@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 11:25 AM)

Also I still have to figure out how to set up our e-mail accounts on the new host.

@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 08:19 AM)

As soon as I figure out how to restore it. Sorry, I know I said it'd be done by now, but I didn't expect to have to put up with this DNS crap and other issues that popped up.

@  Uncle Ben : (24 July 2015 - 07:56 AM)

So when's the black theme coming back??

@  Uncle Ben : (24 July 2015 - 07:56 AM)

"Should"

@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 07:27 AM)

That DNS took longer to propagate properly than I thought it would. *Now* we should be back for good, though.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 08:48 PM)

Or it might be because Bluehost *finally* got around to that server wipe (one week after we'd asked for it) and that wiped out our DNS settings. I'm not sure which and I don't really care. In any case, we've severed our last ties with Bluehost, so this will not happen again.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 08:08 PM)

Looks like Bluehost yanked our DNS since our hosting account expired. That's why the site went down a while ago. But as you can see, it's fixed now.

@  Misk : (23 July 2015 - 04:55 PM)

No, they do not.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 04:27 AM)

The goggles do nothing?

@  Misk : (22 July 2015 - 05:50 PM)

My eyes.

@  furrykef : (22 July 2015 - 12:24 PM)

Looks like forum uploads might have been broken since last night. That should be fixed now too.

@  furrykef : (22 July 2015 - 01:33 AM)

Heh, whoops! Server went down for a few mins when I borked the config. Looks like it's back up now.

@  Uncle Ben : (21 July 2015 - 09:09 PM)

It looked like a napkin

@  ILOVEVHS : (21 July 2015 - 09:04 PM)

Fan-fuckin-tastic.

@  furrykef : (21 July 2015 - 08:25 PM)

As for the beaver picture while the forum was down, I think Tim drew it. On a napkin.

@  furrykef : (21 July 2015 - 08:24 PM)

No kiddin' about that "Finally!", Shadow. I am *so mad* at Bluehost for never responding to our support ticket. I submitted it early Friday morning and they *still* haven't answered it!

@  Uncle Ben : (21 July 2015 - 06:37 PM)

Maybe he did that himself

@  Shadow : (21 July 2015 - 05:25 PM)

Say, who made the cute picture of Beaver Chief?

@  Shadow : (21 July 2015 - 05:24 PM)

Finally!

@  RedMenace : (21 July 2015 - 05:02 PM)

Woooo! The site's back up! Three cheers for Kef!

So, you've all seen the exclusive pictures Eddie has shared with us (if not...go here), and you've all seen the preview posted on youtube (if not...go here). What the heck...it's Sonic...and he has fur...and quills!!! This seems to be one of the big debates among the Sonic fan communities regarding Eddies film. So I bring this question to the forums...What do you guys thing of the new design Eddie has brought to Sonic?

Personally, I love it. This is something new that has never been tried before. That shows originality and creativity. I'm excited to see how well this new Sonic turns out in the film. I also liked what new forum member and Sonic Fan Film concept artist SEGAMew had to say about the design. I went to go find that quote and it wasn't where I thought it was xD.png. I thought it was her that said it. Maybe she said it in IRC...I don't know. But her basic point was that since this film is a mix of CGI and real life, Sonic needed to have the real fur and quills to blend in to the world around him. I think it makes perfect sense. But it's not my thoughts that I want to know (I already know them), it's your thoughts I'm interested in. So let's hear it...what do you think?

That's the risk of making a Sonic fanfilm: Fans will bitch about anything.

It really doesn't matter to me.

I'll be honest. I like it. Main reason is because the film is being put in a real life shooting. Sonic is just being CGed into it. If they made him one solid colour.. Well, I think it would look bizarre. This way it brings Sonic out and shows that added touch of realism.

I more or less agree. It makes sense to give him some realism. Personally, I love how their tryingq to take the character into a different direction.... and yet, fans will complain...

From a film perspective, I approove of the realistic look. It helps differentiate from the multiple continuities. I would love to see realistic interpritations of Tails, Knuckles, Sally, Amy, Bunnie etc. Would make for a unique look if there was ever a reboot or anything.

I like it. I'm not too keen on the look of the quills, however.

Love it! I probably wouldn't want it on every incarnation of Sonic the Hedgehog out there, but it certainly works for this project.

Sad truth: I almost worked with man on his fan film project. This was all before I found out he was the infamous Knothole Resident people were freaking out over. I'm so glad he was in his "I hate SEGA" period and turned me down on my offer. I'd hate to have to quit on him, or have to explain here why I'm working on a project that I think is stupid and dead in the water.

The new sonic models featured on the site are really good. The transition from fur to quill is really good.

Maybe the nose could be shortened alittle bit, but overall the design is really good.

