@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 11:25 AM)

Also I still have to figure out how to set up our e-mail accounts on the new host.

@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 08:19 AM)

As soon as I figure out how to restore it. Sorry, I know I said it'd be done by now, but I didn't expect to have to put up with this DNS crap and other issues that popped up.

@  Uncle Ben : (24 July 2015 - 07:56 AM)

So when's the black theme coming back??

@  Uncle Ben : (24 July 2015 - 07:56 AM)

"Should"

@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 07:27 AM)

That DNS took longer to propagate properly than I thought it would. *Now* we should be back for good, though.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 08:48 PM)

Or it might be because Bluehost *finally* got around to that server wipe (one week after we'd asked for it) and that wiped out our DNS settings. I'm not sure which and I don't really care. In any case, we've severed our last ties with Bluehost, so this will not happen again.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 08:08 PM)

Looks like Bluehost yanked our DNS since our hosting account expired. That's why the site went down a while ago. But as you can see, it's fixed now.

@  Misk : (23 July 2015 - 04:55 PM)

No, they do not.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 04:27 AM)

The goggles do nothing?

@  Misk : (22 July 2015 - 05:50 PM)

My eyes.

@  furrykef : (22 July 2015 - 12:24 PM)

Looks like forum uploads might have been broken since last night. That should be fixed now too.

@  furrykef : (22 July 2015 - 01:33 AM)

Heh, whoops! Server went down for a few mins when I borked the config. Looks like it's back up now.

@  Uncle Ben : (21 July 2015 - 09:09 PM)

It looked like a napkin

@  ILOVEVHS : (21 July 2015 - 09:04 PM)

Fan-fuckin-tastic.

@  furrykef : (21 July 2015 - 08:25 PM)

As for the beaver picture while the forum was down, I think Tim drew it. On a napkin.

@  furrykef : (21 July 2015 - 08:24 PM)

No kiddin' about that "Finally!", Shadow. I am *so mad* at Bluehost for never responding to our support ticket. I submitted it early Friday morning and they *still* haven't answered it!

@  Uncle Ben : (21 July 2015 - 06:37 PM)

Maybe he did that himself

@  Shadow : (21 July 2015 - 05:25 PM)

Say, who made the cute picture of Beaver Chief?

@  Shadow : (21 July 2015 - 05:24 PM)

Finally!

@  RedMenace : (21 July 2015 - 05:02 PM)

Woooo! The site's back up! Three cheers for Kef!

The very essence of what makes curse words and racial slurs offensive to people has absolutely nothing to do with the word itself, far as I've ever been able to tell. Sure it's probably immature to kid around with these kinds of things, but I actually think it's more immature to get offended over when people are using them but obviously only taking the piss. The clincher is the obvious intent behind the employment of the words. Basically, if you're saying "What's up nigga" with a smile or a laugh, then no one should have any reason to get offended. If someone gets called a "black piece of shit" with a straight face, then I take a step back.

I find it ridiculous that people can get offended so easily over mere words. One could argue that they're not just mere words and there's meaning behind them, but I'll argue back that there's only meaning behind them if it's imbued in those words through the tone in which they are spoken.

Pretty sure I'm just recapping stuff that others would've said in this thread already, but meh. tongue.gif

It's just a word. I'll make no apologies for using it in a very obvious joking fashion. Using such words to insult and discriminate someone? That's totally different, and I would hope after ten years of taking the piss on FUS people here could tell the bloody difference without getting their knickers twisted. *Sigh* There's a time and a place for everything I suppose.

No no no. Joking about anything is a national pastime here, not just skin colours. It should be a national pastime in every country, really. More humour, less wars, and no Michael Moore.

This isn't the first time I've commented on your legendary sig, but it pretty much sums up Australian cultural sensitivities in general, at least among the youth.

A few years back, I made a level for Duke Nukem 3D that included a Centrelink office. It had 3 queues, one for student inquiries, one for work inquiries, and one for Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander inquiries which was intentionally 10x longer than all the rest. lol

I do agree with the everyone should make fun of everyone thing. Then everyone is truly even. All open game. As long as it is done in fun at least. But again, if someone doesn't want in on that.. Then its their choice and I respect that too.

Humor is a good thing and should be abundant. It's healthy. But one thing we should never lose is respect. There has to be a balance between the two.

See, I agree with chief and John. I think people should loosen up and joke about things. It's a good way to go through life. (In fact, I think it's been scientifically proven you live longer if you do loosen up). I joke. That's who I am, and everyone who knows me knows that. Now if I were being deliberately racist, then that's a different thing. At which point, I wouldn't even be an admin if I were a snotty little shit like that. Like chief said though, if someone doesn't want in on that joking and such, then I respect that. Chief and I toss racial jokes back at forth at each other and we never get bent out of shape about it, but that's just us. I hear people talk about "gooks" and "chinks", and I am never offended because it's not directed towards me. Sure, someone being genuinely racist like that is tasteless. But anyway, I understand people aren't like me. I'm told racial slurs is a heavy subject for some people, so I'm under the assumption Mr Knockout was offended by it? So I'm sorry if Mr Knockout disliked my joking at least only because he doesn't like his topics getting derailed and if I've offended him too. But I'm not sorry for being myself. I'm not going to rewrite my DNA for anyone.

By the way, I think making fun of everything is a national past time in any country. ohmy.gif

Alright, sorry for thinking you guys didn't do much. But come on, is this what you guys do with your free time? Deliberately insulting the very topic I discussed? I sure hope you didn't think we would actually laugh at that. I don't care what or how you make fun of things in your country or where ever, but from what I know, there is nothing funny about that word or racial jokes. Too many races have gone through horrible trials and can never be humorous. This is one fucked up forum if this whole topic is just material for jokes.

Its all just different peoples opinions on certain matters that all. But this topic is getting kinda de railed from its original point. Partly from miss placed jokes, partly from other junk. This was also a touchy topic in the first place so.. I kinda figured I would do this eventually.

Funny thing is, I used to know a guy who I assume was black (I assume) because he showed me pictures occasionally of himself (I assume), and who spoke in ebonics. He frequently used nigga in its friendly term, and commented on the difference between nigga and nigger. My stance on it is that if the minority the slur is aimed at are comfortable using it, then it's okay - at least to a degree.

I once tried using it in its lighthearted form but I'm not very good at getting away with these things and was promptly dog-housed. I've no plans to make that mistake again. But I think that's more my inability to get away with these things *shrugs*

Truth is, though, nothing quite screamed Whitey like the way he spoke and the psychology with which he acted. As ebonic as Alabama he may have been, but it still felt absurdly put-on.

And I thought I came across a honkey.
