@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 11:25 AM)

Also I still have to figure out how to set up our e-mail accounts on the new host.

@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 08:19 AM)

As soon as I figure out how to restore it. Sorry, I know I said it'd be done by now, but I didn't expect to have to put up with this DNS crap and other issues that popped up.

@  Uncle Ben : (24 July 2015 - 07:56 AM)

So when's the black theme coming back??

@  Uncle Ben : (24 July 2015 - 07:56 AM)

"Should"

@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 07:27 AM)

That DNS took longer to propagate properly than I thought it would. *Now* we should be back for good, though.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 08:48 PM)

Or it might be because Bluehost *finally* got around to that server wipe (one week after we'd asked for it) and that wiped out our DNS settings. I'm not sure which and I don't really care. In any case, we've severed our last ties with Bluehost, so this will not happen again.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 08:08 PM)

Looks like Bluehost yanked our DNS since our hosting account expired. That's why the site went down a while ago. But as you can see, it's fixed now.

@  Misk : (23 July 2015 - 04:55 PM)

No, they do not.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 04:27 AM)

The goggles do nothing?

@  Misk : (22 July 2015 - 05:50 PM)

My eyes.

@  furrykef : (22 July 2015 - 12:24 PM)

Looks like forum uploads might have been broken since last night. That should be fixed now too.

@  furrykef : (22 July 2015 - 01:33 AM)

Heh, whoops! Server went down for a few mins when I borked the config. Looks like it's back up now.

@  Uncle Ben : (21 July 2015 - 09:09 PM)

It looked like a napkin

@  ILOVEVHS : (21 July 2015 - 09:04 PM)

Fan-fuckin-tastic.

@  furrykef : (21 July 2015 - 08:25 PM)

As for the beaver picture while the forum was down, I think Tim drew it. On a napkin.

@  furrykef : (21 July 2015 - 08:24 PM)

No kiddin' about that "Finally!", Shadow. I am *so mad* at Bluehost for never responding to our support ticket. I submitted it early Friday morning and they *still* haven't answered it!

@  Uncle Ben : (21 July 2015 - 06:37 PM)

Maybe he did that himself

@  Shadow : (21 July 2015 - 05:25 PM)

Say, who made the cute picture of Beaver Chief?

@  Shadow : (21 July 2015 - 05:24 PM)

Finally!

@  RedMenace : (21 July 2015 - 05:02 PM)

Woooo! The site's back up! Three cheers for Kef!

Alright well... The SatAM revival forum is locked... but a lot of good things were discussed in there... From relationships to death to... Matt the"Im making a new SATAM!" guy get mad at me whenever I told him off...

What I would like to see is... Your thoughts.. Now I know a lot has already been discussed on it in there etc but... Strain your views down... Post in here what you would like to have seen. Now.. A new SatAM show wont happen.. but.. Its fun to think of eh? So what would you have liked to see? Search through the archive boards even..find other interesting things other member said... Do you agree? Disagree?

Hmm, the only things I can think of are a couple of Freedom Fighters KIA and Robotnik winning from time to time. I'd like to see how the FF would deal with the very real possibility of a crippling defeat at the hands of Robotnik's forces.

Season 2's idea of overarching continuity and story elements combined with Season 1's overall better production values - that's a decent place to start I think. It would be a reboot: SatAM blew its load too quickly, so to speak, and things could have turned out far better than they did. Basically, roll out the show in its A-game right off the bat.

Hmmm, that's almost kinda tough to answer. I might like to see a bit more stuff from the game incorporated. And I'd probably want it to start off from the end of season 2. Say, if they finally got rid of Ixis after a while, bring in Metal Sonic. But I guess they did that with the movie...maybe borrow some stuff from the Archie comics? I guess it'd really take some creative thinking to keep everything interesting since the standards for a good commercial animation seem a bit higher now.

I'd have liked to have seen a victory against Ixis, possibly at the expense of reinstating Robotnik. To me, you can't have Sonic fighting anyone but Robotnik, that just doesn't go. It's not what made Sonic great, it's not the iconic struggle of old.

