@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 11:25 AM)

Also I still have to figure out how to set up our e-mail accounts on the new host.

@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 08:19 AM)

As soon as I figure out how to restore it. Sorry, I know I said it'd be done by now, but I didn't expect to have to put up with this DNS crap and other issues that popped up.

@  Uncle Ben : (24 July 2015 - 07:56 AM)

So when's the black theme coming back??

@  Uncle Ben : (24 July 2015 - 07:56 AM)

"Should"

@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 07:27 AM)

That DNS took longer to propagate properly than I thought it would. *Now* we should be back for good, though.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 08:48 PM)

Or it might be because Bluehost *finally* got around to that server wipe (one week after we'd asked for it) and that wiped out our DNS settings. I'm not sure which and I don't really care. In any case, we've severed our last ties with Bluehost, so this will not happen again.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 08:08 PM)

Looks like Bluehost yanked our DNS since our hosting account expired. That's why the site went down a while ago. But as you can see, it's fixed now.

@  Misk : (23 July 2015 - 04:55 PM)

No, they do not.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 04:27 AM)

The goggles do nothing?

@  Misk : (22 July 2015 - 05:50 PM)

My eyes.

@  furrykef : (22 July 2015 - 12:24 PM)

Looks like forum uploads might have been broken since last night. That should be fixed now too.

@  furrykef : (22 July 2015 - 01:33 AM)

Heh, whoops! Server went down for a few mins when I borked the config. Looks like it's back up now.

@  Uncle Ben : (21 July 2015 - 09:09 PM)

It looked like a napkin

@  ILOVEVHS : (21 July 2015 - 09:04 PM)

Fan-fuckin-tastic.

@  furrykef : (21 July 2015 - 08:25 PM)

As for the beaver picture while the forum was down, I think Tim drew it. On a napkin.

@  furrykef : (21 July 2015 - 08:24 PM)

No kiddin' about that "Finally!", Shadow. I am *so mad* at Bluehost for never responding to our support ticket. I submitted it early Friday morning and they *still* haven't answered it!

@  Uncle Ben : (21 July 2015 - 06:37 PM)

Maybe he did that himself

@  Shadow : (21 July 2015 - 05:25 PM)

Say, who made the cute picture of Beaver Chief?

@  Shadow : (21 July 2015 - 05:24 PM)

Finally!

@  RedMenace : (21 July 2015 - 05:02 PM)

Woooo! The site's back up! Three cheers for Kef!

I really hate winter. More specifically: I hate the cold weather that it brings. I hate the cold, because it feels like it's sucking the life out of me. Plus, out here in the sticks, ice and snow aren't fun. They make it harder to get around, and sometimes cause stuff like snapped power lines. And when they melt, everything turns into a mud bog... Also, the cold weather means that if you don't keep some water running all the time, your water pipes'll freeze up and bust. And/or your septic line will freeze and cause the toilet to back up into the bathtub/shower (those of us with bathtubs have a better situation, as it's not as likely to flood the bathroom with human waste).

But, what's really kicked off this topic is the fact that my house's heater just crapped out on me... The worst thing to wake up to is a cold house with no source of heat... I was able to borrow some portable heaters, but those always carry some risk of burning the house down... So, I won't be sleeping tonight... Hopefully, the repair folk'll be able to fix it tomorrow... If not, the dogs and I'll have to move into my folks' house until we can get it fixed...

Sometimes its a joyous season with snowball fights and warming up near the fireplace on a windy night. But most of the time its like some guy turning on a fan right in front of your face, taking a crap into a bucket, and throwing the bucket of crap into the fan. In other words, I have more annoying holiday memories than good ones.

I've experienced all that...even the crapped up heater in the dead if winter...and it's not fun. I feel for ya Vlad...I just hope you can get it fixed SOON!!!

As for the question I do enjoy winter...until around January. I'm a person who likes change and when the seasons begin to change it's really exciting for me. I especially like the gray skies and somber undertones that come with winter. But after about three or four weeks of really cold weather I'm ready for spring to be here. Actually, I'm not quite at that point yet...but give me a few weeks and we'll see.

