@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 11:25 AM)

Also I still have to figure out how to set up our e-mail accounts on the new host.

@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 08:19 AM)

As soon as I figure out how to restore it. Sorry, I know I said it'd be done by now, but I didn't expect to have to put up with this DNS crap and other issues that popped up.

@  Uncle Ben : (24 July 2015 - 07:56 AM)

So when's the black theme coming back??

@  Uncle Ben : (24 July 2015 - 07:56 AM)

"Should"

@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 07:27 AM)

That DNS took longer to propagate properly than I thought it would. *Now* we should be back for good, though.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 08:48 PM)

Or it might be because Bluehost *finally* got around to that server wipe (one week after we'd asked for it) and that wiped out our DNS settings. I'm not sure which and I don't really care. In any case, we've severed our last ties with Bluehost, so this will not happen again.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 08:08 PM)

Looks like Bluehost yanked our DNS since our hosting account expired. That's why the site went down a while ago. But as you can see, it's fixed now.

@  Misk : (23 July 2015 - 04:55 PM)

No, they do not.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 04:27 AM)

The goggles do nothing?

@  Misk : (22 July 2015 - 05:50 PM)

My eyes.

@  furrykef : (22 July 2015 - 12:24 PM)

Looks like forum uploads might have been broken since last night. That should be fixed now too.

@  furrykef : (22 July 2015 - 01:33 AM)

Heh, whoops! Server went down for a few mins when I borked the config. Looks like it's back up now.

@  Uncle Ben : (21 July 2015 - 09:09 PM)

It looked like a napkin

@  ILOVEVHS : (21 July 2015 - 09:04 PM)

Fan-fuckin-tastic.

@  furrykef : (21 July 2015 - 08:25 PM)

As for the beaver picture while the forum was down, I think Tim drew it. On a napkin.

@  furrykef : (21 July 2015 - 08:24 PM)

No kiddin' about that "Finally!", Shadow. I am *so mad* at Bluehost for never responding to our support ticket. I submitted it early Friday morning and they *still* haven't answered it!

@  Uncle Ben : (21 July 2015 - 06:37 PM)

Maybe he did that himself

@  Shadow : (21 July 2015 - 05:25 PM)

Say, who made the cute picture of Beaver Chief?

@  Shadow : (21 July 2015 - 05:24 PM)

Finally!

@  RedMenace : (21 July 2015 - 05:02 PM)

Woooo! The site's back up! Three cheers for Kef!

It's like prohibition, except for anime and manga. It won't last.

Again, there's too much money to be made...it won't last. Coincidentally, as I was typing this the tv said the goverment wants to regulate what goes on youtube.

Update: Just watched the story...apparently theres a bill in congress that'll give the government more liberties to crack down on illegal pirating on the net.

It's like, how?... why?... What?

I mean, how are they gonna track that? And is YouTube regulation really gonna help in the fight against piracy?

It looks like the bill would allow the government to sieze a domain if they feel its infringing on copyrights. However, as cheap as it is to get a domain, this will do little good.

They are just trying to regulate the media and only show things that promotes their agendas.

^ Or the nonsense around it. The guy who pushed the bill doesn't even know exactly what its supposed to do within terms on the anime industry.

Personally, I think they should leave the porn out of anything intended for public viewing... That'd really be a "Ha! We're making you obsolete!" jab at the censors... I've always said that sex in works is 1: The mark of inferior writing and 2: Just pandering to the porn crowd. Leave the porn to porn...

Well, as soon as sex stops existing in real life then I can say we can leave out out of fiction. For those of us living in the real world, though, I think it's a legitimate storytelling device.

You've never read 1984, have you? Its sex scene certainly fits neither category if you ask me.

The sex scene in Terminator would like to disagree with you, Vlad (and slap you repeatedly). It was probably the most important shag in a movie's plot I can think of. Avatar sex scene... Not so much.

A lot of times sex scenes are handled the same way you would of you photographed a man eating alone. Food is good. Sex is good. But neither scene does anything to move the story along, and the viewer reaps very few of the benefits of the on-screen actions. That is unless the context around that scene makes a statement upon the actions therein.

Which is, of course, exactly what the scene in 1984 did. There is no single moment where Winston and Julia could be said to give the finger to the Party more than when they ended up making mad, passionate love. It was the defining moment for them. Excising the scene would rob the moment of its power.

I do agree, though, that sex scenes can be done very badly, and very often are. But there is nothing inherently pointless about them.

^ I agree. Though they've been executed badly more times than they were executed well. I'm reminded of the gratuitous, awkward, and repetitive sex of The Watchmen, but I'm getting somewhat off topic.

The general consensus with the anime issue right now seems to be that not even the man who proposed the bill has a clue as to how it will effect the anime industry.

One thing one has to consider with trying to censor things in Japan is they'll just find some way to make it worse. Can't show genitalia? No problem, here's tentacle monsters. Penetration not allowed? No problem, we'll just invent bukkake! So who knows what could happen if this bill passes... tongue.gif

Their really needs to be some kind of regulations on the porn industry in Japan.

I mean seriously, have you seen some of the horrors in the various media?

The odd thing is this bill wouldn't even effect those industries. It would just water down much of the stuff that's already safe for television.

I get the feeling it will end it disaster. Yeah, they are claiming to be doing it for the right reasons, but its too unclear about what is allowed and what must be change to be available to kids. It possible for that law to be abused and its possible that it might not work at all.

For those who are familiar with The Simpsons, imagine how it would be like if Ned Flanders was in charge. Yeah, things would be pretty boring.

On the other hand, some parents are very lax and don't care.

The sex scene in Terminator can be omitted/skipped over and it makes the movie better when one does this. Until the DVD came out, I wasn't even aware there was a sex scene in the movie. So, it would lose the argument and get bitchslapped for it.
