Eh, I don't watch tv at all.
There are always books.
1: Books take too long. I can fit a lot more car chases, gunfights, and explosions into the same amount of time I'd have to sink into reading about one of them in a book.
2: It's rare that I want to read a book a second time. Thus, they're only worth the money if they're part of an expanded universe and can be used for reference for other books. I'd rather invest the money in a DVD or videogame that I'll likely break out now and then, when there's nothing good on, or if the weather kills the TV reception.
3: The nearest book store is a 6 hour round trip from here, Walmart has a crappy selection, and the library hasn't updated their stock since the 70's.
What the hell are torrents?
Torrenting is a download method that downloads the file(s) in chunks, almost always from multiple sources, many of which are themselves downloading parts of the files that they don't yet have. This means that you can achieve good overall download speeds by receiving data from many slow connections instead of one fast connection that is susceptible to overloading. It also makes it easy to resume an incomplete download, and any corrupt chunks can simply be retrieved a second time.
Of course if you've got a dialup connection it won't be any faster than usual (but possibly more reliable). In fact it could be slower, since you may also be uploading parts of the file to someone else unless you've disabled this.
Yeah... I have a very slow dialup connection.
Put it around 10kbs.
That pretty much takes up all available bandwidth on a dialup connection though
Holy crap... My usual upload/download speed is 1kbs and below...