Where I live winter is the same as every other season, only colder. No snow or freezing pipes.

Ha! No snow here. The closest thing we get to freezing cold is when I take cold showers... during winter! Suffer in your jocks, Vlad.

Winter here in the Northern Territory of Australia is the best part of the year actually - nice warmish sunny days around 33 C. In fact it's 33 C in the NT all year round, it's the humidity that changes. Summer time - 100% Humidity; Winter - much, much less. But by fuck does it rain like buggery during the summer. Stupid wet season.

ohmy.gif I hate 33 C temperatures. xD.png That's what we have here in the summer! Sometimes as hot as 40. Winters though, they can get as cold as like 2 to maybe -8. Little cold but I prefer the winter. There's only so much you can take off in the summer time. Winter you can always just add to what you're wearing. Plus I like snow. happy.gif

Costa Rica (or at least San Jose) also has samey weather all year round (a low of 15C and a high of 30C; these highs and lows don't shift around too much throughout the year) except for rainfall. But then they have killer bees and bullet ants. *shudder*

Y'know why it's called a "bullet ant"? Because its sting is, quite literally, as painful as getting shot.

Snow began to melt down due to the positive temperature, but now you have to fight with ice.

When I go back home, I always take this hill, and it was ICED. Because of that, it was almost impossible to climb up the hill. If it wasn't for some non-iced portions and snow, I wouldn't came back home.

Well, it was fixed a few hours ago... Then it broke itself again... So, I'm stuck with another night of no sleep, cause portable heaters can't be trusted... zombie-en-feu.gif

Weird, yet most people I know have oil. Ah well. I know a bit about oil furnaces cause I work at a garage that delivers heating oil (really its just diesel) and we also fix the furnaces.

I've heard that they tend to use oil furnaces up north more than around the middle and lower US... Probly 'cause the fuel oil doesn't freeze as readily as propane... Last winter, we had to unfreeze the renter's propane tank with our flamethrower. And yes, we have a flamethrower. And no, it's not the cool weapons-grade "spew burning napalm" version. It's the "metal can welded to the end of a pole and hooked to a portable propane tank" variant (also referred to as a "weed burner" by those of us not into drug culture). On the farm, they're used for burning off wheat fields after harvest (reduces fertilizer costs and draws less attention from the ATF than renting an Anhydrous tank). They get their nickname for being used as an alternative to a weed whip (especially around stuff that likes to eat weed whip string and break the string alternatives). My dad uses his to heat stuff that would take too long with the hand-held torch. And to occasionally ignite a gas well (I'm not sure if he does that for laughs or if it's actually a test of the well's output or something).

As to my heater: It's been mortally wounded by Father Time and Wicked Stepmother Corrosion... We've gotta replace the whole fuckin' thing. The repair guy says it'll take half a day to do, and it'll probly be tuesday before the replacement comes in... If I drop off the face of the internet for a few days, It'll be because I moved in with family until we can get the heater replaced...

Good news: I helped install the new heater today and it's working well. Now I can actually sleep properly, agian without worrying about the house burning down...

I still hate winter and the cold in general, though.

And just when things're going somewhat good again: We get hit by freezing rain, which is supposed to be followed by a blizzard/ice storm which isn't supposed to let up until around thursday... And the power's been off and on all day... Hopefully, it'll stay on, now... But, what with that ice and snow, it may not... And if it doesn't, that meas that I'm goinna hafta have someone with a 4 wheel drive vehicle help move me and the dogs in in with family who does have power... Or that we're goinna hafta set up a couple of portable generators outside and run extension cables to the house for portable heaters and the microwave...

DAMN YOU, OLD MAN WINTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! sad_shakefist.gif

I actually still prefer winter over summer, but I'm not digging this freezing rain myself. We're under winter storm warning as well until sometime tomorrow. Lots of closures. Hopefully won't be like the ice storms last January or the blizzard a week or so before then. ohmy.gif The blizzard was okay, but I could have lived without the ice storm. Trees breaking, branches breaking, powerlines breaking, extremely windy, hearing crackles and crashes...it was freaky! It was like a horror movie!
