@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 11:25 AM)

Also I still have to figure out how to set up our e-mail accounts on the new host.

@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 08:19 AM)

As soon as I figure out how to restore it. Sorry, I know I said it'd be done by now, but I didn't expect to have to put up with this DNS crap and other issues that popped up.

@  Uncle Ben : (24 July 2015 - 07:56 AM)

So when's the black theme coming back??

@  Uncle Ben : (24 July 2015 - 07:56 AM)

"Should"

@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 07:27 AM)

That DNS took longer to propagate properly than I thought it would. *Now* we should be back for good, though.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 08:48 PM)

Or it might be because Bluehost *finally* got around to that server wipe (one week after we'd asked for it) and that wiped out our DNS settings. I'm not sure which and I don't really care. In any case, we've severed our last ties with Bluehost, so this will not happen again.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 08:08 PM)

Looks like Bluehost yanked our DNS since our hosting account expired. That's why the site went down a while ago. But as you can see, it's fixed now.

@  Misk : (23 July 2015 - 04:55 PM)

No, they do not.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 04:27 AM)

The goggles do nothing?

@  Misk : (22 July 2015 - 05:50 PM)

My eyes.

@  furrykef : (22 July 2015 - 12:24 PM)

Looks like forum uploads might have been broken since last night. That should be fixed now too.

@  furrykef : (22 July 2015 - 01:33 AM)

Heh, whoops! Server went down for a few mins when I borked the config. Looks like it's back up now.

@  Uncle Ben : (21 July 2015 - 09:09 PM)

It looked like a napkin

@  ILOVEVHS : (21 July 2015 - 09:04 PM)

Fan-fuckin-tastic.

@  furrykef : (21 July 2015 - 08:25 PM)

As for the beaver picture while the forum was down, I think Tim drew it. On a napkin.

@  furrykef : (21 July 2015 - 08:24 PM)

No kiddin' about that "Finally!", Shadow. I am *so mad* at Bluehost for never responding to our support ticket. I submitted it early Friday morning and they *still* haven't answered it!

@  Uncle Ben : (21 July 2015 - 06:37 PM)

Maybe he did that himself

@  Shadow : (21 July 2015 - 05:25 PM)

Say, who made the cute picture of Beaver Chief?

@  Shadow : (21 July 2015 - 05:24 PM)

Finally!

@  RedMenace : (21 July 2015 - 05:02 PM)

Woooo! The site's back up! Three cheers for Kef!

For a show that routinely breaks the laws of physics, I think it would be better that it not be a future Earth.

Willful suspension of belief is one thing. A sound barrier breaking hedgehog, time travelling stones, floating islands, a two tailed fox that flies, and a machine that turns you into a robot are a whole lotta of other things.

At some point, any logic is going to fail when trying to examine stuff in SatAM, as we're examining a cartoon loosely based on a videogame. Remember: All worlds in our universe are going to be following the same laws of physics. To be able to plausibly escape them, you're going to have to go with the "alternate universe" angle. Presumably, the general idea of this topic is to discuss this without it becoming an exercise in futility...

For some reason I like the idea of Mobius being Earth in the future. I just find the idea of Sonic, and his friends living on the same world as us kind of neat.

Personally I always thought of Mobius as an alternate Earth. It is a completely different planet, but the steps of evolution (or how we came to be) happened similarly to almost borderline the same way as Earth. Obviously it had to have some differences otherwise it would have turned out the same.

However I am pretty sure Ben Hurst had plans to make Mobius a future Earth.

I hope for the Mobians' sake it isn't your sock or underwear drawer.

I find the alien world idea more appealing. Since Mobius isn't subject to our laws of physics, I think it makes sense to conclude that it is in a different universe. Sure, the animals resemble humanoid forms of life on Earth, but a lot of the connections are superficial. Hedgehogs can't move at super sonic speed. Foxes can't achieve flight in the sense that a bird can. And, as far as we know, humans are the only animals that can talk. There might be some planet in our universe that resembles Mobius, or the Earth might become that way some day, but there is nothing the same.

Granted, by my logic, 90% of action movies don't take place on our Earth.

Well it could also be Earth of an alternate universe, sorta like Marvel or DC.

Or, if you really wanna get into the headache-inducing logic: Mobius might not exist in any form of reality. It may just be part of a dream, or a VR simulation. Or even [gasp!] part of a cartoon!

Taking it a step further: Long ago, I fist heard of the theory that perhaps the act of creating (or even thinking about) fiction also creates the subjects of that fiction, in a new universe (or as extensions of a pre-existing universe, for stuff like new characters and stories about that universe, by its creator). In this way, there may be countless real Mobiuses (or whatever the plural of "Mobius" is), each with their own universe. Some are future Earths, some are alien planets. Some are both and/or neither...

In the end, it's really a matter of just how far you wanna take it and how outlandish an idea you're willing to accept as an answer...

In my fanfic, Mobious is the inside of the earth (hallow earth theory) http://en.wikipedia....Hollow_Earthand the Mobians are the decadents of animals the Nazis experimented on. I've gotten a lot of flak for using Nazis as the Mobians' "creators" but so much about them just fit the storyline...especially the hallow earth setting. The Nazis went looking for it and some say they found it http://www.youtube.c...?v=QFmdpgdVYcE.

Some say that creating a race of biped animals is beyond Nazi technology but they did break the sound barrier before the Americans did; and when you write a story with blue taking hedgehogs, reality kind of goes out the window. Apparently the Nazis were highly against experimenting on animals, but maybe not all of them were and maybe the ones that went to the earth's interior were not. All the stuff in Sonic X with the Space Colony Ark just screams Nazi science to me. Maria looks suspiciously like the Aryan poster child. I'm sure that's really just a coincidence when Sega came up with her design; but in my story, I'm using it to my advantage.

It seems too contrived to be future earth. Much easier as its own world that shares similarities to earths creatures.

I think altered earth sounds more accurate, but that's just me.

If Mobius came to be due to the Xorda war, leading to bombs and radiation, then that would definitely alter the Earth as we know it.

I always thought it was future earth, since Downunda=Australia, and the SatAM area=North America, plus angel island could very well be ATLANTIS!

Or, I hope one day NASA gets the funding to go into deep space, and finds actual mobius, and gains relations with real Mobians. Then, when vacationing there comes into mind, every furries' dream will be fulfilled....or we'll get barbequed by "normal" people beforehand.

The concept of Mobius as "future Earth" always appealed to me, since it reminds me of the golden age of the Archie comic, which I'll always have a soft spot for. Loved imagining Knuckles and some of the other Floating Island characters as having Australian accents, loved the "Tales of the Great War" storyline that set up the Overlanders, etc.

Granted, my interest in that idea waned upon them trying to prop up the whole Xorda thing, but the original idea interested me a lot back in the day. I still remember getting the "Brave New World" special in a Waldenbooks in the mall years ago, and being so psyched to see the Map of Mobius that overlapped nicely with a map of Earth.

Ah. Some new discussion. Not sure how I missed this...

The problem with bringing something like the Hollow Earth theory into the equation is that it's false. The earth is not hollow. It's full of magma. So, the atmosphere of Mobius would then be molten rock... Thus, Mobius isn't inside of Earth.
