@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 11:25 AM)

Also I still have to figure out how to set up our e-mail accounts on the new host.

@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 08:19 AM)

As soon as I figure out how to restore it. Sorry, I know I said it'd be done by now, but I didn't expect to have to put up with this DNS crap and other issues that popped up.

@  Uncle Ben : (24 July 2015 - 07:56 AM)

So when's the black theme coming back??

@  Uncle Ben : (24 July 2015 - 07:56 AM)

"Should"

@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 07:27 AM)

That DNS took longer to propagate properly than I thought it would. *Now* we should be back for good, though.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 08:48 PM)

Or it might be because Bluehost *finally* got around to that server wipe (one week after we'd asked for it) and that wiped out our DNS settings. I'm not sure which and I don't really care. In any case, we've severed our last ties with Bluehost, so this will not happen again.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 08:08 PM)

Looks like Bluehost yanked our DNS since our hosting account expired. That's why the site went down a while ago. But as you can see, it's fixed now.

@  Misk : (23 July 2015 - 04:55 PM)

No, they do not.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 04:27 AM)

The goggles do nothing?

@  Misk : (22 July 2015 - 05:50 PM)

My eyes.

@  furrykef : (22 July 2015 - 12:24 PM)

Looks like forum uploads might have been broken since last night. That should be fixed now too.

@  furrykef : (22 July 2015 - 01:33 AM)

Heh, whoops! Server went down for a few mins when I borked the config. Looks like it's back up now.

@  Uncle Ben : (21 July 2015 - 09:09 PM)

It looked like a napkin

@  ILOVEVHS : (21 July 2015 - 09:04 PM)

Fan-fuckin-tastic.

@  furrykef : (21 July 2015 - 08:25 PM)

As for the beaver picture while the forum was down, I think Tim drew it. On a napkin.

@  furrykef : (21 July 2015 - 08:24 PM)

No kiddin' about that "Finally!", Shadow. I am *so mad* at Bluehost for never responding to our support ticket. I submitted it early Friday morning and they *still* haven't answered it!

@  Uncle Ben : (21 July 2015 - 06:37 PM)

Maybe he did that himself

@  Shadow : (21 July 2015 - 05:25 PM)

Say, who made the cute picture of Beaver Chief?

@  Shadow : (21 July 2015 - 05:24 PM)

Finally!

@  RedMenace : (21 July 2015 - 05:02 PM)

Woooo! The site's back up! Three cheers for Kef!

People here may or may not know of me. My name is Roareye Black, long term Sonic pixel artist, one of the first communicators with SEGA Europe, one of the first people at Sonic UK meetups, one of the people who helps run Summer of Sonic and many other things. I wouldn't normally say all this, but it needs to be said due to other similar projects causing dramas and getting nowhere XP My name is not Richard Kuta. lol

So what is this all about? Well, there was a character in SatAM who was at one point called Dirk. He has a resemblance to Sam Fisher from Splinter Cell, does the same actions (Flying, parachuting, ziplining) in is even roboticised in his first appearance and returns unscathed! This bear, is SatAM Fisher. The one and only. Master of espionage and beaten down Freedom Fighter. If he is so good, why does he get captured twice (Blast To The Past Part 1 and The Doomsday Project)? You'll have to wait for the cartoon series to find out wink.gif

So what is there I can say about the project? Well, it will begin with Sonic Boom (An episode you may recall doesn't show SatAM Fisher in it in the original episode, and the first real loss for the Freedom Fighters - Cat). The purpose of the series is to fill in backstory for SatAM using the original storylines and some new ones too, which gives the whole SatAM experience more depth and life. It is very rare you see or hear of other Freedom Fighters just doing their thing, or hard at work in Robotropolis, and the only times you do are when they become major plot points. But of course, to defeat an evil like Robotnik would require more than just one small band led by "the rodent". Enter SatAM Fisher...

This series is being produced by Dark Dreams Studios, my studio with art friend and co-ideologist Miranda Ketchen. Miranda is in charge of all background painted artworks as well as all animations, I am in charge of writing, producing, editting and all other tasks.
- It is a Full HD 1080p cartoon spinoff to Sonic SatAM, starring the bear character SatAM Fisher (Codename Dirk on certain missions, more explained during the series).
- It is being developed using traditional animation techniques in a digital medium (Like the new Disney Princess and the Frog film), and will not utilise Flash in any way, shape or form. Each background painting is developed digitally, with digitally hand drawn animation cells layered on top and saved as a 1920x1080 image file. That file is then shipped to me, who then arranges the complete frame in time and order in the movie program and syncs all audio and visual cues (Usually set by myself too as the writer).
- Each background painting is at least 1920x1080 in size (Often bigger for camera pans etc) and rendered in high quality.
- The story will interweave with Sonic SatAM in several places, not least the episodes where SatAM Fisher already canonically starred (Blast To The Past Part 1 and The Doomsday Project), but will follow it's own story curve so those new to SatAM will be able to follow it without prior knowledge. There will be plenty of references and connections to classic SatAM to make the long term fans happy.
- The story will not conflict with already set SatAM canon, as a fan myself (and as a good writer) I would not dream of trying to damage the original canon of the series. That would be silly.

