@  furrykef : (25 July 2015 - 03:35 AM)

When was that? Depending on when it was, it might have been a DNS issue. Those should be gone now.

@  Uncle Ben : (24 July 2015 - 10:10 PM)

on*

@  Uncle Ben : (24 July 2015 - 10:10 PM)

Red said he couldnt get one

@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 11:25 AM)

Also I still have to figure out how to set up our e-mail accounts on the new host.

@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 08:19 AM)

As soon as I figure out how to restore it. Sorry, I know I said it'd be done by now, but I didn't expect to have to put up with this DNS crap and other issues that popped up.

@  Uncle Ben : (24 July 2015 - 07:56 AM)

So when's the black theme coming back??

@  Uncle Ben : (24 July 2015 - 07:56 AM)

"Should"

@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 07:27 AM)

That DNS took longer to propagate properly than I thought it would. *Now* we should be back for good, though.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 08:48 PM)

Or it might be because Bluehost *finally* got around to that server wipe (one week after we'd asked for it) and that wiped out our DNS settings. I'm not sure which and I don't really care. In any case, we've severed our last ties with Bluehost, so this will not happen again.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 08:08 PM)

Looks like Bluehost yanked our DNS since our hosting account expired. That's why the site went down a while ago. But as you can see, it's fixed now.

@  Misk : (23 July 2015 - 04:55 PM)

No, they do not.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 04:27 AM)

The goggles do nothing?

@  Misk : (22 July 2015 - 05:50 PM)

My eyes.

@  furrykef : (22 July 2015 - 12:24 PM)

Looks like forum uploads might have been broken since last night. That should be fixed now too.

@  furrykef : (22 July 2015 - 01:33 AM)

Heh, whoops! Server went down for a few mins when I borked the config. Looks like it's back up now.

@  Uncle Ben : (21 July 2015 - 09:09 PM)

It looked like a napkin

@  ILOVEVHS : (21 July 2015 - 09:04 PM)

Fan-fuckin-tastic.

@  furrykef : (21 July 2015 - 08:25 PM)

As for the beaver picture while the forum was down, I think Tim drew it. On a napkin.

@  furrykef : (21 July 2015 - 08:24 PM)

No kiddin' about that "Finally!", Shadow. I am *so mad* at Bluehost for never responding to our support ticket. I submitted it early Friday morning and they *still* haven't answered it!

@  Uncle Ben : (21 July 2015 - 06:37 PM)

Maybe he did that himself

Do you mean overrated film as in too high rating (G-PG-R) or it wasn't as good as everybody said it was.

Another clarification: Being that you posted this topic in the animation forum, are you talking about ANY film or just animated films?

I've never heard "overrated" used to refer to a movie that got too high a G/PG/R rating.

I can't really think of many, though. Castle of Cagliostro comes to mind, 'cause it's not a good Lupin film and it doesn't really seem to be particularly great even if I try to judge it on its own merits. A lot of anime fans love it, though...

Hmm...I know there are quite a few. The most recent one that I can recall is Sherlock Holms. Having read a few of the books I can say that they perfectly portrayed the character of Sherlock Holms. However, the plot was definitely lacking. For one, the villain was way too lucky. I mean, all of his plans and strategies relied too much on luck. Everything just happened to work as he planned/predicted it would. And overall, the movie was just not believable to me.

Ha what are you implying? tongue.gif
It's all dependent on the viewer and what they're expecting/looking for when it comes to ratings really. But-
I think Hitchcock is overrated though. He made some good movies, but he also made a few that are only outdone in convoluted-ness by their power to induce boredom, but which critics can't seem to pry their lips from the rectum of anyway. VERTIGO comes to mind.

Yeah, it's cool that we can have anti-social self absorbed heroes on the screen now. Gotta love Sherlock Holmes. The mystery was REALLY weak in that movie though.

Easy Rider was the most overrated film I've ever attempted to sit through. Everyone talks about it being a cinematic must-see, and it look no better that Dennis Hopper's vacation videos.

...And this thread really shouldn't be in the animated section.
I believe in what I want to believe in, you believe in what you want to believe in, so when someone wants to believe in something, no one will know what to believe!

I would have to say Avatar. I dunno, I just was really disappointed with the movie. People kept telling me how great it was and when I finally saw it, I wasn't blown away, stunned or really impressed. It wasn't really bad, but it wasn't what I had been told it was.

I agree with you, there. A lot of my friends were a bit disappointed with it, too. But, to me, the most overrated film I've seen (besides Avatar) is Ferris Bueller's Day Off. I know a lot of people see it as a classic, but what I saw was a movie about some rich, manipulative, slacker. After seeing the Nostalgia Critic's review, my opinion was just reinforced. dry.gif

I've personally never seen Avatar, but from what my sister told me it most likely would be on the list if I had. From what I gather it's a cliche story with amazing effects.

Another one that I would have to say is Alice in Wonderland. The computer animation was wonderful but I found the story to be lacking. It was a one time show for me.

A related thing here is how your perception of a movie can change with age. When it came out, Space Jam was awesome. Looking back at it? Pure garbage.

One quality of a true masterpiece is a film that can appeal to all ages. Look at many of Disney's classics. Yeah, they were cartoons and made for children, but they appeal to all ages and now, many years later, we can still watch them and enjoy them just as much now as we did then.

Exactly! I remember seeing it when I was a little kid, and thought it was just awesome. It had Looney Tunes and freakin' Michael Jordan! How did I miss that horrible writing?

Ah, yeah.

Avatar... it was beautiful... I just didn't care for the story all that much. Not a bad movie by any means, I just don't think it's one of the greatest ones out there... Actually, a friend talked me into seeing it, and every time I say "Eh, it was ok," she tells me I always have to critique everything. It's hilarious.

One possible quality more like wink.gif. Lawrence of Arabia is amazing and one of my favorite movies but I doubt I'd have been able to appreciate it at age 7, or probably even age 10. You have to be sufficiently aged and patient (see: boring) to truly appreciate some subtleties and beauties of storytelling.

S'why I've found myself actually enjoying the original Star Trek more now than I ever did as a kid. I've been a Trek fan my whole life* but as a child I had trouble understanding why the future was sooooo slllllooooowww.

*Being a pre-schooler who liked Scotty because of his mustache and Geordi La Forge because I recognized him from Reading Rainbow counts right?
