@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 11:25 AM)

Also I still have to figure out how to set up our e-mail accounts on the new host.

@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 08:19 AM)

As soon as I figure out how to restore it. Sorry, I know I said it'd be done by now, but I didn't expect to have to put up with this DNS crap and other issues that popped up.

@  Uncle Ben : (24 July 2015 - 07:56 AM)

So when's the black theme coming back??

@  Uncle Ben : (24 July 2015 - 07:56 AM)

"Should"

@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 07:27 AM)

That DNS took longer to propagate properly than I thought it would. *Now* we should be back for good, though.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 08:48 PM)

Or it might be because Bluehost *finally* got around to that server wipe (one week after we'd asked for it) and that wiped out our DNS settings. I'm not sure which and I don't really care. In any case, we've severed our last ties with Bluehost, so this will not happen again.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 08:08 PM)

Looks like Bluehost yanked our DNS since our hosting account expired. That's why the site went down a while ago. But as you can see, it's fixed now.

@  Misk : (23 July 2015 - 04:55 PM)

No, they do not.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 04:27 AM)

The goggles do nothing?

@  Misk : (22 July 2015 - 05:50 PM)

My eyes.

@  furrykef : (22 July 2015 - 12:24 PM)

Looks like forum uploads might have been broken since last night. That should be fixed now too.

@  furrykef : (22 July 2015 - 01:33 AM)

Heh, whoops! Server went down for a few mins when I borked the config. Looks like it's back up now.

@  Uncle Ben : (21 July 2015 - 09:09 PM)

It looked like a napkin

@  ILOVEVHS : (21 July 2015 - 09:04 PM)

Fan-fuckin-tastic.

@  furrykef : (21 July 2015 - 08:25 PM)

As for the beaver picture while the forum was down, I think Tim drew it. On a napkin.

@  furrykef : (21 July 2015 - 08:24 PM)

No kiddin' about that "Finally!", Shadow. I am *so mad* at Bluehost for never responding to our support ticket. I submitted it early Friday morning and they *still* haven't answered it!

@  Uncle Ben : (21 July 2015 - 06:37 PM)

Maybe he did that himself

@  Shadow : (21 July 2015 - 05:25 PM)

Say, who made the cute picture of Beaver Chief?

@  Shadow : (21 July 2015 - 05:24 PM)

Finally!

@  RedMenace : (21 July 2015 - 05:02 PM)

Woooo! The site's back up! Three cheers for Kef!

QUOTE (John Roberts @ Dec 10 2009, 06:29 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I... went a watched the first Twilight movie the other night. Other than 'oh god, oh god why?', I have to say I don't get the appeal. Why does this crap have so many women wet between the legs? It's not even a decent romance movie. I'll go re-watch The Notebook or The Lake house, thank you very much. And as for the Vampires? Geez, what a pack of wusses.

Yak. I've no idea. Really, I don't.

"It's like a lion fell in love with a lamb."

I cannot understand how the actor managed to say that with a straight face. Or how anyone could find such a, frankly condescending, remark romantic.

Mmph. You know, I saw some video footage once of a lioness who had adopted a gazelle lamb and was doing her best to look after it, although she kept nearly going for it whenever it made any sudden moves. You could see she was ambiguous about looking after it, but look after it she did. I think she'd lost her cubs a few days previously.

It was a sad story, actually: she unwittingly attracted a male lion who killed and ate the lamb, and she was pretty distressed afterwards.

Twilight sure doesn't get me wet. I don't know why it does for any other woman. tongue.gif Something just downright repulsive about that movie. Like I said, I love romances, but I just detest that movie for some reason.

It's probably the fact that everyone in the movie is socially awkward. Everyone seems uncomfortable around everyone, and I'm starting to think it isn't just the way they're 'supposed' to act... I think it's real.

I mean, it's understandable at first since the main character moves to a new town and everything, and barely knows anyone, but after a few months (or however long the movie spans), you'd think they'd get over it after interacting for such a long period.

Then there's the obvious relationship lies that keep getting spewed:

"I want to be with you forever." *next scene* "I'm leaving, you'll never see me again."

"I know what he did to you, but I'll never do that. I'll never hurt you." *next scene* "I'm keeping my promise, but only halfway. I'm not hurting you, but I'm doing exactly what he did and leaving. That's how I'm not hurting you."

Then there was the brilliant fact that the love interest and his parents left the main character alone 'to protect her', when there was another vampire family out to kill her, and had been since the first movie. Seven vampires in that family that are all probably over 100 years old, yet none of them thought 'Oh shit, maybe one of us should stay behind to at least keep an eye on her and protect her from someone other than ourselves'.

So yeah, lots of poor writing and worse ideas... and Vampires playing baseball? Really? Why not have them sparring to make the first movie even vaguely exciting, as opposed to the two-minute fight scene at the end where we don't even get to watch what happened to him?

I don't really like romance and when I do, I like it kind of twisted and angsty. I think Twilight had the potential for angsty twistedness, being human X vamp after all, but it didn't live up to any of that. Edward for instance goes on about how much Bella's blood tempts him, yet there is never really a moment when it shows. Does he ever grab her, barely on the edge of control and bare his teeth at her neck, giving her a moment of terror? No. He just controls it. *yawn* There's no suspense - you never think he might actually snap.
The fact she has no fear of him is boring as well. The fact that she never grows as a character and stays the same bland, weak (she always lets him get his way, though at some times she might passive-aggressively try to 'deny' him) and boring girl.

The actors don't seem to have much chemistry, that's for sure (even tho they were supposedly dating in RL or something. Must've been one boring romance tongue.gif) And if you think the movie's bad, just remember this...it cuts a great deal of the gushing on how hot Edward is and how 'boring' Bella thinks she is. (tho she is xD) I mean, seriously, in the book, every time Edward smiled his charming 'crooked smile' there would be a paragraph at how once again, Bella realized how BEAUTIFUL AND HOT AND PERFECT AND WONDERFUL he was! Get all those paragraphs together and it probably amounted to 60% of the book xD

Also, while I think Edward's actor has his moments of looking nice, I don't get the hype over him. He's ok-looking, but half the time he looks like he just rolled out of bed and hasn't washed his hair in a week. At least, on all the magazine covers I've seen. Dude looks like a bum.

A friend of mine was just going on another forum about how that's the main draw of the Twilight books: it's not that Edward is gorgeous and oh-so-perfect, it's that he's gorgeous and oh-so-perfect and obsessed with the "ordinary" heroine who's really just a blank slate onto which impressionable readers project themselves. It's the juvenile fantasy of some stunning supernatural boytoy who's so interested in you, yes, plain old boring you, that it just melts his icy heart and makes him go to great psychotic lengths to protect you and keep himself from fucking your brains out sucking you up dry.

The whole thing is shameless wish-fulfillment.