That said, I feel sorry for the FFs always fighting Robotnik and never getting closure - either by winning or being killed. So I think maybe Season 3 should have incorporated some kind of uneasy alliance with Robotnik, where they still fight, but some kind of 'cap' put on their fighting. If anyone here is familiar with Life on Mars you'll know what I mean by the dynamic between Hunt and Tyler, Robotnik being Hunt.

Or maybe I'm saying that because I was introduced to LoM at the weekend and am now a big fan biggrin.gif But as Hunt quite clearly rocks and is a total badboy, I can see that being the basis for an amazing Robotnik.

You know, technically, Metal Sonic is one of Robotnik's creations, so in a way, he'd still be fighting him.

I have ideas of where I would want the story to go. There would be some defeats or setbacks, but I would like to see both Ixis and Robotnic finally defeated. Also, I would like to see a storyline that addresses what happened to Sonic's parents. I'd go with Archie's idea that have at least one of them robotized. Another story idea from Archie I would use is Bunnie's partial robotization becoming permament and her relationship with Antione. Sonic and Sally would go though some challenges and hard times, but in the end they will be together, marry, and before king and queen.

I suppose, as an extension to my idea, that any open-ended continuation of the feud between Sonic and Robotnik might actually prove satisfying: Sonic doesn't seem to fit in anywhere other than as a fighter. He's not really settle-down and have 2.4 kids material. So even though the others might want to finish the fight and have a normal life, perhaps he'd be happy carrying on.

I might have to think about that and come up with some story that leads to Sonic having a lifelong battle with Robotnik...

You wouldn't like my idea because it would involve Sally making her last stand and sacrificing herself in order to ensure a victory in a critical mission, and by "sacrificng herself" I do not mean roboticized, I meant going out in a blaze of glory, killed off in the most brutal manner, taking laser shot after laser shot before finally going down, but not before leaving Robotnik in a really fucked up state and giving the command center a nice black carpet of spilled crude oil and battery acid from the SwatBots. It will be like Tony Montana's last stand.

...and no, she won't be brought back by some retarded Deus Ex Machina like at the end of the Endgame arc from Archie StH.

Part of my Fic actually covers a version of that possibility. Not necessarily killing off anyone, but something that's just as severe, like Knothole being destroyed, or the Freedom Fighters being forced to relocate to a place that they don't know so well, somewhere that might not be as secure as the Great Forest. Or maybe a better place, somewhere where they can launch a real offensive from instead of relying on guerilla tactics. Something that would basically mean a whole new ballgame for the Freedom Fighters.

As for how it's carried out, maybe Naugus decides to stop wasting his time looking for their base and just burns the whole forest down instead. Maybe attack on multiple fronts to split up the Freedom Fighters. Sonic can't be everywhere at once. Speaking of which, they don't know Naugus is in charge yet. Can anyone say, surprise attack?

How demoralizing would that be? Not only find out that the war they thought was over isn't, but that a more dangerous villain is in charge now and have their home for a decade destroyed in the process. In the words of Seanbaby, 'it's the unholy trinity'. That would strike an emotional chord in all of them.
A Winner Is You!!!

I think I have something that hasn't been mentioned. When people talk about a SatAM revival, most people head strait to season three when there are so many unanswered questions about the ten years between the coup and the start of season one. How did the kids survive growing up in the forest? When did Rosie get captured. How did they learn all their skills (sally's knowledge, Rotors mechanical skills, Bunnie's martial arts, etc.) There had to be a critical moment where they all said "lets stop hiding and head into the city." If you didn't do a series about their years as up and coming freedom fighters, it would be a good movie.

If SatAM were revived and continued into a new season (without magic as i've stated before,) I'd personally like to see more of what mobius is like outside of their forest. We know theirs a canyon, jungle, swamp, ocean, fields, and a vast unknown region. Surely there is more to the planet beyond the great unknown. What if they were to encounter a race of badass desert reptiles that robotnik doesn't mess with? What if they were the ones keeping Robotnik busy during the ten years after the coup, pulling resources away from searching the forest? Imagine the tense relationship that could occur between these desert creatures and the mobians ("yeah, you guys were hiding in the forest while we were on the battlefield). This is just a typical fanfic example, but I would appreciate any future attempts to revive SatAM to flesh out the setting a lot more and turn Mobius into a living, breathing place.

