2 Sonic Fan Movies
#1

If you go to any Sonic board on the web you will hear all this hype from his friends about the state of the project, how awesome it will be and so on. Now myself.. I always kinda put a big fail on his movie. He might have gone to film school or whatever he did but lets be honest here. His credentials kinda suck.
Recently he did put something out though that does show more progress on the film. You can check out the video clip here:
Now good for him. He has a bunch of story boarded sketches done up and put into a youtube video with music. Honestly, by the timing of this it seems as if he is just trying to toss out as much crap as he can after the announcement of Eddie Lebron's Sonic fan film. But who can blame him? Eddie has Jaleel White. What does Richard have? Well.. not Jaleel.
If Richard does pull off his fan film I'm all for it. Sadly.. I'm just full of doubts from all the junk to do with his film in the past. I think this release of Sketches is a attempt to get back into the "I'm doing the Sonic Fan Film!" area of the net. I just don't think such a publicity stunt will work out how he thinks it will. Continuously showing us stuff for his movie just seems as if he is trying to.. whore out his movie more then what he should. All hype, showing little tid bits and thats all. Perhaps this recent group of sketches may get more people donating to his project but I don't think so.
Richard will have a lot of trouble with his movie, especially if Eddie ends up beating him to the punch and getting his out first. Richard may of had a.. What? 3 year head start? But he still has a long way to go. However one thing working on Richards movie (at least in my opinion) is its not going to be all CGed. I am not a big fan of CGed stuff, you can give me classic animation any day before you go dropping a CGed piece on me. So kuto's to you Rich. If it all pulls off I am looking foreword to watching it. Good luck.
As for you Eddie.. You are jumping into one crazy ass fan base. I recommend not showing a bunch of things on the movie before it is released (you will be hounded by crazies saying you are doing it all wrong). I also recommend not posting pictures of you wearing diapers online. Stuff like that is never forgotten.
To sum all of this up, we have 2 fan films on the way. One that has had its off notes in the past, a creator who has a lot of issues to work out personally, and has been in the works for years with little to show. However it is being animated, not CGed, it is more based off SatAM, and if it gets out and does well it will show everyone that the under dog can still do things if him and his team work hard. Good luck Rich.
The other fan film is new, but with a credited creator, a legendary voice actor, and a solid team that has already released fan films such as the Mega Man one. However it is being CGed, I'm not sure if its going to follow SatAM to well, or more the games and or comic. It could also turn out to be its own weird little niche in the Sonic fandom. Separate from all other Sonic titles.
So I would like to know your views on this. Which movie do you think stands a better chance? Which one will the public be more tuned into? Which one will make its release first? Does having Jaleel White seal the deal for Eddie's movie? Or is it just a gimmick to publicize that project more?
Id like to hear everyone's opinions on this. Lets try to keep the topic civil, I know some of you have your own personal views on one of the creators but lets just discuss this in a professional way basing everything on what we know of each movie and crew.

A.) Write a script or B.) Finance a movie.
These other guys clearly know what they're doing on the other hand. And they've got the veritable "last footage of Bela Lugosi", in the voice of Jaleel White. I'd be surprised if their movie was SatAM based at all. Since Jaleel played sonic in 3 different continuities and generic game sonic would just be easier to make and more recognizable to a wider audience; whatever the comparative merits of the continuities may be.

Now, a while back I had a look at a third draft of his script and overall I was unimpressed. It felt like a watered down abriged SatAM with some nods to the games. The lack of characters such as Rotor, Antone, Snively and even the SWATbots is a real bummer... But one of my biggest gripes was just how dark he made it at points. People die on screen, someone burns to death, some blood... That's... just not Sonic to me. Oh, and the ending... God, I hope he fixed the ending...
Look, I wish him the best on this thing, but he really needs to get his act together. I remember I tried giving him ideas, like if he can't get the money for the film, just make the film in animatic form for free and give the fans that, and maybe if it got praise, he could get some help for the feature sequels. He shot the idea down, saying it would spoil everything. I then suggested that he should use the 300 dollars to get a minute of animation, rather than wait for the 1200 for a five minute.
Frankly, I just want to see what what thing will look like in animation form. So far, I've liked the art direction for the project, and I'll probably check it out just for the animation.
Though, the one I'm actually looking forward to is the live action one. I love traditional animation as much as the next guy, but I'm actually really curious about how this will work. It sounds like it's not based on anything outside of the games, so I don't know what to expect... and that's just it. I know what to expect from Kuta's project, while this one is more of a mystery... And it's only going to be 20 minutes, so if it's horrid, it will be done and over with before you know it. As for the 3D animation... again, I'm a huge 2D junkie, but I love 3D just as much. Yeah, these days it's whored out like crazy, but it's still impressive work and coming from a guy who's worked with 3D modeling and animating programs, it's requires just as much time and care as any other form of animation.
... Oh, and Jaleel White. Awesome. His involvement won't save the film is it happens to suck, but the idea of hearing him voice the blue pin cushion again is really exciting.

I didn't pay much attention to that panel at first... Why is Sally fixing her massive hair? That's... not something I would expect her to do.
Yeah, from my understanding, Rotor shows up later on down the line, though I don't think Antone or Snively will, and the SWATbots are deemed to cliche, yet from I heard he plans on including Rouge and Shadow at some point.
...Huh.

Well the above 3 don't serve his fetish fuel needs obviously
I mean... quit criticizing art so perfect you can't possibly understand it! Just give all your money to his project, nothing more important needs it. And or support/feed/cloth/change him if you happen to be an attractive young woman with a large amount of disposable income and unfathomable self-hatred. *
Sorry couldn't resist injecting a bit of humor into the topic
*As outlined in his recent adoption request/ad. Well, except for that last part. But that was implied I think it's safe to say.

The other one... I haven't been following it closely. (I don't know if Sniv's in that one, either) I'm not sure I like the computer animated thing, myself. I'm a fan of good ole hand animation. (I don't hate the CGI stuff, it's just taking over everrrrrything) Seems it's got a better chance of being made then the Kuta one.
EDIT: Ok, I read the quick synopsis and see it's more of a game-centered plot with cameos from different universes. It's hard to compare it plot-wise to something that was supposed to be fully 'SatAM'...
I'm not sure I WANT to know why you were looking at that.

Sort of like what happened to Kuta. You do realize that this is probably going to be live-action with a CG Sonic, right? Because, that's what Eddie Lebron usually does. That alone is enough for people here to go nuts about him 'doing it wrong'.

I'm all for CGI as long as they don't half ass it.
Here's a good example of some nice 3D Sonic animation.

I think one of the only CG movies I like to the point of saying it was a masterpiece is Final Fantasy - The Spirits Within. It was awesome. It was done 9 years ago, and it kicked ass.

Lol saw it when someone redirected me to "ye page which shall not be named" (I guess?) to listen to an interview he'd had with Diaper Radio, which was pretty hilarious and of course self contradicting as hell. Though if he can be knocked out by being hit on the head with diapers it would explain a lot....

At this point I'd trust fans to do a better job with SatAM than most professionals, provided that they're the right fans. (There are a million reasons why Richard Kuta is so emphatically not one of the right fans, though. As for this other guy... no idea.)

Diaper Radio?? Hell, just when I thought my hate for humanity had reached its boundaries...
(Personally I don't care about people's fetishes so long as they're not hurting anyone or animals. But still, diapers and stuff like that creep me the hell out))
A SoniC moVie would rule, wooT