So that's all very well and good. Impressive maybe? I know what you're all thinking however. It's all very well and good to say about a project, and even easier to blurt on and on about this sort of extravagant and certainly interesting fan series. But we need evidence that it actually exists, and that it is currently in the making.

All too happy to oblige, my friends, so find below three pieces of art that may whet your appetite and prove that this is already in development. These come from 4 days of work on the series, so be assured that there is plenty more to come.

SatAM Fisher Title Card Frame 1
The link above will take you to a 1920x1080 image of the SatAM Fisher title card. The green and black in the background rotate the same as the yellow and blue in the Sonic SatAM title card, but I'm only going to give you the one frame. This animation sequence is completed already, however.

Animated Storyboard of start of Intro Video
This shot clip is an animated storyboard of the first 8 seconds of the opening theme titles. It doesn't last 8 seconds here, but we learnt how many frames we needed for each section of the animation so now the full thing is in progress. The actual background is the same as the original Sonic SatAM opening but it will have a slightly different start as you can see.
- Instead of Sonic bursting out, swatbots burst out.
- Instead of fast panning right, it fast pans up.
- Instead of later, Robotnik's mothership flies overhead right at the start (In Sonic SatAM you only get the shadow until the point he points it out to Uncle Chuck)
- What happens after? Well I will reveal that all scenes in the SatAM Fisher intro, like Sonic SatAM are unique to the intro and won't be used in the episodes, and will show Fisher's daughter being taken (to be roboticised).

Work In Progress Forest Painting 35-50% complete
As you can see this is far from completion, but it IS a 1920x10,000 sized picture!
Not much else to say except you can get an idea of what we're doing with the artwork wink.gif

Hope that whets your appetite for the project biggrin.gif

Roareye Black.

I am kinda interested in this.. Especially how the story will follow the other Freedom Fighters and not just the 'main group'.

I'll be honest... Ive never looked foreword to really any SatAM reserection, movie, or whatever Matt Sulivin was trying to do.. I just didn't care much. Maybe because they really had no proof of what they were doing, besides some junk. This however might have something to it. I doubt you need anything, but my site does have a lot of information on SatAM, as well as a lot of members here know a lot more then me, and get a lot more into these things. But feel free to use FUS however you might like for information if needed or anything like that. Although, as the project is already going how it seems to be I doubt you will need anything else from here or us.

Anyways, good luck to you and your studio.

Actually, how are copy write issues with all this? I'm not positive if you are just doing this as a non profit fan project, or will a station actually pick you and your studio up? And if so, what does SEGA, DIC, and whoever else think of this? CookieJar I think is the other one.
I'm not familiar eith copywrite laws or any of this, as you may have noticed, so maybe I am wrong and these companies won't care as its not exactly following the official SatAM show, more of a side story to the main thing.

But, good luck sir.

Well I'm glad to catch your interest smile.gif Did not hear of Matt Sullivan, but did hear of Richard Kuta. Quite a lot. I am well aware of how many people jump into Sonic forums from nowhere (Especially SatAM ones) and give the great grandeur statements of how they will revive SatAM, or make a SatAM movie, and it will be great and all official and SEGA will publish it with maybe DiC and the rights are practically in the bag... yadda yadda yadda. Always reviving Season 3 or the movie.

While that would be cool, it's too easy. I've always been a lateral thinker, and the concept of SatAM Fisher began as a joke starting 3 years ago on SSMB. There was a "Be a Sonic Character" week there, to change your profile avatar and sig to a Sonic character. All the good characters were taken, so while watching the SatAM box set (And playing Splinter Cell Double Agent at the time) I noticed the bear and knew his calling xD
It wasn't until the Alton Towers trip a week and a half ago that the joke of SatAM Fisher was resurrected and I jokingly told Kevin Eva/AAUK (Sega Head of Sonic PR and a personal friend of mine) that he should do everything in his power to put SatAM Fisher in Sonic 4! Everyone joined in (Because we do like to annoy AAUK xD), just for the lulz, but when I got home everyone was still talking about him. I made a comedy trailer using a Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory trailer audio with SatAM video clips, and a Facebook Fan Page which took off. Then it crossed my mind what this character needed : A Cartoon Series.

I began creating ideas for scripts, and when I realised I could create some surprisingly in-depth storylines and really make something unique using this character I knew I wanted to make it, but wanted to know I would have a great artist and animator (As that's not my strength at all). My new studio co-worker Miranda Ketchen (though we've unofficially worked together for 4 years already!) was the only person really on my mind, and she decided it was a great idea! So we decided to use the opportunity and start on this series. You can see the results above, though obviously there is more to come.

