That DNS took longer to propagate properly than I thought it would. *Now* we should be back for good, though.

Or it might be because Bluehost *finally* got around to that server wipe (one week after we'd asked for it) and that wiped out our DNS settings. I'm not sure which and I don't really care. In any case, we've severed our last ties with Bluehost, so this will not happen again.

Looks like Bluehost yanked our DNS since our hosting account expired. That's why the site went down a while ago. But as you can see, it's fixed now.

How so? It may be (very) old, but that doesn't stop it from being an awesome game console with awesome title (but not always awesome *cough E.T. cough*).

 

I can't wait to see how the game will look like once finished! Also, the game is being made by the same creator as Princess Rescue (an unofficial port of Super Mario Bros for the Atari 2600)

The true beggening of video gaming as we know it today! A classic of all classic. Despite the old graphic, the Atari 2600 has his charm, and his own style of nostalgia like no other!

I have no love at all for the Atari 2600. The games aren't entertaining and it's an utter bitch to program (which is why the games aren't entertaining). Believe me, if you guys had the slightest idea how that thing is actually programmed, you would wonder how people managed to make anything remotely interesting at all. "Pitfall!" may look like a primitive game today, which it is from a design standpoint, but it was a technological marvel. And it's still not any fun to play.

 

There were plenty of great games from the late 70s and early 80s -- Pac-Man, Berzerk, Asteroids, Donkey Kong -- but that greatness wasn't anywhere to be found in the Atari 2600, even in its ports of these games.

 

If I wanted to make an authentic uber-retro game, I would go with the NES or SNES. They are a walk in the park to program compared to the 2600, and it's far easier to come up with an interesting game for them because you don't have to spend ages trying to get the most basic of things up on the screen.

Hey, the Atari 2600 was cool! The Sega Saturn was a nightmare to program too, so that's mean the Saturn is a awfull console as well? What about the PS3, with the Cell processor? Is the PS3 one of the worst console of all time, simply because it was hard to program? Or what about the Atari Jaguar?.....okay, maybe this one is not a good exemple. But what about the other?

 

Since i'm not a programmer, i'm not in a position to worry about it. I'm a gamer, and a consummer. I buy game to have fun with them. I can name you many great game for the Atari 2600: Space Invader, Asteroids, Berzerk (yes, this game was fun and it was a good port from the arcade), Battlezone, River Raid, Pitfall 1 and 2 (yes, they were good as well), Ms. Pac-Man, Pac-Man Jr, Demon Attack, Missile Command, Enduro, Star Wars Empire Strike Back (yes, a good game based of a movie), Joust, Dig Dug, Mario Bros and so much more. I don't want you to say how the Atari 2600 can't be fun. It's not because you have no tolerance about old graphic that's mean it's crap.

 

Beside, i didn't even talk about the modern homebrew scene for that console. More great game are being made to this day, like: Pac-Man (a good port this time), Donkey Kong VCS (also a good port), Princess Rescue, Blinky Goes Up and more.

Completely invalid comparison. It doesn't take weeks just to figure out how to draw something on the screen on the Sega Saturn.
 

Since i'm not a programmer, i'm not in a position to worry about it. I'm a gamer, and a consummer.

As I said, the difficulty of programming the Atari 2600 had a direct impact on the sorts of games that could be programmed on it. Namely, games that are, in my opinion, no fun at all to play.