I think Drazen had written a pretty good fanfic that tells a story of how the FFs began to fight Robotnik.

Today, I was thinking on the same way SoulTenor was, today. When did they finally learn to attack Robotnik? How did the early years begin?

It's easy to chart the future, SoulTenor. Ben as well as Sonic Team wanted it to follow the games. We all don't forget that Tails was going to take a more prominent role and we'd know more about Robotnik. Like where he came from. I'm sure we would have visited more places on Mobius post Doomsday. I really hope it's not a zoned-theme places like the games. I did wonder why there was even a place called the Forbidden Zone? Even more forbidden post-coup. ;)

It's not hard to create a story if you think about it. There are a million or more possiblities of what happened before the pilot episode but we can limit it to a hundred explanations with about several only truly being plausible. Just look at what we have already. Nicole and technology all over the place like in Iron Lock. Other FF groups and rogue groups. Rosie. Mystical treasures and magical beings. I can think of several possible ways the FF's could have learned stuff.

It's easy to imagine a story if you don't make it overly complex. This show isn't overly complex but the animation and good characterization more than make up for it at its time and today.

Remember, just not too much of something. Too much wizardry like Lazaar would remind me of Harry Potter. Too much robotisization would remind me of Transformers. This show strikes the right balance for what it is. Especially being designed after a quick hedgehog.

Yes, live from a bored fanboy's brain, it's time for another installment of Prof V's Very Long, Very Boring Hypothetical Mumbo-Jumbo! laugh.gif

I would actually prefer my SatAM revival to be a reboot rather than the mysterious Season 3. It's just been too many years for a proper continuation to be viable. It would likely alienate viewers and Sonic fans who didn't grow up with the show. Besides there were enough continuity mess-ups in the shift from Season 1 to Season 2 - and there was only a one year gap between them! Best to start afresh with a consistant timeline rather than dig more plotholes. wink.gif

By and large, I'd like the show to stay similar to the original - same characters, same tone, same mix of magic and technology - but tweaked, refined and expanded to ensure maximum awesomeness. Here's what I'd like to see altered in terms of the core cast:

~ More screentime for Tails. I very much enjoyed SatAM's take on Tails, despite his limited appearances. I would like to see him more involved in missions as the group's hero-in-training and Sonic's sidekick (Occasionally sneaking along on the more dangerous missions like all good kids in action stories wink.gif ), gradually evolving into the tech-savvy, bottom-kicking bundle o' fluff we know and love. Also play up his relationships with Sonic and Sally to "awww" the audience to death. tongue.gif
~ Give Bunnie more to do. I thought Bunnie was a very fun character with a great gimmick, but it seemed she was given less and less to do as the show went on. What exactly did she do in Season 2, other than get Naugusnapped and sit on an egg? tongue.gif Give her super-strong robo-limbs an origin story, play up her mad king-fu skillz and give her more oppertunities to use them.
~ Keep Antoine as the token comic relief, but tone down his cowardice and play up his arrogance and pride. Posh people are always funny in my book. biggrin.gif I'd also like him to actually do stuff on missions. Sonic's the super-speedy hero, Tails is the trainee and air support, Sally's the tactician, Bunnie's the muscle, Rotor's the mechanic, Dulcy's the transport - what's Toni's role? I think he'd make a good spy myself, given his knack for running away and hiding. wink.gif
~ Give Rotor a bit more prominence on missions ala Season 1 and tweak his character design to please us finicky fans biggrin.gif (S1 body with S2 outfit maybe?)
~ Give Robotnik and Snively an established backstory. Whether they're Overlanders ala Archie, time-travellers ala Season 3 or humans from a parallel universe ala my stupid mind, it would be interesting to know why they are the only humans we ever see.
~ Keep Dulcy around, but tone down her childishness a little and perhaps relegate her to a semi-regular supporting cast member or guest star. Also give her an actual introduction to the audience, rather than saying "Hi, there's a dragon here now! Have fun!"
~ Gradually introduce more game characters into the mix ala Archie, either as fellow Freedom Fighters, occasional supporting characaters or one-shot guest stars. Amy, Knuckles and Metal Sonic could be interesting new regulars. Knux and Metal would likely be the same as their normal game selves, while Amy could be an additional trainee Freedom Fighter and cutesy foil for Tails. Groups like the Chaotix and the Babylon Rogues could be introduced as other Freedom Fighter groups. As for villains, the likes of Rouge and Nack could be bounty hunters hired by Robotnik to take out Sonic or steal precious artefacts, while Shadow could be an attempt by Robotnik to create a Sonic clone, who eventually turn on his master. And that's not counting all the monsters like Chaos and Dark Gaia that Naugus could play with.

