product or another.

Yeah, no doubt. Amazes me how someone can make such a stupid, close-minded remark such as that about Pearl Harbor. And if they wanted to say that the Japanese got what they deserved for that, then doesn't that mean the big powerful white man deserves being berated for using black people for slavery? Certainly no double standard there. :P

But anyway, that's not to deviate from the topic.

I think even the A-Bombs that were dropped on Japan were over-kill for a Pearl Harbor reaction. It was more of an attempt to just close the war as quickly as possible than it was to show up a small country floating somewhere in the Pacific. Arguably not an excuse, but still. Get the facts straight, YouTube trollers! (Oh, wait. Trollers don't learn, do they?)

And NO ONE deserves the current devastation in Japan. I don't care who you are.