Here's my post that Bakuda is probably talking about:

QUOTE (SEGAMew on Sonic Retro)
No one can deny the existence of fur on Sonic. It's there in plain SEGA blue. If you pull Sonic from out of your CGI'd polygonal Sonic games and examine him, he's not going to feel like he has blue and peach humanesque skin. He's likely have the smooth and softness of a real African Pygmy hedgehog (the spines are debatable as they're meant to annihilate robots). How Sonic's appearance will look like in an actual real life setting, not simply a realistic yet still fantasical setting of Sonic '06, is subject to interpretation debates. Gotta love these debates!

Sleeking back the fur is definitely an option. Personally I like to view this shaggy scruffy Sonic as a Sonic before he broke the sound barrier, before he spent 20 years chasing after Robotnik to stop his vile schemes. There have been quite a few ideas and examples of how Sonic would look younger. We seen him with brown fur, gap between his eye teeth, or totally different shoes. We haven't really seen a SEGA Sonic game take on a younger Sonic before he became the true blue hero.

This may be a fan's interpretation of him rather than from an officially licensed media's interpretation, but when you think about it, there's really no strict “wrong” way to show off how Sonic looks, especially when judging them within their own continuity. Brown Sonic makes perfect sense to the readers of the Fleetway Sonic comics because of the way of how the story is written and executed. If a completely brown Sonic whose quills look NOTHING like Sonic at all can make sense to a group of readers, then it's very possible that a scruffy Sonic in this film can make sense to its watchers. I'm well aware that people may not like brown or the scruffy Sonic, but we all know very well by now that you can never please everyone.

I think we shouldn't be concentrating on who Sonic is, but who Sonic can be.

Also think about how Sonic would have looked like if we just rip his in-game model and put it into the real world:

We all know and well Rocky does not have visible fur in the classic cartoons. Let's stay true to the character designs and put him in a real life environment as he is!

On the other hand:

We know in our minds that Yogi is not drawn with fur in his classic cartoons either. Look how much better he assimilates into his real life surroundings.

I'm not out here to say that any of your preferences for a furless Sonic is wrong. The idea of Sonic with dog fur is downright appalling to some people because it was never explicitly highlighted in the games (besides the Werehog use). However I know we haven't seen Sonic interacting in a real, nonCGI'd environment in the games (usually reserved for cereal and pasta commercials). Sometimes we forget this fact and unconsciously assume that if a CGI'd lack of fur Sonic looks sweet against the purely CGI'd environment of Sweet Mountain, there shouldn't be a problem if that CGI'd environment is swapped out for the Himalayas.

I also started a poll on my deviantART page to gather a good amount of feedback on it. Right now it's overwhelmingly in favor of the fur with quills look xD.png

In regards to the images revealed:

1- stupid lips. Remove his lips, please.
2- eyes are too bright
3- fuzz is a bit too long on the body, no
4- tummy fuzz is too dark
5- EVERYTHING IS TOO DARK. seriously, brighten the blue a little
6- the spine idea isn't bad, but it's being badly rendered. please, PLEASE, don't make the spines shine and reflect like here. make the fur opaque, make the spines opaque, so it all comes together, other wise his spines look half-plastic, half-greased.

So, suggestions? Either go Unleashed and make the mouth always be on his sides, or make the mouth smaller if you want to have it centered. Also, NO LIPS. God those look awful. also, remove the chicken bumps form the skin.
Make the blue on him a tad lighter.
Make the green on his eyes less saturated.
Make the fur and spines all look opaque and un-shiny to make it all come together.

Its not that I think Sonic looks bad with lips, but thats a bit.. too wide for him, you know? Also, I think his head is a little too big for his body in that second image and those bumps agreeably look off on him. Its like his skin's breaking out, or something.

Eddie also might want to make his stomach the same color as his skin, because as it stands, its color is so noticably different that it doesn't look like its an actual part of his body. No offense but when I saw the second image, I thought it was someone else on this board shopping Sonic's head on something else as some form of a joke. Other things might include making the eyes a bit bigger and making his hands wider to add better balance to his face. It would also help if the fur in Sonic's ears were a bit brighter and matched more with his muzzle than the color of his stomach.

One thing that has to be remembered though is that any mouth doesn't stay just to one side of the face....the mouth and lips can be seen on both sides...so maybe this is an attempt to normalize Sonic's grin to real-life asthetic. =P

I would like to say and ease your minds that the Sonics you see on that poster/boxart is not the same model as the cooler cuter one you saw in the trailer.

I thought so. The head shape in the model looked different from the ones on the poster. Almost like the posters were concept art tests leading up to the finished model. The model I saw outside of the posters looks near-about perfect for what you're trying to do. thumbsup_anim.gif

i haven't donated enough money to see eddie's final sonic model, but i like where he's going with the quills looking like...quills! with today's technology segasonic should look way more awesome than he does. his quills look like some awkward rubbery extension of his rubbery head. a trend sega started with the title screen of sonic 3&k. i know sega was competing for graphical superiority at the time, but damn, that "3d" rendition of sonic looks so goofy being all rubbery and shiny like that.

i look forward to seeing what eddie will do with the other characters someday, especially knuckles.