As for the actual storylines, here's what I'd like to see:
~ Season arcs. This was one of my favourite points about Season 2 and I think there's plenty of material in the Sonicverse for more of them. You could have a S3&K arc, with the traditional 'find the Emeralds for Eggman!' story and a formal introduction for Knuckles; a CD arc involving Metal Sonic and the Time Stones; an SA2 arc introducing Shadow; an arc reintroducing Uncle Chuck and his transition from slave to spy; or how about an arc with Robotnik and Naugus at war with each other and the Freedom Fighters caught smack-bang in the middle?
~ Character arcs, like the ol' Sonsal romance, Tails and Amy's training, Bunnie and Uncle Chuck coping with their robotic sides and Snively's glorious backstabbing antics.
~ Origins stories and/or flashbacks, namely for how Sonic met Tails and Dulcy, how Bunnie got roboticized and where Robotnik and Snively actually came from. A Sonic CD story arc could allow for a time-travel story about Robotnik's rise to power (and a nice call-back to Blast to the Past).
~ A few more references to the games, as shout-outs for fans and purists. I like the idea of Sonic and co exploring more of Mobius outside of the Great Forest and Robotropolis, so you could have that to have them visit famous game locations like Green Hill and Station Square (Two of the few places still untouched by Robotnik's rule?), the Floating Island (Not the one from Season 2 tongue.gif ) and other Robotnik hubs like Metropolis and Scrap Brain. You could also use the various classic badniks as specialist robots, designed by Robotnik for specific terrains (Burrowbots for mines, Choppers for watery ruins etc), though the SWATbots would still be the driving force of Buttnik's army.
~ Closure. Like the original SatAM, I'd like the revival to go out with a bang; an epic story arc which sees Sonic and co face Buttnik's greatest doomsday device, each Freedom Fighter get their crowning moment of awesome, and Sonic and Robotnik square off in an ultimate showdown of ultimate destiny. Buttnik goes boom, the empire falls, the slaves are freed, the roboticised saved, the lovers make out, Sonic and Tails grab a chilli dog and everyone finally lives happily ever after. THE END!

Aaaaand I'm spent. icon_e_smile.gif

Social Acceptance.

Is it possible to invert the show. I don't think this question deserves a topic because it's pretty wild.

Could you imagine a situation where the entire universe had a make over in personality? Sonic was mature and college educated. Sally was a cool party animal(pun?). Rotor would only like to drive large Jeeps and Antoine would actually be in command of the FF's?

You'd think it's a dream. So and idea is to start from a fantasy sequence and go forward. Are any backwards ideas possible?

As you can tell the changes are happening at a slow rate. I don't know what this proves, just another way of thinking about it.

If I was to begin satAM again I would stay true to the story, and to it's characters, and continue from where it left off. I see no reason to start vamping up the maturity of it and begin offing main characters, turning it into something it never was. You can evolve the characters, certainly, but once you start giving them super powers or turning Sonic into Jack Bauer, you've kinda missed the whole point of continuing the show

Rebooting the satAM idea, however, is a different thing altogether. That's where I would really love to dig in and do what the Battlestar Galactica reboot creators did and make the show matter to a new generation of people that have never seen it before. Start off with exactly the kind of tone you need for it; play with themes you could never do with the original concept; say something new about the characters and their war with Robotnik.
