Meh, I think Bunnie was a pretty positive portrayal of southerners. And calling her a "redneck" just because she has an accent proves my point. Bunnie doesn't go out in a pickup truck and make circles in the mud, or drink and cuss- all while bible thumping (the parts they want to thump) incessantly. And I never saw a confederate or "rebel" flag (as almost every proud redneck I've ever known calls it) in her hut. Or a thousand other typical "redneck" activities/traits.

One of the oddest attempts to make her "redneckified" in other media actually came in the lead-up to Mecha Madness.
In which she makes a reference to the Battle of Chickamauga, which is ironic because if you asked the average redneck about said battle they wouldn't know what the fuck you were talking about.

Also, I thought "the south will rise again!" line was incredibly odd, what was the point of that? we already know she's a Southerner, it's not exactly subtle

Bunnie gives me the vibe of the warm and well-mannered (albeit not in a stuffy way) southern rather than redneck.
In Archie, at least for a short time, they had Bunnie in this red midriff plaid sort of top and really short shorts, like 'hey, she's Southern, lets dress her up like trailer trash' or something. O.o

Ever watch Last of the Mohecans? Toward the end, Hawkeye makes similar points, noting that it's more like the White Man to desire more land than one has need for and so on.

Not only is it odd, I'd like to think the writer didn't realize it, but apparently that phrase has racist conotations. I am a southern, but I didn't fully realize that. There was a controversy at Ole Miss University recently when a song they sing at football games got banned because people were shouting that phrase at the end of the song. The Klan came out to protest the decision. Here is a link to an article about it.
