Do the new horror remakes compare to the old remakes?

I mean do the remakes of Dawn of the Dead, The Hills Have Eyes, Last House on The Left, The Ring and Friday The 13th or Texas Chainsaw Massacre live up to the old 80's remakes like Invasion of the Body Snatchers 1978, The Thing, The Blob, The Fly, Night of the Living Dead or Cat People?

The recent Friday the 13 was essentially a remake of Parts 1-3. I think it's a lot better than the origional, as we're dealing with Jason being the killer, instead of his mother. Killer old ladies just don't compare to large killer psychos.
The general rule of remakes is this: If the origional was really good, the remake will suck. If the origional was bad or sub-par in general, the remake will be better. Of course, there are some movies where the whole premise sucks, so no amount of remakes will ever make it good. For an example of this last kind, go watch all of the "The Watchers" movies. Every "sequel" is actually a remake, and they all suck.

When the final final version of Star Wars is made I'll watch it one last time all in one setting. It's violent science fiction so overall we get the point.
Overall I'm not a huge fan of remakes. There's so many factors involved imo. Sometimes I don't even know who you can compare them?
Can you compare?

Halloween (2007): Given that ever since Dimension Films got ahold of the franchise and fucked around with it, to the point of reshooting and rewriting a huge chunk of the first Halloween they made, decided with the second to ignore the previous 3 movies and their storyline (thus insulting Donald Pleasance) and with the third they made having Michael Myers go up against Busta Rhymes, a remake seemed like the only choice, otherwise they'd end up with something like Jason Takes Manhattan.... Oh wait they did... But anway, Rob Zombie's reimagining of the original added very little really except for all the stuff of young Michael in the mental hospital. The film did have a nice selection of cast members, some in supporting roles, others in cameos, Danielle Harris, Brad Dourif, Ken Foree, Danny Trejo, Adrienne Barbeau and Malcolm McDowell. I prefer the workprint compared to the release version.
Night of the Living Dead (1990): Say what you will about NotLD90, but this is one of my personal favourite remakes. Nothing wrong with the original at all, but the remake takes the original and seems to do everything they couldn't do with the original. Plus there was a reason for remaking it as the original lacked a copyright and Romero and everyone who worked on the original got nothing from the profits the original made and still makes. A couple of years ago there was another remake which sucked serious bullshit (no one from the original or the 1990 remake were involved) and there's word yet another remake is in the work.
The Thing (1982) Not so much of a remake in my book as it followed the original short story "Who Goes There?" then the 50's flick did/could do. John Carpenter did an outstanding job as a director while Rob Bottin and his crew did a awesome job with the creature effects, doing some crazy shit which still looks impressive today.
King Kong (2005): I can see why they remade it, seeing as the original 1933 classic is nearly 80 years old, but the original still holds up to day, it's a perfect slice of old 30's cinema. 2005 Kong on the other hand is not one of those perfect slices. Plus it was over 3 fucking hours long! Did they really need to pad the run time by double?! God, I wish Peter Jackson would do more stuff like his earlier work...
Day of the Dead (2008): Oh fuck you!
"The Devil Inside is the new scam from director William Something Something. The movie stars actors and was edited on a computer. Somewhere. This movie is the latest film in a series of very low budget films designed to look like real movies! And be released in theaters to make a quick buck via a horribly off kilter budget to profit ratio that the general public seem to be stupidly unaware of! These films use to be called 'direct to video' but now they are called 'first run features'. These films then vanish from the theaters, like a rapist leaving the scene of a crime." - Mike Stoklasa of RedLetterMedia

Never saw Day if the Dead 08, DOTD is quite possibly my favorite of the original trilogy so I don't know. I enjoyed Land of the Dead for what it was.
Halloween was just proof that Rob Zombie doesn't understand the appeal of Micheal Myers as a villain at all. And would have been better off with another original project.
Ahh yes, Brain Dead, wonder how long till the inevitable remake of that one? Or if the now mighty Jackson will use his influence to keep that from happening. I'd much rather see that than a non-Bruce Campbell Evil Dead like Raimi wanted to do though.

Oh, god! Stop fucking reminding me about that movie. I hate you.
I saw this rather recently. I... kind of liked it. As remake it cannot touch the original, but just as a silly zombie movie (that should have NOT been called Day of the Dead) I had a lot of fun watching it.

The problem with Day 2008 was that it was Day of the Dead in name only. Everything about that flick was shit and it brought back memories of the equally shit Day of the Dead 2 from a few years back.
I usually don't care for shit movies, but when it's a shit movie that's a "remake" of an older flick, yet isn't really a "remake" they are just using the title to sell tickets/DVDs, that makes my piss boil.

Yeah, fuck oath. The whole point of a remake, at least how I would approach it, is to say something new about the original source. Dawn remake did that, Day remake not even close.
There was a Day of the Dead 2?

Yeah there was a Day of the Dead 2 released in 2005. Nobody who worked on the original was involved in it, but the fucking retarded part is because it was made by the Taurus Entertainment Company who own the rights to the original movie, it is, by definition, an official sequel.

What about the remakes of Dawn of the Dead, The Hills Have Eyes, David Cronenberg's The Fly, Cat People, House on Haunted Hill, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, or 1978's Invasion of the Body Snatchers?
