Jutsu means "Art/Means." So he is asking if he can learn your "art of X."
In Eot there is an ancient art called Tsumejutsu. Cool points to the person who can figure out what that means.

Well, as a student of Japanese, I recognize "tsume" as "claw", so it seems pretty obvious to me.
*Throws confetti* ![]()
Much like the use of the Makiwara in Shorin-ryu and Goju-ryu, tsumejutsu focuses on conditioning ones natural borne claws for martial purpose. Most civilized Mobians don't use them, and in fact keep their claws nipped to the nib and tucked tight under glove. Yet rebellious teens and fighters love to toss up a taloned-finger at this taboo. It's a common fad to "cut the fingers" and show off your growing claws come adolescence if you are male (especially if you originate from a predatory species). Conditioning the claws makes them able to puncture through steel and even rip through plate-metal. The Wolfpack use sharp silicates that they palm-strike and alchmeical-concotions to toughen then harden the claws to be used in combat with armoured individuals. The whole art was designed to capitalize on Mobian physiology and use it against well armoured opponents even when unarmed. The Overlanders feared the claws of the Mobian all through out the Great War, tough their technology was a 20th century Earth-analog while Mobians were just capitalizing on steam power and were still very much a High-Fantasy style society.
I'm looking to design a "soft-style" art based on the potential-prehensibility of certain Mobians and their tails (like a certain Kitsune). I'm not sure what to name it yet, however. This style will focus on Aikido-esque circular movements and involve a lot of hooking movements chokes, locks, throws, and eventually even breaks.
Getting this deep in the world building helps me quickly visualize how a scene might go, and write said scene crisply, creatively, quickly, and believably.

So...would my fanfic persona use psiojutsu, or would psionics based martial arts be called something else? Hell, Alec would use psionics enhanced CQC since he's US Army Special Forces...
*goes back to listening to the epic sounding Pokémon XY Champion theme while surfing the net*
(Seriously...this theme would work well as a boss theme for a traditional sword'n'spell RPG!)

Comparatively speaking, his fighting style sounds an awful lot like the Psycho Soldiers Team from King of Fighters. Though they use regular Martial Arts Combined with a few psychic designed moves, rather than a martial arts based around those moves.

Hm, well meta-physical arts in both my orginal series and fanfictions are given latinate/hellinic names. A person who use magic martially is called a Bellagramanon.
Note that is quick and lazy to just make your character a whatevermancer. But that is bad latin. For example necromancy actually means divining through the dead, not manipulating the dead, just like Feung Shui has a latinate counterpart in Geomancy (diving through geometry, like crazy Pathagoras use to do). I typically have to correct people when they apply two terms to Bible that we Millenials butcher. The Apocalypse (which is a postive term meaning a unvieling, as in the unvieling of truth, in the orginal Koine) and necromancy which is a form of scrying through the spirits of dead, not bringing back corpses to eat the living (though the concept is as old as The Epic Gilgamesh). Essentially what you need to do is avoid the misnomer, and all misnomer possible, if you want to both be original and professional. As a writter you must study the etymology of words and their meanings and gain a good grasp of suffixes, root words, and prefixes if you wish to create beliveable terminology for concepts. Knowing parts of speech will improve your ability to also come up with new concepts by mixing and matching word-parts to come up with new ideas [ie; (Pyro (fire)+ (psy (mind) + ate (nounn ending) = pyropsycate (a person who uses his mind to manipulate fire)]. For example Sonic in EoT is a Sederian (Seder being the Rabbinic Hebrew word for control) and "ian" is obviously a Latinate suffix signifying the word is a noun.