There will be some revelations throughout the series, and since my main writing style in any genre is thriller, you can expect some rather gripping storylines and some surprising depth to the overall story arc. I also have plans for a specific episode, but I won't reveal anything on it in case it isn't possible to do. I'd rather the current information available is enough to garner interest smile.gif

Thanks, I may request a few things here and there. I am going to need voice actors (At the moment the paramount voice to find is a good Snively), as I am going to have all the vocals as new voice acted recordings. Using voice clips from the show is both messy and restrictive. I am going to practice at Robotnik myself and I already have a voice in mind for SatAM Fisher. I will post voice samples of my Robotnik at some point to see what you guys think after some more practice.
Also you have a picture on FUS of the Freedom Fighters (Including SatAM Fisher!) all doing a high-five. I don't recall that from The Doomsday Project. Where is it from? Or did I just miss it?

Okay, I have worked in TV, I have contacts in SEGA, and as you can see there is a lot of passion and hard labour being put into this show. So will it be picked up by a TV station? No. This is a non-profit fan project. I'm under no illusions about my place with this project. Don't get me wrong, if SEGA and DiC etc all love it and want to publish it I will be honoured and will see what we can do about getting it out there in TV and such, but the chances of that are slim at best. I'm not going to rile people or lie by suggesting this is official, that it is going to be on TV at a Saturday morning near you. It won't be, at least there's no plans for that. So as far as rights and copyright are concerned, we're pretty clear.

Having said that, I am looking into the rights for musics, characters and such to see what the price is for hiring those rights. I have a background in theatre and know that hiring rights for plays are on average £78-£95 per performance, so for music rights I'm hoping it's a shade under that cost per episode, same for character rights. The issue with SatAM is the mixture of people who hold the rights for different bits (Sega, Cookie Jar, DiC and likely Jetix who own the rights to all new Sonic Merch until that contract ends, stupidly signed over by SEGA when they made the contract for Sonic X). I am looking into seeing if I need any rights to publish a fan-made series online (The only one I think I need for that is the music rights, because I don't think they're company-owned) and also if I can get the rights to publish a Blu-Ray of them when the series is finished. Even if I charge the amount it costs to make a Blu-Ray only, I could run into legal issues if I don't cover every angle. But such is the life of the producer tongue.gif

This, as far as myself and Miranda are currently concerned, will be a very polished fan series. We will use it as part of a portfolio of work by our Studio (Alongside novels, publicity artwork, scriptwork and comic books) to show how freaking awesome a team myself and Miranda make. We are hoping to have the first episode complete in time for a possible Summer of Sonic reveal, so it is the first published project by DDS (Followed by the first theatrical script performed, Cosmic Resonance in June 2011). But since it will be revealed at a SEGA supported event, AAUK will know lots about it, and hopefully it will have fans, maybe something will come of it. But I'm certainly not putting any eggs in that basket until we're approached, as it's much more likely that nothing will happen at all. Either way we still would have an HD cartoon fully animated using traditional techniques under our portfolio of work, which will be a mighty impressive thing to add. wink.gif

We do have a full cast of Voice Actors from another project of ours in the works if need be; I'm sure they would love to pimp themselves out. Though, our Bunnie and Robotnik actors may be a problem as they aren't frequent members here, and quite hard to contact. We also have two very decent music composers.

Interesting project. I like when seemingly uninteresting characters get a whole backstory. As long as you put a lot of effort in this one character and make him likeable, I'm looking forward to it.

People say my Antoine-impression is good, but I'm afraid that's all I can do.

Well, I wouldn't say I'm sane. I'm doing an HD cartoon project on a bloody background character bear! xD
But I do at least have an understanding of just how official a cartoon like this can be, and the truth is not very. That is no excuse not to go all the way quality-wise. But this helps the fanbase (Which is in dire need of a sense of humour. Have you SEEN the Sonic 4 topics on almost every forum? "Sonic's eyes are green, childhood raped ;o;!!!!" "Sonic can't have fun, cos his fun would contradict the fun defined in Sonic Heroes as his fun of fundom in the land of fun. So no fun." etc etc)
Luckily the majority of people I know, and the people I do SoS with, are all on the level and game for a laugh. But my God there are such a huge amount of whiners.

I like the attention to detail given to the weapons. The pistol and the rifle are recognizable from the series. And the pistol only appeared once (and barely at that).

Two presently.
Miranda will make all the background paintings, all the animation cells and arrange each frame as a still image.
I will write every episode, edit together all the footage, arrange music and sound effects in time, direct the voice acting, act as producer (Including seeking out legalities), and promoting the series.

We will be fine for the most part, but obviously we need more people as time goes on. Currently I need a musician, and I need to look for voice actors (Of which I see you have several).

So what I currently need;
A musician to try and do this Sonic theme in this Splinter Cell style. It would be nice to see what they can do with it lyrics-wise, but otherwise I am happy with instrumental because I know the two styles will be hard to merge as it is.

And I need to hear some voice samples of possible voice actors attempting to be Robotnik and Snively.

If people could get back to me in this topic if they are interested, I would be most grateful ^_____^

I'd be most interested in doing this. I've been trying but it's indeed pretty hard. Do you want it to sound threatening like Splinter Cell or 'victorious' like SatAM? Do you want heavy guitars or muted? Do you want me to copy the guitar riff from SatAM?
